Some Preppers Are Getting Ready For The End Of The World, While Others Are Running For Office

Prepper - Photo by Nomadic Lass on FlickrDeep inside, most of us know that something is coming.  Many of us may not know exactly what it is that is heading our way, but there are millions of Americans that feel so alarmed about what they sense is on the horizon that they are taking extreme measures to get prepared.  Of course the list of potential catastrophic disasters is endless – economic collapse, civil unrest, historic earthquakes, power grid failure, Islamic terror, Hillary getting into the White House, etc.  There are so many things that could bring this country to its knees, and there are lots of preppers out there that are feverishly preparing their homes and their families for doomsday.  But there are others that are taking very different approaches.  As you will see below, some preppers have decided that the best thing to do is to run for office, while others are getting out of the United States completely.

In this article, I do not intend to tell you which approach is best for you and your family.  In the end, each one of us needs to do what we feel is best for those that we love.  And for many Americans, that means finding a property that is “off the grid” and that is far away from large population centers.  According to realtor.com, sales of prepper properties are really surging right now…

Some real estate companies are seeing big increases by specializing in “survivalist properties”—large parcels of rural land with homes targeted specifically to preppers, with full fortification and self-sustainable food and energy options. After all, why not grow your own tomatoes and kale while you wait out the end of the world as we know it?

For example, sales at American Redoubt Realty, a real estate firm nestled in the heart of prepper country in northern Idaho, are up 50% over the same time last year, says real estate agent Todd Savage, who specializes in such transactions. His clients typically hail from Texas and California.

For other preppers, just having a home that is “off the grid” is not nearly good enough.  For many, having an underground bunker is the best way to be prepared for when a major catastrophe strikes.  And without a doubt, bunker sales have been skyrocketing in recent years.  The same article quoted above reported that one bunker company down in Utah has actually seen sales nearly triple each year

Business is also good over at Ultimate Bunker, based on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, where sales have nearly tripled each year since the company opened shop four years ago. General contractor Mike Peters got into bunkers (literally, folks!) after watching the TV show “Doomsday Preppers” on the National Geographic Channel. He was convinced he could build them better.

His underground shelters start at $59,000 and go way up from there. His top-of-the-line model has areas for raising rabbits and fish. The majority of his sales are in the $500,000 range.

Other Americans that are deeply concerned about what is coming in our immediate future are taking a different approach.  All across the country, those that belong to the Patriot Movement are taking the plunge into politics and are trying to reform the system from the inside.  The following is an excerpt from an article that was posted by the Guardian earlier today…

Joseph Rice’s manner is a long way from militia stereotypes. The Patriot Movement leader does not present as a crazed gun nut, nor as a blowhard white supremacist. He’s genial, folksy, and matter-of-fact in laying out his views. But talk to him for long enough, and time and again the Patriot Movement leader returns to what really drives him: land.

Rice is running for Josephine county commissioner in south-west Oregon, and believes that the federal government’s current role in land management is illegitimate and even tyrannical.

His campaign is well-advertised around the county and appears well-organised. His growing experience in organising Patriot groups and community watch organisations has polished his skills in retail politics. He’s clearly done a lot of work to make himself politically palatable to conservative rural voters.

There are yet other preppers that reject both of these approaches.  To these individuals, there is absolutely no hope left for America and they feel the best approach for them and their families is to leave the country for good and never look back.  I personally know several families that have left the U.S. in recent years, and there are many others that are considering it.

And I do find it very interesting to note that the mainstream media is reporting that record numbers of Americans are renouncing their citizenship in early 2016…

It seems crazy to call it the ‘New Normal’, but once again, record numbers of Americans are renouncing citizenship. Every three months, the Treasury Department publicly names individuals who renounced. It is surely more about FATCA, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act enacted in 2010,  than it is about politics. Still, numbers are flying, with one poll saying that 1 in 4 Americans would consider leaving if Trump is elected. Others claim they will leave if Hillary is elected.

Of course it isn’t just preppers that are getting out while the getting is good.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the city of Chicago lost approximately 3,000 millionaires last year alone.  Many among the elite have the same kinds of concerns that many ordinary Americans do, and they are relocating while they are still able to do so.

In the end, I cannot tell you which approach is best for you and your family.  And there are some that are mixing all three approaches.  For example, there are some people out there that have already moved their families away from the big cities, but they are still trying to make a difference the best way that they can, but they are also ready to leave the country entirely when that becomes necessary.

And of course there are many others out there that wonder what all of the fuss is about.  Millions upon millions of Americans still have complete and total faith in the system and in our leadership, and they believe that the greatest days of America are still ahead of us.

So what about you?

What do you think?

I’m poor and don’t have the means to buy a place that’s off the grid. My home is paid for, but it’s not worth much. I’d be surprised if I could get $30k for it. (That’s not a typo. That’s 30 thousand.) I have some emergency food that I began acquiring a few years ago, but a lot of it is getting close to its “best by” date, which concerns me. I have a significant position in precious metals, but they’re currently worth much less than I paid for them (in dollar terms). I believe I put too much of my savings into precious metals. I should have kept more cash.

I really don’t care what happens. I am a Christian. I’m looking forward to the next life.

Sounds like you have your priorities in order and you are doing the best that you can to be prepared for the difficult times ahead. Keep your focus on Jesus and draw near to him by reading his word and prayer daily. You will be taken care of by him, to fulfill that which God has planned for your life.
Understand that whatever happens is God’s will and he is in control of all things. The harder that things get to survive – the larger the miracles that will happen to those who are true followers of Christ.
For most canned goods, the best buy date can be extended by several years. Acidic foods like tomato sauce can start to eat into the can after the bb date. The Bible teaches us to give and maybe giving some of the food to charity that is near expiration dates would be a good option. We need to give in times like these.
God will Bless you but keep true to his word.

        Thanks for the kind words.

Michael Malachi said it best, you are doing the right things. God Bless you both.

So true! Everything He allows works for the best for those who love Him and are called to His purposes. Romans 8:28, and “The Lord does good to all”. How we treat others and standing up for the truth in love and humility, pointing others to Christ, Christians are being offered opportunities to share Jesus in word and deed. Whether we live or die, we are His, and our circumstances can be turned into a wonderful witness to the character and power of God.

I am also broke and cannot afford to buy prepping property either. So if things start to get drastically worse soon, all I’m going to do is move to rural Southwest Florida immediately and just settle without a house temporarily. I’d rather be homeless in paradise than live in a home in a hellhole. I will propably live on the beach or in the woods for a while.

The best days for America are behind us. We have seen our better days! Not a doom and gloomer, facts are facts. Take off the rose colored glass and see it for what it is. This country is in trouble. You can’t walk, talk or sit without offending someone. If we don’t rise up as God fearing citizens and stand for the princilples that our country was founded on, there is no hope for America. I am a blood bought child of the King. I serve the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That America, is what has made us who we are today and by letting others turn us deaf, dumb and blind is the reason we are going to fall.

Trump will make America great again!

At least its worth a try instead of drearily prepping for some imagined doomsday like so many religious kooks on this site.

      • William Lutz

Trump will not “Make America Great Again”. He will just accelerate the decay of our Republic and probably start World War 3. Don’t take his slogan at face value.

      • Kevin Calegari

This country will be anniahilated for its in numerable sins; its atheistic mindset, immorality and murder of its unborn which alone cries for vengeance. Peace and prosperity will not be found presidents but Jesus Christ alone.

      • Tziggy

Religious kooks. Of course… At least we have enlightened intellectuals like you to keep us on track.

Those who are leaving and renouncing their citizenship, from what I read, have ample resources to make it happen. For most it ain’t possible. Most will ride this bronco one way or another.

A lot of others have no idea what’s coming and they won’t listen to anything I try and tell them. They get agitated if I try to warn them about the dollar because in their mind I’m just an alarmist with a tin-foil hat. Nothing is going to happen.

These same people can tell you everything about the latest movie.

I’m 37 and have been preparing since I was 30 and Obama came into office. Guns, ammo, food, and essentials. Have added to my hunting skills every passing year and another thing that should be mentioned is that one of the most overlooked necessities is building strong friendships/community with people close to you. If things get really bad you won’t be able to survive alone. Two are better than one. A group is better than just two.

    • Brewer55

I could not have said it better — very true; very sad. I never thought I’d live to see America turned into what it has turned into. The 2 Agenda movies on DVD spell it out in great detail. My generation, and the one before me, were asleep at the wheel. We have long since crossed the Rubicon.

  • Lazarovic

Be prepared. That was the Boy Scout motto when I was a kid, and its stuck with me ever since. It’s wise to prepare.
Get involved with politics to the point you’re comfortable; vote, at the very least. Write letters, petition, use social media. Raise your voice to be heard. Run for office if you’re so inclined.
Moving “off the grid” is not an option for most, if you can, do it, if not, prepare where you are. Work with your neighbors, help and support each other. Cooperation is better than conflict every time. Neighborhood watch, neighborhood militia, same thing.
Finally, united we stand, divided we fall; don’t be a divider.
Peace. Forgive me, brothers and sisters, if I’ve ever offended you with my opinions.

How can you buy land when the government charges sky high property taxes?

    • Philosopher

Buy land in a rural area and don’t over improve it.

  • Jen Potters

For me personally, I have been putting my trust in my the Lord first. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. At the end of the day God is in control no matter what happens. Second, I have been aggressively paying off the final amount of debt that I have just in case there is a financial collapse or major shift in the way currency is handled. That way I have freed up income and peace of mind in regards to finances and NO DEBT. I have also looking into the possibility of paying cash for a small home out in the boondocks to get away from the large city that I live in. I notice everyday that even without a food or currency shortage the lawlessness is insane. The police sirens have going off more than usual. The crimes have shot up. I do not feel safe. I want to leave the city before it is too late.

      Your wisdom is commendable.

I don’t think it’s a good idea. For what it would cost to relocate abroad, one would probably be better off spending the money to move to the American Redoubt (Montana, Wyoming, Idaho). I would move to that area if I had the means to do so.

  • Abe

I for one hope one in four leave the country if Trump is elected! Roseyand Barbara, you promised you’d leave! Especially the Obot Hitlery supporters! Just that thought gives me a little more optimism from my pessimism!

I thought about leaving, and even had an offer to relocate with some notable expats. But that was 7 years ago! You can still get out of the USA, but after you give Barry half of the crap you have of any value!

I do know Little Mac or Mittens wouldn’t of changed a thing! I loathe them as much as Barry the Fairy and Hitlery! Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The sheeple are so polarized, yet still support the same BS!! Like that idiot Pelosi says a bail out for them crooked banksters of 3/4 of a trillion bucks was to much, and the 6 months later when our Piece Prize winner was in “OUR” house 3/4 of a trillion bucks wasn’t enough!

  • Taking care of business!

The ONLY “prepping” needs be done is repenting and coming to the open-arms of the Lord Jesus. Considering the acceleration of end-time events, I suspect the Lord will be calling-out His bride any moment.

    • iris

Yes, you’re so right, thank you! Where we spend eternity is at stake. No one can save but Jesus, but we can point others to Him. The Holy Spirit does the rest, and finishes what He starts in those who put their hope and trust in Him for the forgiveness of sin and new life with Him. We won’t control what happens to us, but we will be safe forever with Him.

      • Taking care of business!

And thank you for your kind reply, my sister in Christ, and the blessed, appreciated addition. Amen! God bless you and yours. In the Lord Jesus’ love, (Allen) Tcob!.

One in four Americans just may leave this country if Hillary isn’t indicted proving this Nation is beyond repair.
