USA #1? 40 Embarrassing Things That America Is The Best In The World At

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

Is the USA still #1?  Well, there are many things that America is still the best in the world at, but unfortunately a lot of those categories are nothing to be proud of.  Once upon a time the United States was the greatest nation on earth, but now we are a nation that is in a horrific state of decline.  Just consider a few of the embarrassing things that America leads the world in: obesity, crime, divorce, teen pregnancy, child abuse deaths and government debt.  The statistics that you are about to read below are incredibly disturbing.  Most people that write these kinds of articles about the decline of America hate this country.  But that is not the case with me.  I was born and raised in America and I love this nation deeply.  It is time to realize that we will never be able to start fixing our problems until we take a really good look in the mirror and realize just how far we have fallen.  America is not the country that it once was.  America is a complete and total mess and just “tweaking” a few things here and there is not going to return this nation to its former glory.  We have forgotten the things that once made us great, and if we do not return to them we will continue to fall apart as a nation.

With that being said, the following are 40 embarrassing things that America is the best in the world at….

#1 America has the highest incarceration rate and the largest total prison population in the entire world by a good margin.

#2 There are more car thefts in the United States than anywhere else in the world by far.

#3 Of all the major industrialized nations, America is the most obese.  Mexico is #2.

#4 The average American drinks more than 600 sodas a year – the most in the world.

#5 U.S. corporations sell more fast food and more soda than anyone else in the world by a wide margin.

#6 Nobody watches more television per week (28 hours) than Americans do.  Although to be honest, people living in the UK are tied with us.

#7 The United States leads the world in credit card fraud.

#8 The United States has the highest percentage of one person households on the entire planet.

#9 The United States has the highest divorce rate in the world by a good margin.

#10 The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the world by far.

#11 There are more school shootings in America than anywhere else in the world.

#12 The United States has the highest child abuse death rate in the world.

#13 There are more “deaths by reptile” in America than anywhere else in the world.

#14 The United States has the most lawyers per capita in the entire world.

#15 The United States produces more pornography than any other nation in the world.

#16 Americans take more prescription drugs than anyone else in the world.

#17 More is spent on prescription drug advertising in America than anywhere else in the world.

#18 The percentage of women taking antidepressants in America is higher than in any other country in the world.

#19 More people have been diagnosed with mental disorders in America than anywhere else on earth.

#20 The United States has the highest rate of illegal drug use on the entire globe.

#21 There is more credit card debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#22 There is more mortgage debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#23 There is more student loan debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#24 The United States spends more money on government schools than any other nation on earth does.

#25 U.S. citizens spend more time in school than anyone else in the world.  So why are so many of us dumb as a rock?

#26 Nobody in the world gets more plastic surgery done than Americans do.

#27 The United States leads the world in eating disorder deaths.

#28 According to, the United States has the most total reported crimes in the world by far.

#29 Nobody has more airport security thugs groping women and children than America does.

#30 The United States spends much more on health care as a percentage of GDP than any other nation on the face of the earth.

#31 The United States has the most complicated tax system on the entire planet.

#32 The United States has the most laws on the entire planet.

#33 The United States spends more on the military than the next 12 nations combined, and yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.

#34 The United States has the most foreign military bases in the world by far.

#35 The United States exports more arms to other countries than anyone else in the world.

#36 Americans spend more time sitting in traffic than anyone else in the world.

#37 Americans spend more money on elections than anyone else does in the world by a very wide margin.

#38 Every single year, the United States has the largest trade deficit in the world by far.

#39 The U.S. government wastes more money than any other government on earth does.

#40 The United States has accumulated the biggest mountain of government debt in the history of the world.

So is the USA #1?

Unfortunately, the answer way too often is yes.

The goal of this list of embarrassing things is not to trash America.

Rather, the goal is to wake Americans up and to get them to realize what has happened to us.

We should be deeply humbled and embarrassed as a nation.  We were once the best in the world and the envy of the entire globe, but now the whole world is laughing at us.

America is supposed to be a beacon of liberty, freedom and prosperity for the entire planet.

Instead, we are rapidly turning into a horror show.

Wake up America.  The condition of our country is absolutely shameful, and every single day it gets even worse.

Please share this list with as many people as you can.  The American people need a massive wake up call, and it is up to those of us that are awake to share the truth while we still can.

I believe that we give more to charity than other people. We are not all bad and useless. The good people need to step up to the plate and not be the silent majority any longer Stand up and be heard.

    • Gary2

We are not all bad and useless–only the conservatives are bad and usless.

The silent majority will be standing up this Nov as the conservatives crash and burn. We will be taking back our country from the Grand Old Plutocrated (GOP) whose policies have destroyed the middle class and impoverised the poor.

    • Gary2

Really-who on the right has a prayer of beating Obama.

Aytollah Santorm–dude lives in the 16th century

Mittens- Changes positions faster than a porn star

Newt-Nothing else to say. I am laughing though.

    • Jeremy

I have been waiting the 28 years of my life for the “silent majority” to stand up and throw out this filth, waiting while I was mocked IN THIS COUNTRY for my beliefs in God. I waited for these people to show Christian charity to the poor black kids in my community, and stand up for the weak when they would be beaten for their differences. God is wrathful, and He is judging this nation for its internal rot, and its poor example in popular culture, etc. I love this country, and it make me weep, reading our great leaders of the past (Washington, Lincoln, Eisenhower), and compare them to the weak and doddering leaders of today. I am an optimistic person, but this is awful.

  • whens dinner?

Well, those are 40 stats that FAIL miserably in comparison to what Americans HAVE done!

  • America – Land of the free?, home of the brave?!!!

    • J2201987

More like “Land of the thieves, home of the slaves”.

      • S

        True story!

  • r.bitting

Truth has stumbled in the street and as a result, and Lady Liberty has become a spiritual crack addict.

  • William

Well, there is little hope for the righting of the ship of state in America. Here we are over 10 years past the events of 911, which is a HUGE LIE, and there has been NO PUNISHMENT of the evil that was behind the attacks on 11 Sept 2001. As for the economy, read David Stockman’s article in a recent edition of USA TODAY. If you do not know who Stockman is, you are already LOST!

  • Chris S

The average American will read this, disregard it, and turn their TV back on, watching a porno while drinking a Coke, eating Mcdonalds and talking to them self about how “American Exceptionalism” gives them the right to Bomb and invade anybody they want.

    • TK

    • Imam

Americans used to be exceptional but we literally got fat, dumb, and happy.

BTW, I once read that Australia had overtaken USA as the fattest nation. Good to hear we are back on top.

  • Chris

We spend more in time and money on our public schools yet we are ranked something like 25th in education? And people wonder why I advocate home schooling….

    41. The Asylum States of Amerika is the only known “democracy” where its presidential “Ceasar” has decreed that he has the unilateral power to lock away anyone forever without charge, trial or legal recourse of any kind and the power to kill anyone anywhere on planet earth without charge, trial, or legal recourse/review of any kind, much less having any Constitutional justification.

All anyone with two brain cells to rub together has to do is look at all the programs and policies being put into effect and they all fall into one of the three aforementioned categories. No society that worships war, evil, and flat out immorality like the asylum states of amerika does can possibly survive, much less thrive long term.

These stats should make any decent sensible person cringe, reflect on the current state of affairs and want to do something about it. Too bad the masses have not awakened from their snooki-slumber or else they might have been able to stave off the destruction that is sure to follow. People get the society that they deserve and surely this warmongering, liberty and freedom crushing, narcissistic society is getting exactly what it has asked for.

    • Gary2

“All anyone with two brain cells to rub together”…

you have just excluded all the conservatives!

  • old fart

    Good article, Michael.

This is why, as a Christian, I gag whenever I hear some pol or TV preacher-type blabber about how America is a “Christian Nation.”

It is not! In fact, America is very much a Satanic nation, with Satanic values (and remember, according to the Satanic Bible the #1 Satanic value is “Do what thou wilt”). Including–perhaps I should say especially–in the vast majority of so-called “Bible Believin'” churches.

God’s judgement will surely be upon us very soon.

    • Impaler Lord

That it is indeed a Satanic nation, because the hostile alien elites who really run this nation are not Christians, Americans or whites. They want the white population dead, and they are in a word, worshippers of Satan, death and destruction. Unfortunately, for us and the world to overthrow them, a LOT of death and destrcution will unfortunately stain the soil of all the nations of the world, but the worst of it will be on American soil.

    • TK

      You got that right! +100

  • Joeseph

Once GOD was taken out of school and the commie libs got into power, the US went straight to he!! and is continuing on its path. Makes me sick to my stomach.

God is the only way folks, our only path back to greatness!

  • mondobeyondo

Keep waving that flag and that foam finger, because…. WE’RE NUMBER ONE!!
    For all the wrong reasons.

Fat, dumb and happy. Not to mention broke, unhealthy, violent, sex-crazed, immoral, wasteful, etc. And we love our wars. Oh, how we love our wars. There are the obvious recent military wars, but we’ve also had the War on Drugs, War on Poverty, War on Terror, War on Hunger, and so forth. And we haven’t decisively won a single one of them.

It’s not all gloom and doom though. The U.S. still rules at the Olympic Games… I guess. We may not do well in track and field or gymnastics or even basketball anymore (the Lithuanians can play a mean game of basketball), but nobody can compete with Michael Phelps in the swimming pool. So you see? It isn’t all bad. Only about 93% bad.

I love this country. No, seriously, I do. But if we don’t shape up soon and straighten our situation out NOW, we’ll quickly leave the world scene as a major player. Exit, stage right.

    U-S-A!! U-S-A!! U-S-A!! Yaaaaayyy!

    • mondobeyondo

“Vini, vidi, collapsi”, as they would say in Rome back in the day.

  • Will

With all due respect #25 is wrong. The Chinese have way more seat hrs in school than we do and a lot less holidays.

  • Chris

I wouldn’t say the rest of the world is laughing at you, it’s not as if the UK is in much better shape or some other places. Rather people are worried at what you are becoming. It does look like some sort of technological fascist state is taking over rapidly and plans on making the rest of the world in its image. In WW11 you guys helped defeat fascism in Europe, if the entire globe becomes a fascist state where are the rescuers going to come from?

  • Imaplaneiac

Old Fart is spot-on! At age 62, I have witnessed an incalcuable / immeasureable decline in the morals, values and mores of Americans! The depravity and evil are dispicable and distressing to behold! Yet to many this is ” freedom “!? There are those who even proclaim: ” This Is My Body “! Hmm, WHERE have we read this precise phrase?! Yes, we ARE given ” free will ” by Almighty God – but so were those the evildoers who were obliterated from the face of the Earth by Divine Justice; by the Great Flood and in Sodom and Gormorrah. The Super-Natural disasters which now occur REGULARLY throughout our formerly Christian nation are ONLY the beginning of God’s affictions against this nation!

Who Americans elect as their President and Congressmen vividly illustrate that America is DEFINITELY in a post-Christian era! At the very least, these people are guilty … of Culpable Ignorance!

Oh, Michael, is America not also No.1 in spreading various forms of filthy, indecent, corrupt ” entertainment ” produced here throughtout the World; contaminating the cultures and societies of other countries, as well!?

  • Imaplaneiac

Oops, change ” dispicable ” to ” despicable ” in my above comments. Sorry – I should have checked … before submitting my comments.

  • J2201987

#41 The United States has become the most technologically, scientifically sound police state than any dictator, tyrant, or emperor has ever seen or could ever see in the history of mankind.

Beginning of the end – 1913, The inception of the Federal Reserve
Middle of the end – 1940-1970, WW2, removing gold/silver standards, programming the “entitlement” generation
End of the end – 2008-…., Housing/Banking/Industry collapse, dollar collapse, permanent servitude….

  • A Dodgy Bloke

I have a theory we here have it pretty sweet compared too much of the world. Being poor in American you would be Middle Class in much of the Third world. We have food, warm homes, non-stop distractions, most people can get in thier car and drive anywhere. But here is disquiet a disturbance in the force, a sense something is not quite right. Some people have lived a life of bad decisions supported by the social safety net they see the system is getting harder to deal with.
I think it’s too late for solutions too much money has been spent. Too many people are dependent on a system that is clearly on the verge of failing. To many illegals sucking the system dry, to few people of moral courage.

    • mondobeyondo

Yes, we have it rather good in the U.S., comparatively speaking.

The average American can’t comprehend living on less than $5.00 a day, but much of the Third World lives like that. If you think about it, that is actually scary. $5.00 a day. You’d blow that away just buying a pack of Marlboros.

How do they cope? I don’t know. Perhaps they buy a Big Mac meal for the family today. Pay part of the electric bill tomorrow. Rice on Thursday. Corn at the market on Saturday, if there’s enough money. Pray for money to pay water company next week…

If your major worry is getting the latest PS3 game or iPad app — you have no worries at all.

    • Kevin

      A Doggy Bloke

We used to compare ourselves with the developed world and now we look at “Well our poor are better than The Third World”.

“How do you look young and thin? Hang out with old fat people”.

Beware the movement of the bar.

    • Groener

Don’t forget that in the $5/day countries, a bag of rice is usually $10, enough to feed a family for a month. Bus fare is , say, 5 cents to 10 cents. Nobody but officials and soldiers have cars, but if one is industrious enough one can buy a used bike for maybe $20 back there.

Of course people there will have a hard time buying Iphones or any of Steve Jobs’ BS, but the price of essentials are much lower (although the quality of them wouldn’t be something Americans will tolerate ).

  • russell

Number 41 of embarrassing things Americans have done:

    Electing a jug-eared, purple-lipped **************** as president.

Welcome to the land of Big Chief DuDu Oturda….

  • Gil

    And this is bad how?

    1. Does this statistic include those jailed for 1 month alongside those jailed for 50 years? It appears so. As long as those in jail desterve to be there, who cares? It could also simply mean the U.S. law enforcers are really good at their jobs. Chances are, criminals would prefer this to other parts of the world where corporal and capital punishment are the norm. There’s something to said that poorer nations can’t afford to detain and feed people for extended periods.

    2. Maybe because the U.S. has an extremely high rate of car ownership. Poor nations have high crime rate but car theft would be a sign of luxury over there.

    3. This is good – people in the U.S. are the best fed. People can choose to put down the fork if they get too fat. There plenty of parts in the world where being fat is a preserve of the rich.

    4. Yay! Americans can afford flavoured, sweetened water whereas people in poor nations usually don’t have clean water sources at all.

    5. Yay! Americans have voted with their dollars as to what they eat and drink.

    6. Americans have too much leisure time? Poor diddems!

    7. I guess people in poor people don’t have to worry about credit fraud since no one would in their right mind lend them money so there’s noo credit to defraud from them. Then again how much do American politicians steal in foreign aid from rich counties?

    8. Americans are so rich that every person has their own private residence? Imagine that! Whereas poor people have to slum it under one roof to make their meagre incomes go as far as possible.

    9. Men and women can lose to leave a crappy marriage in America? I’m sure women loved the good ol’ days when marriage was for life and they were forever stuck with an abusive husband.

    10. Or does that mean where births outside of marriage and teen pregnancy is deemed offensive as opposed to other culture where women are expected to get married in their teens and become mothers? After all, that survey only listed rich countries.

    11. Must be the privilege of getting an education alongside the privilege of private gun ownership. Most countries only have of one of those two privileges.

    12. Because it’s deemed a crime to abusive to children? Because employees are obliged to report any child abuse they susupect? Unlike the good ol’ days when adult could discipline children and it was no one’s business.

    13. Because snake handling is a religion in America or because so many Americans grow up cushy homes they don’t know what dangerous reptiles look like?

    14. So? If you prefer to defend yourself in court, go ahead.

    15. This is bad how?

    16. Americans don’t have to tough it and hope the illness doesn’t disable or kill them? Poor diddems.

    17. So? Let the free market decide.

    18. American women can get medication for their depression instead of toughing it out? Poor diddems.

    19. People in other parts of the world don’t get diagnosed and are shunned, hated or ostracised perhaps?

    20. But it should all be legal and left for consumer decide what they want to put in their bodies, right?

    21. Who lends credit to poor people I wonder?

    22. Who gives mortgages to poor people?

    23. How wonderful it must be in poor nations where is education is seen as a privilege not a right.

    24. Oh well.

    25. Is the U.S. a passive consumer of high-end manufactured products and electronic equipment from other nations or does the U.S. have it’s fair share of highly productive companies on the world stage that have to be run and staffed by highly competent people?

    26. * Spittake! * Americans are so rich as to afford something completely superflous as plastic surgery.

    27. Except involuntary starvation, rancid food and diseased water.

    28. As opposed to plenty of parts of the world where crimes either go unreported or there’s no real governing body to complain to at all.

    29. Oh well then again many poor people can only travel as far as their feet will take them.

    30. Poor nations don’t speend much at all on healthcare and don’t have much in healthy people.

    31. Oh well.

    32. Oh well. Then again better than utter lawlessness I guess.

    33. Oh well. Then again fewer nukes means less chance of radiation poisoning for everyone in event of a large scale war.

    34. Oh well.

    35. That means more firearms for everyone makes them freer people, right?

    36. Rich biches drive cars unlike walking, cycling or riding some animal.

    37. Better elections than coronations, eh?

    38. Oh well.

    39. Oh well.

    40. Oh well.

  • Eisenkreutz

Michael: If you find the time, you must cover the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act and the Enemy Expatriation Act. We must keep our brothers and sisters in liberty in the know. Reading the comments section of this blog every day has convinced me that there are still a few real Americans left that share a common bond of values, faith, and culture. God Bless.

  • Justa Guy

America is #1 at re-electing the same representatives that violate the laws they are sworn to uphold. The people have been so dumbed-down that they vote based on their insanity, that even though they complain about things getting worse, they keep voting for the same people, expecting a different result. The vast majority of the people are voting based on “their party”. What they don’t seem to understand is, they’re voting to pay for the party, but they aren’t invited to participate. Keep voting for The Party comrades…

  • Eric Gunther Oberhauser

Now read DEUTERONOMY 28 and find out why America is number one in all of these areas.

    • Jeremy

It is because the people have rejected God’s law. Frightening chapter, intended for the children of Israel and their future captivity in Egypt, but the principles are just as true here, now.

Maybe because god is an asshole.
He gave us malaria, polio, Ebola, etc.

  • Mark T.

Shouldn’t it be 39 Reasons? What is the difference between #13 & #14?

  • MoT

So where is the “downside” to reducing #33…? Is that a trick question?

Seeing as how a few articles back a couple of months ago you were trying to reignite the cold war with Russia, I find it odd that you have not written any articles claiming that Satan’s right hand Vladmir Putin will now launch a nuclear attack against the asylum states. Don’t you have an opinion on the Russian election that has returned Putin back to the Russian Presidency?

  • Piglet

[#33…Yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.]

This is not necessarily a bad idea. If these things are fired, it’s all over for everyone, except maybe the cockroaches. If the blasts and the radiation don’t get you right away, the radioactive clouds will, and you’ll wish you had died right away instead of slowly and painfully. We’ve already had numerous occasions when the USA or the Russians almost fired their arsenals by mistake, thinking the other was attacking. We were lucky those times, but luck has a way of running out. Besides, other countries need not fire anything at us, which would only invite retaliation. They don’t have to be readers of these columns to know that the USA is circling the drain and it’s not too far from collapse, and rather than risk annihilation, all they have to do is let us continue down this same path. And why should they wish to reduce the USA to ashes when they can just let the country collapse and then pick up the pieces they want, such as farming land, water supplies, industry, etc. People? Well, those won’t be in much demand. It would be best to make exit plans now rather than when it’s too late.

    41. Having mentally challenged people who foolishly vote republican against their own self interest.

    42. Conservatives period.

The Democrats ship my job to Asia and disarm me.

The Republicans only ship my job to Asia.

      It’s the lesser of evils.

      • Gary2

        dude-ever have an orginal thought???

  • Virginia

A country is only as good as its people. Could it be that many Americans took the wrong path in life, listened to the wrong people instead of what was in their own hearts. We are a nation of people who have literally sold our souls in order to “belong and fit in.” Now people are wallowing in in despair because they made bad choices for themselves in order to be like everyone else. What happened to the rugged individualist that America made America great, the guy that blazed his own path and gave others inspiration and hope?

    • Jeremy

I blazed my own path, with almost only scorn and derision from my teachers and peers. Don’t get me wrong, I believe rugged individualism is to be admired, and I make the same decisions over again. It is sad, though, if you choose to blaze your own trail in this country nowadays, you will not be supported by many. Most would laugh. I am on the verge on becoming a licensed attorney, while those I grew up with have done nothing and are losers. It is horrible what we have become. We can reverse course, but it will take tremendous moral courage.

  • Nexus789

Well at least America is tops at some things.

  • Jeremy

This article is on the money. It is absolutely shameful what out country has become. I am an optimistic and hopeful person (partly because I am building my life amongst this), but things are not getting better.

  • stonelifter

the numbers for America look a lot better once you remove negros and mexicans from the equation and divorce is pretty much driven by women. Change no fault divorce laws, make it a White nation again and things would be much better

  • debi goldman

stonelifter! racism in any form is an indication of a low intellect and a lousy selfesteem. Haters are loosers-period1 As for Mexucans-hey! If you’d remove all those out of the pic, trust me-you are not gonna survive just based on your white but pale and pointless skin color. Those HARD WORKIN and SWEETEST,peceful peps are working 24/7 by cooking in EVERY AMERICAN restaurant EVERYWHERE,feeding YOU,they do love their families and don’t complain about anything and are very HAPPY ppl. They clean for YOU, they’ll do any job to make their kids a NEXT AMERICAN BEST!!!! generation with great education and more beneficial to our society rather than suckers like YOU, WHO’D BE THEIR PARENT’S FINAL DREAM OF ACHIEVING ALL GOOD IN LIFE upon their parent’s bloody, hard job, while supplying you with fresh farm froot and veggies every morning… Hey…How many Americans do you know personally who’d wanna do that job??? So,shut up! Without those, honestly(same slavery as it was always in our country regardless of our FAKE democratic monuments and ingnoring that fact out of its reality)-ppl like you wouldn’t be able to know HOW to survive. Having the money to pay a slave-you HAVE to have that slave around in a first place. Otherwise, wash you money in a toilet:)

    • katch

Racism is NOT an indication of low intellect NOR is it an indicator of “lousy self-esteem”. Racism is a process by which biases towards certain criteria based on self perceptions are formed via personal interactions and media. Is it normal? I don’t know. I don’t care. But I can’t stand the thought of people like you throwing in the “Racism, so your stupid, And I win so shut up” card. Then turn around call someone a “white but (sic) pale and pointless skin color.” then accuse the “white but” of not being able to survive with out slaves. You refer to “they” cleaning for him. “They” a generalization term that in essences groups a particular people based on a specific criteria….hmmmmm…RACISM by definition. Your entire post is very obviously racist in nature and accuses a man in 2014 of owning slaves to survive. Thus deeming any failures at your own life as justifiable because this person somehow has managed to gain slaves in 2014 and use them against your advancement in society.
And I used to own a farm. And I personally know a lot of Americans that are willing to do “that job”. I also know a lot of illegals and new immigrants that are just as willing. But you, like so many others, prefer to get your “reality and research” done on a little 32 inch black box hooked up to Time Warner. And to scream, “You never would of survived without slaves.”…how do you know? The situation never presented itself. Therefore you can only base that theory on a racist bias that holds absolutely no merit what so ever. I could say that Columbus would of never made it any land if he was girl. What is my merit for that theory? None. Such is yours. Racism is not going away. Sorry, it is just that way. People are people, and people form their own ideas and their own perceptions of truth and reality. Just as you are clearly displaying racism. So may others. I know many hate me for my skin color, many hate me for my heritage, many hate me just because they can. I chose not to hate, I don’t have time for such a consuming emotion. I accept and continue on with my life and make my life better for those around me.

      • archeoastronomer

I can’t afford to hire anyone to do my dirty work, so I’m not included.

    • archeoastronomer

Yeah Mexicans are warm and lovely people, I agree. They are Americans, after all. The ones who came here are here because NAFTA and GATT destroyed their farms (couldn’t compete with the low subsidized American wheat dumped on their markets).

  • Cacroline

Some of us are aware there is a lot of problems in our own country but some will not accept that we are not the best thing in the world and it needs to change. In my opinion as an American the people on welfare need to get off their asses and do something besides mooching off of the people who do work which is making us poor. We need to use our own natural resources such as oil instead of spending a shit load of money for oil from the Middle East. This would create more jobs especially if we started making our own crap instead of China. Schooling should be important cause my teacher asked basic questions about our own country that a few of the kids could not answer but the Chinese exchange student knew all our history. The government needs to get their heads out of their asses and think about the country. We have freedom of religion yet the Bible is banned in a lot of schools as well a praying and Christians get bashed a lot as well as well as the Muslims. If 80% of the population claims to be Christian why not allow the Bible. There’s a lot more we need to do but I’m done ranting. I’m 15 and debt and taxes will be my problem as well in a few years.

  • This article is as negative as our daily news, which by the way is #41 – More Negative Daily News than any other country.

The author of this fine piece is so pessimistic, he would do well to research other countries embarrassing things that make them not so best in the world and if he found them to be better, then he has to ask himself… why is he still living in the USA?

    • Richard

You obviously are drinking the cool aid and don’t want to believe the facts.
This country is really sad, and everything in that article is true.

Go back under the rock you climbed out under and worship your great messiah Obama.

      • Derrick

Richard, people like you are one of the reasons this country is in decline. The moment someone says something you don’t agree with, you are ready to smack them down with whatever tired political rhetoric you have available. I’m no fan of Obama, but the tendency of people to believe that one president or one political party is wholly responsible for everything that’s messed up here is ridiculous, to say the least. This decline has occurred over *decades*, and both political parties have had a hand in it, as well as, yes, the American people. There is no easy fix, because there is no easy problem. Saying that it’s all Obama’s fault is childish and short-sighted. Just as saying that it’s all Bush’s fault. Or all Reagan’s fault. It doesn’t matter, no one factor is at play here. Pull your head out of your ass, turn off Fox News long enough to see how the world really is, and try to make a difference instead of complaining that there are people who don’t believe in the same things you do. Be a solution instead of a problem.

      • I am Republican, and i feel like this country is not sad. I served this country and find it extremely stupid that you are saying such things.

      • Shirley Williams

‘At-a-way, blame it on Obama! The do-nothing Congress is counting on you doing just that! Blame Obama for the results of their actions and policies. I hoped we wouldn’t be #1 in people who disrespect/hate their president, but I guess that is too much to hope for.

      • shipsternsbluff

so obama is to blame for all these? get under your rock troll

    • JamieH

I agree. I would rephrase and specify however that we are epistemologically corrupt. No one is taught how to think. No logic primers, no critical thinking, no reasoning just feel-thinking. I.e. “I just feel that Jesus is lord, or I Just feel Dewey Cheatum would be an excellent president.” Whatever happened to knowing things. Oh that’s right Immanual Kant and John Dewey… “We don’t teach science. We teach Johnny.”

      • Andrew Ewers

I completely agree with you JamieH. Without a way to determine what truly has value you need a way to assess and evaluate it. That is one thing many Americans lack. The capacity to view things both objectively and subjectively is another. I feel that things are going to get far worse before they get any better, because history teaches us that is the common trend, but not because it makes me happy to think so.

    • Ana

Sure, America has many problems that need to be fixed, but most of the “problems” mentioned in the list are a side effect of something else in the system.
For example, If you have a system that evalutes people more, then we’ll see more “cases” of deppresion reported. i bet you that half those wiomen are taking meds because they think it will make them more efficient and functional. If people in other countries are evaluated the way Americans are, I’m sure we’ll see more reported mental disorders.
death by a repltile? sitting in traffic? Really? Are Americans doing something unique to bring that upon themselves? why are those even in the list?
College education is expensive. hence most student debts. Isn’t that better than “Most girl students killed for going to school”?

    • Katch

I did research it and lived it and pretended just like you that america was still number 1. I got tired of hearing the Waaaa..if you don’t like it leave B.S. from people just like you. And guess what I did. And I have tripled my income in 6 months. Started my own business, and bought a 4 story building to expand to. 50 years of listening to people tell me, “Oh, the other countries suck because I watched my black box of reality the cable supplies me with, and they said so.” And I just up and left it. And guess what. My life is a lot better since leaving the Democratic Peoples Republic of America. And I see thousands more like me everyday. Happy they left too. If the IRS would make it simpler to “out process” your country, I would give up my citizenship in a heart beat.

      • 2011PaperReader2

“I would give up my citizenship in a heart beat.” Sounds like b.s. to me.

      • 2011PaperReader2

Which citizenship are you talking about? The country where you came from or the country you currently went go back to? Please clarify your citizenship. Maybe you could also provide everyone reading your comment with some details of your business and how you started it with or without money. How did you acquire a license or insurance to operate it, was it incorporated, etc? Your comment is difficult to comprehend, in it you aver you left the democratic peoples republic of America. Your comment only proves foreigners don’t know how to renounce their freely given US citizenship after they entered the US illegally.

    • 1American1st

You need to back & actually read the article that precedes the LIST. I now know what Jonathon Gruber was talking about.

  • naeem

answer to #25 ..we are not going to school for education but for having sex….. :)

  • Many of these facts are due to the country’s size. Where it says “rate” or percentage of GDP, there is more validity. Number 41 should be “Most Clueless.” We’re clueless because we’ve excelled at being too lazy to actually have any real knowledge about the issues before us, instead preferring to browse headlines, then mouth off about it.

    • Pewdiecuties

India and China have a bigger population than the US so … yeah… why not India or China be the top criminals, or top this and that? Cuz they have discipline and respect and proper education.
13 year old, half russian, half norwegian, lived in many countries, 8 languages, and can´t understand the American education, they never learn about anything outside the US, pretty sad

      • archeoastronomer

And we are never taught our constitution either. Most Americans are deluded into thinking we elect the president and we don’t; the Electoral College actually votes for a president. The citizens just hold a ‘popularity contest’

    • Six String Samurai

Clueless? I have a better word….apathetic. As long as people have their comfort and their entertainment they simply do not care what goes on around them….until it effects them directly.

  • Everybody is dumbed down by the mainstream media, news, etc, along with the propaganda.

  • Some of these are off, Argentina has a lot more teen pregnancies than the USA. Nice to see you lack facts in some of these.

    • Shirley Williams

So, would you rather we be known as the most depressed country in the world? Maybe, then possibly someone would try to find out why.

    • Tantrix

Actually in 2013 the teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. was 31.3 per 1,000 teens whereas in Canada it was 28.2 per 1,000 teens which is about 10% less than the USA.

  • lily

america is way better than what that little ****** are said

  • miley

i agree with lily atleast america is better than canada

    • Tantrix

      Keep dreaming

      • archeoastronomer

        Weather isn’t so cold.

  • Katie

lol reporting on a problem does not mean you are contributing to it if anything bringing awareness to this should help it. lol well it would help it if readers did something about it instead of bitching about how the writer depressed them and made them sad.

  • Phaeton420

Saying “That’s just the way it is and has been. Stop blaming the current ‘guy’.” is only part accurate. Watch The Obama Deception or if you don’t like Alex Jones, watch Professor Grif on Fire. each video in its own merit does a handsome and admirable job telling the viewer how Obama has engaged in broken promise after broken promise. I believe he is more upset that Obama is a liar. Obama appeared to push hard for Hope and Change only yield 5 more years of worse contribution, if that’s what one is so inclined to call “policy passed under this President/Administration” than his predecessor.

That being said, lobbyist spending is an even larger culprit behind these staggering numbers than our Liar in Chief. The average Congressman received $5.5 million in lobbyist money just in 2012. That is money they took above their comfortable salary to enact laws against us. That makes the people who donated that money more in control over our lives, often quietly. So we got fatter, more stupid, less educated, etc. etc.

But in reality we need to blame ourselves. We need to take responsibility for not caring aka for being “asleep” while legislation was passed right under our noses and not doing a damn thing about it besides ranting online (if that) when we found out our country is on a runaway train.

Simply by doing nothing, it is never coming back and it IS going to get worse. Why? Because it works… for those making money.

The buck has to stop somewhere and until you good people agree in unison like some of these other countries have, it will perpetuate.

So if you want to start blaming someone, blame yourselves first, as I do. It’s time to take heed to the alarm, rise, and get out of bed.

  • Matthew Black

“#25 U.S. citizens spend more time in school than anyone else in the world. So why are so many of us dumb as a rock?”

This is simply not true in many ways. First off, Americans are not dumb as a rock. It is impossible for any human being to be of equal intelligence to a rock, since rocks have no brains.

    • Pewdiecuties

Its a figure of speech, a similie, it basically means super dumb, and that you didnt know what “dumb as a rock” referred to just makes the statement more true. By the way i am not american, i am half norwegian half russian and lived in many many countries and know 8 languages, english was my 5th and i am 13 yrs old

  • I’ll assume these numbers are all per-capita and not just comparing totals?

  • Jericho7

He forgot to add debauchery to his list.

  • lakdjflaskjfa

what’s so bad about spending a lot of money on our schools than other countries? There’s nothing wrong with education, and I can’t think of other places that provide as good for students as american schools do..

Are we on the top ten of teachers sexting students, esp. female teachers preying on young adolescents in their classes?

Most people don’t care about us but I can’t blame anyone who hates us. We’re nothing but a nation of roidmonkey bullies and degenerate whores.

    • archeoastronomer

Wrong. Most people are working hellish hours or sometime multiple jobs to eat and raise kids. A growing number are living in their cars. Health care is difficult and jobs don’t pay enough to sustain a house or even an apartment. You must live in a well off area.
