It appears that Russia is gearing up for a really big move. The Ukrainians believe that plans are being made for a ground operation to conquer Kyiv, and the constant wave of airstrikes that we are witnessing right now could be a prelude to such a ground operation. If Vladimir Putin actually pulls the trigger, it is very likely that our European allies would feel compelled to intervene. If our European allies do intervene, Russian forces could start hitting them directly. At that point, the United States would be committed to a shooting war with Russia whether we like it or not.
Many in the western world are largely ignoring the most recent developments in Ukraine, but they are of the utmost importance.
In the middle of last week, it was being reported that “Moscow is planning conventional ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv’s city center and other key urban targets”…
Russia is preparing a military escalation in Ukraine following a complete breakdown of diplomatic channels, according to a media report on Wednesday.
With peace negotiations reaching an absolute dead end, Moscow is planning conventional ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv’s city center and other key urban targets, Bloomberg reported, citing three people close to the Kremlin.
Of course that is precisely what occurred.
Over the past several days, it has been one wave of strikes after another.
In fact, we are being told that there have been over 20 air raid alerts in Kyiv just since Thursday night…
Kyiv has survived more than 20 air raid alerts since Thursday night. Some were an hour long, while others lasted for up to 10 minutes.
Indeed, every alert, as Russia continues its persistent destruction of millions of books, food warehouses and liquor factories, also means everything has to stop until we hear the words: “Air raid alert is over.” Dozens of trains are delayed, and businesses shut down and wait, losing customers and money.
But “survivors must still go to work,” as we like to joke bitterly. People are still expected to commute, even though Kyiv’s subway has stopped running between the left and right banks of the River Dnipro. Sleep-deprived civilians need to walk for hours, squeeze themselves into buses, or get stuck in traffic on bridges, just to get to work and back home. Transport chaos overground means even more danger for people stuck in large groups all around the city.
This is the most intense multi-day campaign of airstrikes on Kyiv in years.
One of the targets that the Russians hit was a storage facility for Ukraine’s long-range cruise missiles.
That caused a series of secondary explosions that sent “fireballs flying off for hundreds of meters”…
The Russian military has carried out a wave of strikes on military-related targets in Kiev and its suburbs, including a facility storing components for Ukraine’s long-range Flamingo cruise missiles, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.
The statement came after a series of powerful secondary explosions tore through a warehouse complex near Kiev on Friday night, with videos circulating on social media showing fireballs flying off for hundreds of meters.
The next morning, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strikes, saying the attack, which involved missiles and drones, hit the Fim Service transport and logistics center in the Kiev suburb of Chaiky. The facility was used for storing Flamingo missiles, it added.
In addition, the Russians have been hitting retail infrastructure as well.
One Ukrainian official is admitting that approximately 90 percent of all food distribution infrastructure in the area has been destroyed…
Ukraine Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi told reporters that, “roughly speaking,” about 90% of the food-logistics infrastructure used by major retail chains (large distribution centers serving networks such as Fora, Silpo, NOVUS, and Varus) has been destroyed. That said, Vysotskyi insists this won’t result in famine – as chains are switching to more expensive direct-from-producer “on wheels” deliveries. Yet, stores in Kiev are reporting empty shelves for produce, dairy, and staples.
If the Russians wanted large numbers of civilians to flee, this would make a lot of sense.
And in recent days we have seen videos on social media which show large lines of vehicles headed out of Kyiv.
If there are a lot less civilians in the city, that would make it easier to potentially conquer.
And the Ukrainians are telling us that they have verified intelligence that indicates that “Russia is planning new ground offensives against Kyiv and Chernihiv”…
Ukraine has intelligence that Russia is planning new ground offensives against Kyiv and Chernihiv — while Moscow ramps up drone strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office, told reporters that Russian military chiefs have been tasked by the Kremlin’s political leaders with planning and preparing for attacks on the two cities, according to intelligence received and verified by Ukraine.
It does not appear that such a ground operation is imminent.
But if it is going to happen, it is going to happen before winter arrives.
So the clock is ticking.
The Daily Star is reporting that Vladimir Putin is getting ready to deliver a “hammer blow” to Ukraine consisting of 300,000 troops…
Russia President Vladimir Putin is reportedly plotting a terrifying final gambit to crush Ukraine as the tyrant ramps up threats towards the UK.
As tensions between Moscow and Europe reach boiling point, Putin is reportedly preparing to unleash a 300,000-troop “hammer blow” and crank up sabotage attacks on Nato, while issuing direct military threats aimed at Britain. The escalation comes after a diplomatic clash over British weapons technology being used inside Ukraine.
It would likely take a force of at least that size to conquer Kyiv.
Many young Russian men have been seen leaving the country in recent weeks due to fears that they will be conscripted.
I can’t blame them.
I wouldn’t want to be conscripted either.
Apparently Putin is considering other drastic measures as well.
As I discussed on my Substack on Friday, there is growing concern that Putin may eventually use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine…
In the absence of viable diplomacy, and as the conflict grinds into its fifth year with staggering casualties, the compounding cycle of mutual air and maritime strikes has heightened systemic risk. Several Russian officials now believe Putin may eventually resort to tactical nuclear weapons to prevent a strategic defeat, Bloomberg reported, breaking a global wartime taboo that has stood since 1945.
Needless to say, that would change everything.
Russian officials have also been suggesting that the UK could get attacked directly if it doesn’t stop providing long-range drones and long-range missiles to the Ukrainians.
The moment that Russia strikes the UK, we will be officially at war with Russia.
Many Americans do not realize this.
An attack on one NATO country is an attack on all.
Already, it appears that the Russians have been conducting “gray zone” operations against some of our European allies…
Russia has turned up the heat on Kyiv’s allies in Europe, with a string of so-called gray zone activities aimed at sowing fear, as it struggles to advance on the ground in Ukraine and faces increasingly damaging Ukrainian drone and missile attacks at home.
European authorities have linked Russia to a spate of drone incursions, acts of sabotage, cyberattacks and other hostile actions across the continent over recent months.
Both sides just keep pushing the envelope.
Just a single wrong move could set off a chain of events that nobody will be able to control.
Once we are officially at war with Russia, it is probably just a matter of time before someone uses nukes.
Speaking of that, the Russians are now testing a brand new nuclear-powered submarine that was specifically designed to be able to carry Poseidon underwater drones…
Russia’s highly secretive Khabarovsk nuclear-powered submarine has begun its first factory sea trials in the White Sea, marking the first time Moscow’s purpose-built carrier for the Poseidon strategic underwater weapon has entered the at-sea testing phase, according to Army Recognition on August 18.
Originally, Belgorod subs were converted to be able to carry Poseidon drones, but this new submarine was configured from the start to hold up to six Poseidons…
Unlike the much larger BS-329 Belgorod, which was converted from an unfinished Soviet-era Project 949A Oscar II hull, Khabarovsk was designed from the outset around carrying Poseidon.
According to Army Recognition, the submarine is configured to carry six 2M39 Poseidon nuclear-powered autonomous underwater vehicles, compared with four commonly attributed to Belgorod in its current configuration.
That makes Khabarovsk less of a traditional attack submarine and more of a highly specialized strategic weapons carrier.
So why is this important?
Poseidon drones are unlike any weapons that we have ever seen in the entire history of humanity.
They could be lurking off our coastlines right now and we wouldn’t even know it.
And as I detailed in my latest book, the simultaneous detonation of dozens of these drones could suddenly wipe out all of our major cities on both coasts…
Someday, dozens of huge underwater drones armed with nuclear warheads that have been parked just off the east coast and just off the west coast could suddenly detonate simultaneously. Almost instantly, colossal “radioactive tsunamis” would start pouring over our most important coastal cities. New York, Washington, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle would all be wiped out in a matter of moments.
When the Russians initially began developing their Poseidon “doomsday weapon” many years ago, western leaders didn’t take the threat very seriously.
But now the Russians are actually constructing Poseidons, and the North Koreans recently tested their own version.
Once someone chooses to actually use such a weapon, our world will never be the same again.
The Russians have the quietest submarines in the world.
That makes them exceedingly difficult to detect.
In addition to Poseidon drones, the Russians pose a grave threat to us in many other ways as well.
Submarine-launched missiles from Russian subs that are parked right off our shores could hit any target in the continental United States in just minutes.
We wouldn’t even be able to get the president out of bed before the missiles started hitting.
Let us hope that cooler heads prevail so that we can avoid such a scenario for as long as possible.
