Snowpocalypse - Photo by E4117If this is how crazy people are going to become when a big snowstorm arrives, what do you think they are going to do when a real disaster strikes? Washington D.C. is about to be hit by one of the worst blizzards that it has ever experienced this weekend, and people are already beginning to panic. It is being projected that there could be up to 30 inches of snow in some areas, and wind gusts of up to 60 miles an hour will cut visibility to almost nothing and will make travel next to impossible. Along the east coast, more than 50 million people could be affected by this storm, and many of them don’t have a lot of food and supplies on hand. So we have been seeing things like bread, milk and batteries fly off of store shelves all throughout the region, and at this point many stores are already completely wiped out.

Without a doubt, this is going to be a very powerful storm. In fact, some are suggesting that it could potentially be the worst one that D.C. has seen in all of modern history. If you live in the area, you probably already know that the National Weather Service has officially issued a blizzard warning

The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has issued a Blizzard Warning… which is in effect from 3 PM Friday to 6 am EST Sunday. The blizzard watch is no longer in effect.

* Hazard types… heavy snow and wind with blowing and drifting snow Friday afternoon through Saturday night. Sleet may mix with the snow Friday night into Saturday morning east of Interstate 95 before changing back to all snow by Saturday afternoon.

* Accumulations… snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches in the eastern suburbs of Washington DC… and 24 to 30 inches in the western suburbs. The city of Washington DC is expected to receive around 24 inches.

* Timing… heavy snow will develop late Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday night. Conditions are expected to deteriorate Friday afternoon with the heaviest snow… strongest winds… and potential life threatening conditions expected Friday night through Saturday.

* Impacts… heavy snow and blowing snow will cause dangerous conditions and will be a threat to life and property. Travel is expected to be severely limited if not impossible during the height of the storm Friday night and Saturday. Visibility will be reduced to near zero at times in whiteout conditions.

I once lived in the region, and normally people would start freaking out and raiding the stores about 12 hours in advance. But this time it started happening two or three days ahead of time. The following comes from Reuters

Grocery store shelves were being stripped of bread, milk and other essentials as millions of residents in the storm’s path prepared to hunker down for a wintry weekend. Consumer watchdogs warned against illegal price gouging for such essentials as generators, batteries, flashlights and hotel lodging.

Lots of pictures of empty grocery store shelves have already been posted to Twitter. Here is one example…

And here is another example from the ABC News affiliate in Washington…

To me, this kind of event gives us hints of what life will be like when we do see a truly historic national emergency. When people start to panic, they start hoarding the things that they think they will need, and food and basic supplies very quickly disappear from store shelves.

What that day arrives, will you be prepared?

Personally, my wife and I have been preparing for years, and I even helped write an entire book about prepping. But moments like this should cause all of us to really take another look at how prepared we really are.

You see, the truth is that you aren’t just preparing for yourself and your family. When things get really crazy, close friends and members of your extended family that have not bothered to do anything to prepare are going to come knocking on your door.

When that happens, what are you going to do?

I know that I could not send them away, but I know that there are preppers out there that plan to do exactly that.

Since I cannot turn away close friends and members of my extended family, I have to make preparations for them as well. All of them are going to need food, water, and basic supplies, and my hope is that we will have enough for all of them.

In addition to food and water, there are many other items that we all need to be thinking about storing away right now while we still can. These are some of the things that I suggested in a previous article

Warm Clothing

Extra Flashlights

First Aid Kits

Duct Tape

A Shovel

A Tent

Mylar Blankets

Body Armor

An Axe

A Can Opener

A Battery-Powered Radio

Extra Batteries

A Fire Extinguisher

A Sewing Kit

A Tool Kit

Comfortable Shoes Or Hiking Boots

A Map Of Your Area

A Compass

Sleeping Bags

A Camp Stove

An LED Headlamp

Heirloom Seeds

Wood Socks, Sweaters And Mittens

Personal Hygiene Items

Ziplock Bags

A Watch Or Some Other Way To Tell Time

Extra Copies Of Your Financial Records

Spare Glasses

Prescription Medications

Perhaps you think that I am being overly dramatic.

But just imagine what your life would be like if you had to endure a major disaster that lasted for months or even years without being able to resupply yourself at the stores.

Would you be able to survive?

I find it very interesting that the winter storm that is about to slam into the D.C. region has been given a name. It is being called “Jonas“, which is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name “Jonah”.

Jonah, of course, was the Biblical prophet that was sent to warn Ninevah that the judgment of God was about to come to that city.

So could the fact that a historic storm named “Jonas” is about to hit Washington D.C. have any special significance?

Please tell us what you think by posting a comment below…

What amazed me about most of the grocery store pictures. How many of the empty shelves, had contained things that required refrigeration. But then again, it is the D.C. area. As to Jonas burying D.C. in snow.It does carry some interesting symbolism.

    • awb22

only insofar as there was an OT prophet named Jonas. Otherwise, nah, not so much. Man gave the storm a name. When God gives it one, you won’t be digging out of it, archaeologists will be digging you out of it.

  • winnie the pooh

I don’t believe that if Jonah was to walk the city of Washington today that the city would turn away from all the deceitful ways that our seat of government has done to the citizens of the USA. Maybe this is the beginning of the “Great Awaking” that America needs to turn towards the Lord. When just one storm and a few feet of snow will stop a nation what do you really believe will happen when God judges this country. Now is the time to prepare to lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven not on earth. Yes, we need food and supplies to survive here on earth, and because of the way the times are now, we need to protect ourselves and our love ones, we also need to remember who is in control. Don’t wait till it is to late.

    • Joan Camara

You got it winnie!!! I surely can’t wait! Oh, but how bad the 7 years of tribulation is gonna be!

      • Jim Davis

        Cuckoo alert!

    • desert n

i think the extra snow dump is because the man made emissions cause a very slight increase in atmospheric temperatures in northern hemisphere. this causes more evaporation of ocean water so more snow

  • watchmannonthewall

You are probably right about the symbolisim contained in naming the storm Jonas. The more I study Scripture, the more amazed I am at the little nuanced details that emerge to let us know/understand very specific things about the Elohim we serve and how He warns us in a multitude of ways about the direction we are headed. Elohim is His Hebrew title that reveals Him as the Creator and ultimate Judge of His creation.
Just think back to the uproar over the nation’s leader saying we are not a christian nation anymore. If one had really sat back and contemplated all the things that had been done by the national leaders over the past 35-40 years, and the courts, one should not be able to escape drawing the same conclusion, if we were to judge ourselves by the standards, the plumb line, set by God in His Word. Yet many immediately responded in states of denial and anger instead of asking themselves if it was true. We should have repented and confessed the sins of the nation! Do we deserve His anger?
Think back to the huge storm along the east coast that happened just the weekend prior to our leader’s reelection. Was that a warning to the nation about their vote? I always thought it was! These are not random events. They are judgments tied together by a Creator who is trying to get the attention of His people. He is not speaking to those who do not belong to Him, though they can listen if they decide to! He that hath ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Bride!
The Scripture is not written to the unsaved. It is a book about a covenant made between Him and His people in which we have agreed to be obedient to the terms of the King and in which He has promised to be our Salvation, our Yeshua, if we live by those terms. The choice is ours! The outcome for bad choices is apparent, but many are blinded.

      jeez, you bible thumpers,
lately the DC area gets a blizzard every 6-7 years, last one was in 2010

      • awb22

what does that have to do with anything?

        • Gay Veteran

learn to read, Sodomite Obsessed Polly

          • awb22

you didn’t answer the question, sodomite.

          • Gay Veteran

Sodomite Obsessed Polly needs to ask politely

          • awb22

so, you got nothing. Why is that no surprise?

  • Mike

Well if it comes,we may all be in big trouble because not only your friends know you have food, but those who will split your throat..

    • Joan Camara

Survival of the fittest…and the smartest! And the ones that are prepared for anything, will survive!

  • Mike

    Sorry slit.

  • Jim Davis

The District of Criminals deserves much worse than a snowstorm. That might actually be fun with snowmen and snowball fights and all. I hope God’s got a better punishment than that in store for them. I mean come on big fella, really, that’s all you got?

    • Gay Veteran

you forget about the ordinary people in DC

      • Joan Camara

yup, jim did! I feel the same about what he said about dc….I hope they get the worst! But I do hope the regular folks will help take care of the poor and sick at this time, when caring will be needed the most!

      • Jim Davis

The elite DC establishment slime can’t function without all of their “ordinary people” worker ants on their payroll so to hell with them too!

        • Gay Veteran

hey Einstein, not everyone in DC works for the government

          • awb22

no, but they’re the largest employer

          • Jim Davis

It’s a company town. If you’re not working directly for the feds, your’re working for a contractor or one of their subcontractors.

          • Gay Veteran

            really, you know this personally?

      • awb22

is there such a thing? run along now, and let the adults talk.

        • Gay Veteran

awwww, Sodomite Obsessed Polly thinks everyone in DC works for the government

          • awb22

            you’re confused.

  • What going to happen when a real disaster strikes America and people literally lose it? Marshall Law in the United States. Because a majority of the American people will not have the knowledge or understanding of what is happening during a major crisis in the United States and lack the resources of shelter, food, water, and sanitation, American cities will become uninhabitable. This will cause mass migrations of people out of the cities, and the entire nation itself will erupt into insurrection and civil violence. The risk of catastrophic loss will be very high. In response to this, leaders in Washington have been making preparations to implement martial law in the United States by issuing executive orders, and passing legislation that will enable the government to take control of the nation’s infrastructure, militarize police, confiscate guns, and build concentration camps around the country that it will use to round up, incarcerate, and execute American citizens without due process of law. That’s what is going to happen when a real crisis comes to America.

    • Joan Camara

Noooo, when something major happens, the elite are gonna hide in their bunkers! The rest of us are going to try to survive….it’s gonna be survival of the fittest, and the smartest! I and many other smart people are already doing the smart thing, and getting prepared. There’s not enough military to take care of us billions at one time. If it’s something like a virus, or an emp…the military force is gonna cut in half or more! The elite are gonna go hide, believe me.

  • Gay Veteran

“…So could the fact that a historic storm named “Jonas” is about to hit Washington D.C. have any special significance?….”

    • awb22

only that it was given a name, by man.

  • Lazarovic

Be prepared; always good advice. Be prepared for winter storms, spring storms, summer and autumn storms, earthquakes, volcanos, tsunami, forest fires, loss of electrical power from multiple sources including natural or manmade EMP, floods, riots, nuclear power plant meltdowns, chemical spills, pandemics, loss of water/sewage service and marauding criminals. To be prepared is wise, and shows you love your family. Always have life insurance and a will too. So get prepared, and remember to treat others as you want to be treated. Peace.

  • One more thing….head SOUTH and make sure your Spanish is on point!

  • VigilanteCaregiver

In Utah, this kind of storm is normal in the mountain areas. Could I survive? Always have.

Besides, this kind of snow up at Monte Cristo and taking the canyon road with AWD at 70 MPH is a thrill like no other!!

Folks not preparing is what happens when they firmly believe others are supposed to provide for their normalcy. Hopefully, this will be a wake up for many of ’em.

Calling the storm “Jonas”… in the story both Jonas and the people of Nineveh learned their lessons; Jonas the hard way.

  • Joan Camara

I can just see these other countries that have HAARP, throwing this on washington d.c. and laughing. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone mad at us, would do this. Russia and China, and a few other countries have haarp, and that’s no surprise to the ones that know what’s going on. I’m sorry for the poor people and the ones that have to go to the shelters…but I hope certain higher ups are writhing mad and suffering!

  • Nimadan

I have repeatedly heard various people (including Michael) refer to studies which estimated that there would be widespread cannibalism within two weeks of a collapse of the food distribution system. Never once have I heard anyone actually give the NAMES of these studies. I have tried searching for them on my own and gotten nowhere.

Anybody out there have a lead on this?

    • awb22

the good there is there’s an obesity epidemic ;)

  • Mike

It all will go down hill fast, you have a gun someone will have a bigger gun,you have a bigger gun someone has a bomb..let’s face it its not going to be good. For the average Joe,the sick the elderly.

Even though we do need to be good stewards of the planet, and could do a lot better, I agree that it’s pseudo science, SantosGarcia, and yes, we could be looking at some judgement for these reasons, and many others not listed. I think He’s trying to get our attention. It may be too late for our country, but we are still made up of individuals, and where there’s life, there’s hope.

  • Peter Antonocci

and now the storm has passed, and everything is back to normal. who hasn’t got some canned goods laying around that will last at least a few days? i have several months of food and water, everyone should. but look at the huge list they are trying to sell you…guess what, everything there can be bought from advertisers on this website! this is just a capitalist website, making money by selling advertising to the people who can sell you the stuff they are trying to scare you into buying. every article this site posts is something you should be scared of and gives reasons to buy from their advertisers. this is not a news site…it’s a good little gig.
