The Most Dangerous Place On Earth: The Brutal Drug War Raging On The U.S. Border

Most Americans have no idea that the most dangerous place on earth is just across the United States border.  The city of Juarez, Mexico is nestled right next to El Paso, Texas and it is the murder capital of the world.  So far this year, more than 2,000 people have been murdered in the city.  The Mexican government has been trying to get a handle on the situation, but corruption is so rampant on all levels of government in Mexico and the drug cartels are so incredibly powerful that it just seems to be a losing battle.  But it is not just Juarez that is a crisis point.  The truth is that vast stretches of the U.S. border with Mexico have become war zones and yet the mainstream media in the United States is strangely silent about the whole thing.

The truth is that it is far safer to go to Iraq or Afghanistan today than it is to go to cities like Juarez.  Freelance journalist Jeff Antebi recently described to CNN what he experienced when he went to Juarez….

“When I arrived in Juarez,” says Antebi, “within an hour, over the police scanners, a body has been found. And maybe 30 minutes later, another body.

“And then another body. And by the end of the day, it was 10. The next day, 10. The next day, 10.”

The Mexican government says that as many as 28,000 people have been slaughtered by the drug cartels since 2007.  The drug cartels are constantly at war with each other and with Mexican authorities.  In the video posted below, one reporter went to Juarez to try to get a sense of what is happening to that city….

It would be really hard to understate what a disaster zone Juarez has become. In an interview with Democracy Now, author Charles Bowden described how a once very prosperous city has become a literal hellhole as a result of all this violence….

So what you have is about 10,000 federal troops and federal police agents all marauding. You have a city where no one goes out at night; where small businesses all pay extortion; where 20,000 cars were officially stolen last year; where 2,600-plus people were officially murdered last year; where nobody keeps track of the people who have been kidnapped and never come back; where nobody counts the people buried in secret burying grounds, and they, in an unseemly way, claw out of the earth from time to time. You’ve got a disaster. And you have a million people, too poor to leave, imprisoned in it.

It doesn’t matter if you are an American either.  The drug cartels will gun you down and gut you like a fish in a heartbeat.  For example, NPR recently described one horrific incident in the Juarez Valley that involved American citizens….

A couple of weeks ago, gunmen in the Juarez Valley killed the Mexican relative of a Fort Hancock high school student. When the student’s family in Fort Hancock heard about it, they crossed the border at 10 a.m. to see the body, and took the student with them.

“By 10:30, they had stabbed the relatives that went with him, which included his grandparents, with an ice pick,” says school superintendent Jose Franco. “My understanding is that the gentleman is like 90 years old, and they poked his eyes out with an ice pick. I believe those people are still in intensive care here in a hospital in the U.S.”

Are you starting to get an idea of just how brutal these drug cartels actually are?  They are not playing games.

The horrific drug war raging on the U.S. border has created a huge demand for hitmen and acid baths.  In January, authorities arrested Santiago Meza Lopez.  Known as “the soupmaker”, the 45 year old man has confessed that he made about 300 bodies disappear by dissolving them in acid baths.

So why is all of this violence happening?

Well, it is all for control over the sale of drugs to Americans.

The United States is the biggest market for drugs in the world, and there is a ton of money at stake.

The drug cartels will go to great lengths to get their goods into the United States.  This point was illustrated recently when U.S. officials raided a southern California warehouse and discovered a lighted, ventilated passageway 4 feet high and 1,800 feet long crossing into Mexico.  The tunnel was approximately six football fields in length.  During that operation, authorities seized about 25 tons of marijuana.

But this tunnel is nothing new.  The truth is that approximately 75 tunnels along the border with Mexico have been discovered by authorities in the last four years alone.

Unfortunately, most Mexicans don’t even need a tunnel.  Security on the U.S. border with Mexico is a complete and total joke, and illegal aliens come over almost at will.

According to some estimates, there are as many as 30 million illegal aliens in the United States today.  Nobody has any idea how many of them are gang members or are working directly for the drug cartels.

But one thing is for certain – the gang problem in the United States is rapidly getting worse.  Once young illegal aliens arrive in our cities, they quickly find that their employment options are extremely limited.  Large numbers of them end up getting sucked into Spanish-speaking gangs.

U.S. authorities say that there are now over 1 million members of criminal gangs operating inside the United States. According to federal statistics, these 1 million gang members are responsible for up to 80% of the violent crimes committed in the U.S. each year.

Not all of this gang violence is caused by illegal aliens, but a growing percentage of it is.  Spanish-speaking gangs are rapidly becoming the dominant gangs in cities all over the United States.

But it is not just gang violence that is the problem.  The reality is that the Mexican drug cartels are now openly conducting organized military operations inside the United States.  Federal border officials say that Mexican drug cartels have not only set up shop on U.S. soil, but they are actually maintaining lookout bases in strategic locations in the hills of southern Arizona.

From those “forward bases”, the armed drug cartel scouts monitor every move that U.S. border agents make.  In fact, it has been reported that drivers regularly bring these drug cartel scouts food, water, batteries for their radios and everything else that they need to stay in the wilderness for long periods of time.

Yes, this is really happening.

In fact, there is one stretch of Arizona that the U.S. federal government has conceded control of to the drug cartels.  It is a drug smuggling corridor that extends from the Mexican border all the way up to Phoenix, Arizona.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu made national headlines when he told the media what is really going on down there.  The following are just a few quotes from what Babeu told the press….

-“Drug cartels control this area.”

-“Local law enforcement cannot handle and stop this on our own.”

-“We are outgunned, we are outmanned and we don’t have the resources here locally for us to fight this.”

The video news report posted below features Babeu and discusses how the U.S. government has actually made some parts of Arizona off limits to U.S. citizens because of the threat of violence from Mexican drug smugglers….

Yes, things have really gotten that bizarre.  One border agent who wished to remain anonymous told Fox News the following earlier this year….

“To say that this area is out of control is an understatement.”

A different federal agent put it this way in an email to Fox News….

“Every night we’re getting beaten like a pinata at a birthday party by drug, alien smugglers.”

Things have gotten very, very serious along the border and both the Bush and the Obama administrations have refused to do anything to fix the problem.  Today, Arizona police are being openly told that if they try to interfere with all of this drug traffic they will be “taken out” by drug cartel snipers.

Is that how we want our police officers to live?

This is a national disgrace.

The U.S. federal government refuses to secure our border, and drug violence is spilling over onto our soil and into our cities.

For over 50 years, the U.S. military has completely and totally secured the border between South Korea and North Korea.  We have spent millions upon millions of dollars to do this and during that time there has not been a single unauthorized entry into South Korea across that border.

But the U.S. government says that it cannot secure our border with Mexico.  In fact, there are many in the Obama administration that believe that it would be “a violation of human rights” to put up a fence or to implement extra security on the border.

Meanwhile, drug traffic and drug violence continues to come across the border into the United States.  Already, many U.S. border towns are turning into nightmares.  It would be very difficult to understate the threat that we are facing.

So what do you think about the Mexican drug war and the crisis on the border?  Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion….

I find it ironic that the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the operating costs of our over seas empire have recently exceeded one trillion dollars and we are leaving our borders open like a 24/7 shopping mall for any one to waltz in and what they want in this country. I can not fathom how we have spent fifty years and countless billions of dollars defending other nation’s borders and we leave ourselves wide open for attack. It baffles my mind at the sheer incompetence of our government in regards to guarding the border.

As for the rising crime and violence both on the border and in America in regards to the narco gangs, it is only going to get worse. I was watching on Fox News where a malitia group armed with AK-47s have volunteered to go onto the border and provide security for this nation. Now, the Mexican army has made several encroachments into our territory. What is going to happen when these American malitia groups clash with the Mexican Army? And they will. All hell will break loose when they do clash. I can imagine malitia men, law enforcement and the common citizens standing shoulder to should to defend the border states from the onslaught brought on by a failed Mexican state and the narco gangs.

As the growing Hispanic population begins to take effect with their voting rights, we are going to see the eventual return of all border states, including California, to Mexico. However, they will not stop there either. Once they have complete control of this territory they will go on to conquer the rest of America if we do not make a stand and defend our country. We can do this by shutting down and militarizing our borders, especially the south, for obvious reasons.

Call it irony or poetic justice, but European Americans are suffering the same fate that they brought onto to the Native American population by the growing Latino population. Not only did guns and germs help Europenas conquer North America, but birth rates also played a significant part as well. Like the current white population, the Native Americans maintained a sustainable population growth and an equlibrium with the surrounding environment. Eventually whites, who had higher birth rates, over populated the native peoples and became the majority ethnic group on this continent. Similarily latins, with their higher fertility rates, are out pacing the Europeans and even Africans with babies. I say this without judgement, but they are birthing their way to power. I have to hope that once they are in power they will be generous enough to place white people on reservations and allow us to have casinos.

Obama is allowing the border to stay open because they the large influx of immigrants will vote democrat if they are granted amnesty. There approxitmatly ten to thirty million illegal migrants in America. Remember that not all Americans vote and if the ten million plus illegals gain voting rights there will no way to get the democrats out of office and Obama’s second term will be a given because they will all vote for him in the 2012 election.

Basically a civil war is taking place within Mexico and from what I have read and heared about the situation, it seems like the narco gangs are winning the war. Some experts have predicted the eventual fall of the Mexican governemt within five years. The Zetas, a Mexican specieal forces team that was created to combat the narco gangs and they trained in Fort Benning and now they are teaming up with the naro gangs. Their police and military are now joining forces with the narco gang as well.

What is truelly sad about this situation is the human toll, particularly in regards to the immigrants. Alot of these people are coming here to pursue a better life and I understand that and Identify it, but the entire world can not come to our shores in the mass droves that did in the past. People have to make their natives contries work in their favor instead of conducting mass migrations. We are already seeing the fading of the american dream in alot of peoples live. Close to 40 million people are subsisting on food stamps because they can not afford to feed themselves. Massive home forclosures couple with tent citites popping up all over the country. An escalating nation debt that is pushing itself towards 14 trillion dollars with over 50 trillion in entitlement cost such as social security and medicare. We are being bled dry in two needless wars that have no long term benefits for this country along with a plethora of other problems that slap the common citizen in the face. Let’s take care of our own citizens first before we worry about the world.

Look at the topic in this regard. If we grant amnesty to the estimated 30 million migrant workers in this country they will chain migrate tens of millions of their friends and family accross the border and we will eventually over load our carrying capacity. We are already having trouble feeding, employing, educating, incarcerating and housing our own country men, how can we accomodate these people and our own without having large numbers people with absolutely nothing.

What is truely frightning is what will happen once the growing latino population, which is predominently catholic, will clash with the growing black population, which is becoming increasingly islamic by the day. All of you liberals will be really crying racism when you are caught in the cross fire between these groups.

My biggest problem is the fact that none of these immigrants attempt to learn or speak english. There is a flea market where I go to shop and there are atleast twenty different languages being spoken at one time and especially spanish. This is one reason why our schools are failing because we the tax payers fork over atleast $2000 per student in the ESL program to teach a child to say, “How are you?” instead of “Como Estas?” and it seems like it is not working.

Another reason to consider the human toll of illegal immigration is the fact that it is 21st century slave labor. Basically the government, big buisness and private citizens have reinvented the slave trade. We have just traded Africa for Mexico and south America. Modern day Mexicans are really in the same posiyion as blacks were in the 1800s. Slavery is immoral and wrong and everyone who hires illegal aliens in this country should be fined $10,000 per head or do prison time up to five years.

Secondly, what about all of the diseases that the illegals may have that they will be exposing all of us to. There are plenty of new illnesses like drug resistent tuberculosis, MRSA, various types of flu and hepatitus, among others. As more mass migrations become more prevalent in the future, you will have to become more accustom to massive pandemic outbreaks like the swine flu of 2009. The third world squalor that these folks live in their native countries help breed such illnesses and first world countries like America have no immunity to what they have. When a population ha mo immunity to a virus, it spreads faster in a population and its death toll is always high. Remember that these folks are working in meat packing factories and resturants where are food is preped, cooked and handled, it almost makes me not want to eat at the thought of contracting any of theses illnesses.

Mexico is not really a third world country. I will let you have a minute to take that into your mind. Mexico is a member of the G20 summit and they are supposedly the 11th largest economy in the world based on GDP. This means there are much poorer nations in the world. However, Mexico has virtually no middle class, they have an extreme rich class and an extreme poor class. Rather than spread the wealt towards their impoverished citizens, the rich class of mexico encourage them to migrate north and send remittances back home where the rich class takes a large cut for themselves. Carlos Slim, the richest man in the world with an estimated networth 53 billion dollars. He is richer than Bill Gates, this should tell you something. He got rich mainly by exploiting his own people.

We do not have the infrastructure to accomodate a large population growth. All of our major cities and even towns are becoming so crowded that you can hardly drive any where without being stuck in traffic. I read a report a whil that stated that America is going to add another 10 million cars on its road in the next 10-15 years. Our infrastructure is crumbling with no sign of relief. I fear that we will plunder our road to the point that not even a bicycle can function on them.

Here are some pictures of the boder war going on in Mexico between the narco gangs. I have to warn you that these pictures are very graphic.

What is truely frightning is what will happen once the growing latino population, which is predominently catholic, clashes with the growing black population, which is becoming increasingly islamic by the day. Keep in ind that religion is one, if not the most, reason that humans conflict with each other.

An author by the name of Thomas Chittum predicted such a conflict in the coming years. He basically stated that the border states will fall first and then the rest of the country will follow. He described the conflict as a triangle with the three major ethnic groups: whites, latinas and blacks all jockeying for power at the others expense.

As the black and latino populations continue to grow exponentially and with the bad economic out look in the coming decades, I just see the seeds of conflict being sown. With this declinig economy we have countless people who feel disenfranchised and seething with anger. People tendo to stick with their own during ardous times and with the fact that these migrants are not assimilating makes this even more deadly.

legalize all drugs=problem solved. This is about the only thing I agree with the libertarians on.

If people want to do coke etc I could care less. No life is worth loosing from being an innocent by stander who gets shot.

We have clearly failed the war on drugs. Get over it.

  • Greg

Scum from the US that snort, smoke and inject the poison delivered to them by the murderous drug thugs are directly responsible for the murders of tens of thousands of people in the countries that cater to these can’t-help-myself pukes. The law of sowing and reaping has not been repealed. Those same drug-abusing pukes are now going to be directly responsible for the murder of tens of thousands of Americans. This is one more example to prove that people who say “what I do doesn’t matter, I can live any way I choose” are moronic idiots.

The best way to end the drug violence and crime is to end drug prohibition. Unfortunately, our politicians are owned by big pharma, the defense contractors, and even the drug cartels themselves which profit from prohibition.

  • El Pollo de Oro

“When people lose everything and they have nothing left to lose, they lose it.”—Gerald Celente.

And in Mexico, a lot of folks have lost it big time.

The Mexican drug trade is nothing new. It has been going on for generations. Back in 1940, 1950, 1960 or 1970, there was plenty of drug smuggling in Mexico. But it was under the radar. Mexican civilians and tourists from all over the world could generally walk the streets of Guadalajara, Cancun, Tijuana or Acapulco without the fear of catching a stray bullet. Spanish intellectuals who wanted to escape the brutal Franco regime took refuge in Mexico City. Sure, chilangos made fun of their “funny gachupin accents” and their so-called “lisp” (entonthes, que hathes aquí en esta thiudad, vale?) but overall, life in El Distrito Federal was good to them as long as they boiled their drinking water and stayed out of El Barrio Bravo de Tepito. In those days, drug trafficking in Mexico was like la Mafia di Sicilia–yeah, you heard about it, but it wasn’t something that threatened most Mexicans in their day-to-day lives.

That was then, but now, Mexico is an absolute war zone. La violencia en México is truly horrific. México is 10,000 times more dangerous than it was 30, 40 or 50 years ago. What happened? For one thing, globalism happened. NAFTA (No American Factories Taking Applications) happened. NAFTA not only shoved millions of formerly middle class Americans into poverty—it also intensified the poverty in Mexico and made it a lot worse. And many campesinos mexicanos who used to earn an honest living joined the drug cartels.

Remember a tejano by the name of Ross Perot? He ran for presidente de los Estados Unidos back in 1992? Por supuesto que lo recuerdan. As Michael Snyder has often pointed out on this blog, Perot prophetically warned us about that “giant sucking sound” of American jobs going south of the border. Perot was absolutely right: globalism is a race to the bottom. Globalism is a stinking cancer. Es una maldita maldición. There are a variety of patriots who understand that. Some liberal/progressives understand what’s going on; some libertarian/paleoconservatives such as Gerald Celente, Alex Jones, Justin Raimondo and Ron Paul get what’s going on. Liberal or conservative, anyone who resists the globalist plague is OK in my book.

And another thing: Justin Raimondo ( speaks the truth when he says that the neocon imperialist bastards who continue to fantasize about an empire in the Middle East need to worry about protecting our own borders instead. Nation-building in the Middle East or Africa? No thanks, neocons. Screw the neocons’ stinking empire fantasies. I say protect California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas instead.

  • El Pollo de Oro

Una cosa mas: in Mexico, a journalist took the libertarian position and advocated legalizing all drugs. Did the cartels thank him? Not exactly. He was inundated with death threats from drug cartels, who obviously thought it was in their best interests that drugs REMAIN illegal in Mexico. That speaks volumes. If that doesn’t validate the libertarian position, I don’t know what does. So the next time that windbag Bill O’Reilly is trying to shout down John Stossel, Billo The Clown can bellow and scratch himself like an ape all he wants—STOSSEL IS RIGHT.

America should not feel bad about trying to limit immigration like what is going on with the new Arizona law because the entire world is doing the same thing with their own immigration policies.

For the last fifty years America has pushed the most liberal immigration policy in the world. Since 1965 America has been flooded by third world immigrants. First, I have no problem with people trying to better their lives, but we can not bring the entire world to our shores because we would simply over load our own country.

If what is currently going on in Mexico is indicative of what is to come in the future, then we should go ahead and pull back all of our armed forces from around the globe and post them from the Pacific coast of California to gulf coast of Texas to defend our southern border.

Probably within the next five years Mexico is going to become a fully failed state and a much bigger threat to American security than it is right now. Imagine tens of millions more migrants breaking down our door to get into our country and along with they bring even more drugs and violence into America.

  • We need to tax the rich 100% of their income and we also need to require the rich to work 20 hours per week in homeless shelters.

We also need to give Barack Obama a salary increase because his job is so difficult, having to deal with millions of racist white people in the USA. (by the way, Barack should get an exemption from having 100% of his income taxed, because he is America’s first black President).

Also, we need to place a 4 dollar tax on Marlboro cigarettes in order to punish rednecks for being racist against Obama. ;)

  • mondobeyondo

Excuse me, but isn’t Arizona one of the 50 states of the United States of America?

Last time I checked, it was. Shows it on my U.S. map (maybe it’s outdated though!)

Then WHY are American citizens prohibited from traveling on American land in an American state, because of Mexican drug cartels?

I thought we had an Army and Marines to take care of this kind of thing.

  • Charles

There is not much that we can do in this lifetime to stop our citizen’s from using mind altering substances(including the dope alcohol). So forget about anything changing on the user end.
The only way to stop the mayhem is thru decriminalization.
And don’t expect any changes until a few of the American lawmakers children are kidnapped or killed by these cartels.

  • tyler

Usually if your comment is longer than the article people won’t read it. The border situation is a disaster and I have honestly just tuned it out because I can’t listen to how government officials continue to commit treason. By the way I just found your site and seeing it called the american dream with those detroit houses underneath the title is in a sick way hillarious. It should be a wake up call to anyone who visits this site.

  • xander cross

The person that said that blacks are converting into Islam is indeed misinformed. The problem with the border is that the government is allowing them across so that they can have a excuse to pass more laws against the american people. Problem+reaction=solution.

  • Krieg

Alternatively, one can postulate an alternative solution to the prohibition ending stance preferred by both libertarians and a large majority of the social left. This second stance, a hardline crackdown on the agents of distribution that form the network supporting these cartels, can be summarily explained in a single, simple sentence:
“If you are a member of an organization participating in the distribution of illicit narcotics within the United States, we will kill you.”
The members of these cartels are not faceless drones. They are not shadowy cabals without notable identifying characteristics. The people distributing drugs and doling out wanton violence are simple to spot, and when we find them it should be the duty of any enforcement officer to execute them with extreme prejudice.

These people have show they are not above inexcusable acts of violence, and it is apparent that violence is the only form of punishment that works (we can’t incarcerate them or deport them, they just come back or gain a better reputation within the gang). Therefore, depriving them of the ability to further their own ends and instilling a primal fear within any potential recruits for the gang becomes a priority for any logic-minded citizen.

Certainly there will be cries of “Fascist,” “Racist,” and such by opposing forces, but those are the voices neglecting the facts of the matter at hand- there is no other way to handle this situation.

  • Sam Brown

So, it seems Arizona cops are only tough against UNARMED immigrants, because when it comes to having people shoot back, all of a sudden they are “outmanned and outgunned” – bummer. So they’re only good for strutting around and abusing their power on American citizens, just like the LAPD. Now, if the well trained, funded and armed US police forces cannot handle the initial incursions by these cartels… what will a militia do against them?

  • booter

The solution to America’s problem with the drug cartel-wars, and the violence, and the insanity is simple. AMERICA NEEDS to GET OFF the DRUGS! No demand=No market=No drug cartel, STOP BUYING THEIR DRUGS and; the dealers, the growers, then the gangs, cease to exist. America has made a deal with ‘El Diablo’ and the price is very costly, and will NEVER STOP or GO AWAY until American citizens take responsibility for their actions! So until then just remember ‘we all get what they[the drug users] pay for’….

  • Nathan McMurray

Ending the violence is simple: end prohibition.

  • john

1st the US government should buy all the poppies in Afghanistan and do what ever it wants it them. Simple and cheap, win win for the world, growers, and takes the money away the bad folks. 2nd permit pot growing for personal use. 3rd decriminalize possession of all drugs. This takes away the money which fuels the violence
