There Will Be Earthquakes: The Crust Of The Earth Violently Roars To Life In Chile And Nepal

Nepal Earthquake 2015 - Photo by Krish DulalJust within the past few days, one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Chile erupted for the first time in 42 years and the nation of Nepal was hit by the worst earthquake that it has seen in 80 years.  Even though the crust of the Earth seems to be shaking more violently than ever, most of the experts continue to assure us that what we are witnessing is “normal” behavior.  But the cold, hard numbers tell a very different story.  As I pointed out in a previous article, the number of volcanic eruptions that are happening right now is greater than the 20th century’s average for an entire year.  Our planet appears to be getting more unstable, and that is not good news for any of us.  In fact, it was recently reported that 150 million Americans live in areas that are prone to earthquakes.  No matter how advanced our technology becomes, the truth is that we are still very much at the mercy of the forces of nature, and what just happened in Chile and in Nepal are clear reminders of this reality.

When Chile’s Calbuco volcano erupted a few days ago, it was the first time that it had happened in 42 years.  Scientists tell us that it was “a surprise” and that there weren’t really any significant warning signs of any sort.  It is now being projected that this volcano could erupt “for months“, and the ash that this giant volcano releases could have a substantial affect on climate patterns and agricultural production.

When Calbuco first erupted last week, it was quite a spectacular eruption.  If you can believe it, the eruption actually sent ash 11 miles into the air

Ash from the Chilean volcano Calbuco, which erupted without warning this week, reached as far as southern Brazil on Saturday and prompted some airlines to cancel flights to the capitals of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

Calbuco, considered one of the most dangerous along Chile’s chain of around 2,000 volcanoes, erupted twice in 24 hours on Wednesday and Thursday, sending up a spectacular 17-km-high (11-mile) cloud and coating nearby towns in a thick layer of gray ash.

But most of the world quickly forgot about that historic eruption because of the great tragedy that struck Nepal.  The earthquake that rocked Nepal was the worst earthquake to hit that nation in 80 years.  It was originally reported to be a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which would be about 16 times more powerful than the horrifying 7.0 quake that destroyed so much of Haiti back in 2010.  But now authorities are telling us that it was probably a magnitude 7.9 earthquake (which is about 40 percent more powerful than a 7.8 quake).

It would be hard to overstate the power of this extraordinary quake.  According to CNN, a sizable portion of India actually slid underneath Nepal “in a matter of seconds”…

Saturday’s slip took place over an area about 1,000 to 2,000 square miles over a zone spanning the cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara in one direction, and almost the entire Himalaya mountain width in the other. A part of India slid about one to 10 feet northwards and underneath Nepal in a matter of seconds.

It is probably going to take weeks for authorities to understand the full scope of the devastation.  We are being told that thousands are dead, but that is probably just the tip of the iceberg.  In Kathmandu, dead bodies are being laid out in the streets and covered with white sheets…

Scarcely covered by white sheets, the bodies of those buried alive in their homes have been laid in the street. Overrun by the escalating disaster and in fear of any deadly aftershocks which could collapse yet more buildings, hospital staff have begun treating the wounded outside.

You can see some photographs of the earthquake damage right here.  With each passing hour, more bodies are being pulled out of the rubble.  Sometimes, rescuers find the living right next to the dead

Weeping with relief, a survivor of the Nepalese earthquake is pulled from what remains of his ruined home after spending the night buried alive.

Among the debris which entombed him for 24 hours is a lifeless body, one of more than 2,500 across the Himalayas in the wake of the escalating disaster.

The corpse is that of the man’s friend – the last person he spoke to before disaster struck his home in Swyambhu in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Cheek-to-cheek, they were both pulled from the rubble on Sunday, a day after the 7.8 earthquake wreaked havoc across Nepal.

But some of the worst damage will likely be in the remote villages.

As one aid worker in the region explained, sometimes earthquakes can cause rock slides that can bury entire villages

“Villages like this are routinely affected by landslides, and it’s not uncommon for entire villages of 200, 300, up to 1,000 people to be completely buried by rock falls,” said Matt Darvas, a member of the aid group World Vision. “It will likely be helicopter access only.”

The people of Nepal deserve our prayers and our help.  What they have been through is absolutely horrible.

Sadly, if the shaking of our planet continues to accelerate, this is only just the beginning of the tragedies.

For decades, things in the U.S. have been relatively calm.  The only major volcanic eruption was Mt. St. Helens, and major earthquakes have been few and far between.

But just because things have been quiet for a very long time does not mean that they will continue to be.  Scientists tell us that the west coast is overdue for a major quake, and a crippling megaquake could hit the New Madrid fault in the center of the country at any time.

Our way of life depends upon a stable planet, and that is what we have been blessed with most of the time over the years.

However, if things are now changing and volcanic eruptions and major earthquakes are going to become much more common, that changes everything.

So what do you think about all of this shaking that has been going on around the world?

And what do you think is causing it?

Please feel free to tell us what you think by posting a comment below…

Yes it seems the activity has increased. But that could just be part of a cycle. What gets my attention are quakes where there has never been any. Early 2014 Florida had a quake felt from the Keys to Orlando. Now that is unheard of. Yet at the time, few noticed the significance.

    Michael,

Your last question is rhetorical. You know the answer: G-d is punishing those who go against Him. He has a hard time forgiving: idol worship (India, Nepal, all of Southern Asia), sexual deviance (gays no matter where, rape, etc.–the U.S. is next), and murder (look at inner cities in the U.S.). So places like the U.S is long overdue for a 10.0 earthquake in the West. The U.S. is long overdue for a Hurricane that will destroy all of the the Southeast. The U.S. is long overdue for the Madrid Fault quake. etc. People need to change their ways and repent. Or leave if they are descent G-d fearing people. Don’t to traveling to places where those things happen. They happen because those people are against G-d. There still is a a lot of idol worship in the world. There is still is a lot of unnatural and immoral sexual activity in the world. There still is a lot of murder in the world. We should pray those people will repent. But at what expense? Is the descent, moral, law abiding citizen obligated to put his family’s safety at risk? There is no easy solution other than to move to a place that has the same values that were cherished a two hundred years ago.

There have always been earthquakes. So G-d must be continually punishing mankind. Reminds me of an angry nun when I went to Catholic school. She liked to rap kids’ knuckles with a ruler for the smallest of offenses.

“…He has a hard time forgiving: idol worship (India, Nepal, all of Southern Asia)….”

did you read that “…the nation of Nepal was hit by the worst earthquake that it has seen in 80 years….”

what, was god busy for 80 years before he finally got around to Nepal?
maybe he was too busy sending killer tornadoes to the Bible Belt?

and NOT one word of sympathy from you for those who died or were injured.

      you are a psychotic self-righteous piece of s* *t

      • Kim

        I agree.

May these innocent souls rest in peace.

      • DJohn1

God is responsible for everything, both bad and good. That is Biblical.

Following that logic to its conclusion, God is actually responsible for the actions of the Devil. Which means they are like together on much of the harm done over time. I am alpha and omega, the beginning and the end.
In job, God lifts the restrictions on punishing man, in this case Job.
Pretty soon he is down to nothing but sores, itches, and torment.
Which basically means God has put certain individuals in charge over all of us.
He places the pieces on the board of life for all of us to contend with.
It is sort of like two boys playing with a magnifying glass.
Either I am wrong in which case I have wasted a lot of life time.
Or you are wrong, and you have wasted your opportunity for Eternal Life.
I believe that the universe is enormous. Far beyond my meager senses to observe. 1 Billion stars in a galaxy give or take. 1 Billion galaxies out there.
So why does he reside here?
If all of this sin is taken into account, why hasn’t the entire planet been erased?
The ancient peoples sacrificed life to communicate with God.
It had to be an innocent lamb. The challenge here is to find anything that is innocent of sin. There are no more virgins past the age of 21-30.
        Mutton anyone?
I guess I have a problem with all those Christians sacrificed like they were pieces on a chess board in the middle east.
I have a problem with straying from the truth.
The truth is that we are all awaiting God’s judgement.
It can occur tomorrow or a couple of hundred years from now.
I have heard about California and the large fault line. The California people have been predicting ultimate disaster for at least 50-75 years or more. It hasn’t happened yet. But there is always tomorrow.
Same with every other prophecy using innocent lambs to communicate with the dead. Priests of all kinds of religions have been making predictions like this for a very long time. The end result is a lot less innocent lambs available.
It is mankind’s fault that they place human personality on God.
        God could care less.

But is God here? I think God is traveling both forward and backwards in time and no one human knows the rules of such travel. Is he here? Probably, though right now God is keeping a very low profile in dealing with things.

Nor the rules of existing here on this planet.
If we had put half the effort we have made war into figuring out a government that does not require human sacrifice or made the effort to cure things like aging, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes type I or type II. But no, we have to war with every other person different than us on the planet.
Don’t worry, government will find someone to take all the blame . . . Meantime man will find it for him if he doesn’t.

        • Gay Veteran

“God is responsible for everything, both bad and good. That is Biblical….”

          well that settles it /sarc/

          • DJohn1

The only thing that makes sense to me is if there is an old testament God it would be configured as the Bible describes it.
The key to all this is in the ancient book Job.

Job describes Satan and God negotiating a bet between them concerning the human Job known for his devotion and loyalty to his God.
IF Job continues to worship God with all the perks taken away the God wins. If he curses God and dies, then Satan wins.
Basically the story is Job continues to worship God no matter what happens to him.
His friends are much more critical.
I think the story of two immortals wagering over a mortal’s behavior is about what I would expect.
The Universe itself is violent. God created the universe as it is.

So Satan has authority over the planet? Not surprised.

Something is going on. Christians are being beheaded. That is so that the body cannot be easily resurrected.
Evil is gaining in the world? Prophets have made prophecy and it must be fulfilled in order for events to go as planned . . .
            I see one giant setup.

A comment on the other comments to A.S: it seems that some are just unable to connect the dots no matter what evidence they are presented with.

First, G-d allows the cup to overflow before punishing (i.e., “slow to anger”- one of the thirteen attributes of G-d listed in the Bible)- hence perhaps the 80 years where there was no punishment.

On the other side, I want to say to A.S. that one should be extremely careful when interpreting what or what not is the result of G-d’s wrath- ultimately we can not know, nor should we be quick to point a finger. We are all of us guilty of not living our lives fully as we should, and those who suffer under rocks and earth right this second- calling and not being heard, hungry, cold and afraid- may G-d hear their prayers and may their salvation be swift.

May all the nations learn soon that the quickest prayer is to the source, not to an iintermediary, and may we all call on the name of G-d in unity.

    • Kim

Sexual deviance and idol worship? Well, if your theory is correct we would have expected to see several 9.0 earthquakes directly below the Vatican by now. But, it’s just plain asinine to assume God would punish the innocent along with the wicked. Abraham had this conversation with God already so we have precedent to refer to.

“And what do you think is causing it?”

    Platetectonics?

  • DJohn1

We have the thinnest outer crust of any planet in the solar system.
I think we are seeing the end results of many years of mankind manipulating the surface of the planet.
Thinks like setting off massive explosions to get to the shale oil underneath and doing so cheaply. If one were to picture the surface as an egg shell, then start puncturing that egg shell, you might get an idea of what is really going on. Each puncture has little immediate result. But when you compound it, things are going to change in a hurry. If it happens it will be a chain-reaction world wide and the damage will be enormous.
Inside that crust are many arteries of water. Some of those arteries are very deep in the Earth. One of the most explosive combinations on the planet is water and molten lava.
The limestone in the crust is melting. It is melting and causing multiple sink holes in places like Florida. One of those arteries going through this limestone emerges at the Gulf and is one of the purest fresh water sources in the country. I have to think it goes underground up north somewhere and stays that way until it reaches Florida. With the acidic nature of much of this water, a whole new underground cavern system is possibly there and it is fragile. Almost anything could set it off.
Some of those caverns are very old. With age comes problems.
That is here. Similar things are happening on the surface all over the planet and India is not immune to that.
The other problem could be a change in the orbit of the planet itself as things become unbalanced at the poles. We have an enormous amount of frozen water at the South Pole. If that water is beginning to melt, it shifts the balance around causing earthquakes all over.
Volcanoes are likely in those circumstances.
We spin at approximately 5 miles per second(18,000 miles per hour) and if the balance is upset it will cause the Earth to change to compensate for the change.
The planet itself is tilted 23 degrees off center. That creates seasons. If the Earth wobbles, then the tilt is likely to change.
Mars has had a significant change over the years with a resultant climate change as well.
Basically the thin crust means over a long time the Earth creates disasters on the surface for all of us.

    • Kim

Building mega cities on fault lines.

    • Valdemar II

Awwww come on bro, we already got the global lamers and their anthropogenic balloney, we don´t need global quakers too!

  • Paul F

Not a single earthquake, not how how powerful or how minor, takes place without the GOD of Israel allowing it. This is HIS world, HE alone created it through HIS HOLY SON MESSIAH YESHUA, and HIS WILL will be done, regardless of what ignorant man says. This earth is designed with such depth, power and mystery that man will never be able to comprehend–GOD allows man to understand what HE allows, and man will go no further. When man seeks GOD through MESSIAH YESHUA, he will find truth. Until then, he lives with a dark veil over his eyes. What’s sickening to me is that the main stream media will report the deaths in the Nepal earthquake, but are silent on the millions of babies murdered under the term’ abortion’. People will report a major earthquake, but the murders of millions of babies remain silent. This is the world we live in today.

  • Tatiana Covington

We have this tiny little slice of time and these things have been happening since the Earth formed, ca 4.6 GY ago. Beware of small-number and short-run statistics.

  • Tatiana Covington

There always will be earthquakes till either the core dynamo runs down, or the expanding sun engulfs the inner planets. Ho hum. Quakes are known to occur on other planets.

  • David

I am no scientist by any means but I do have a theory I believe may be accurate. Since 3/3/2011 when fukushima japan suffered 3 china syndrome melt downs over 1 million pounds of fissioning nuclear fuel or Nuclear Soup is Cooking in the Ground on it’s way to the earth’s mantle and the closer it gets to the mantle the more severe and frequent earthquakes and Volcano eruptions are happening. Sinkholes are appearing everywhere some as deep as 8 stories! I believe there will be in the future a huge megaton nuclear explosion underground that will send shock waves around the Globe and further fracture and destabilize the Ground beneath us all on this planet.

everyone who knows about fukushima are only thinking about the radiation but fukushima goes much deeper than that I am sure.

I can’t envision over 1 million pounds of hot nuclear fissioning soup burning it’s way through 6 miles of earth’s crust and Mother Earth not having any adverse effects. my 2 cents worth.

    • Kim

I’ve always felt that way. Nuclear material, out of containment, fissioning somewhere beneath the earth. No one really knows where it is. Japan has abandoned its robot(ic) program in search for this material. It will never be located or neutralized. It very well could be a factor in the instability of the so called ring of fire.

Studying earthquakes (and effect from earthquakes) from a statistical perspective is very enlightening- especially when discussing them in the context of Matthew 24:3-8.

People may lie, but statistics don’t.

There have been more earthquakes (large, devastating ones over 6.0) in the last hundred years then all of the previous centuries COMBINED. Why is that? If earthquakes are so natural, what is the reason for the aforementioned? Anyone have a science-based, fact-based theory they’d like to offer?

  • Arizona

WOW,this certainly brought out the TROLLS,I never heard so many everythings OK comments,BUT THE TRUTH IS,EVERYTHING AIN’T OK,as the 7.0 and about earthquakes increase,WE draw closer to the time NETANYAHU is forced to sign the peace agreement,WHEN that happens,ALL HELL will be unleashed on every country on earth,ESPECIALLY THE USA who lead the charge to force netanyahu to sign it,AMERICA WILL BE DESTROYED and the people of america don’t care,BUT THEY WILL SOON,its about to happen………..
