Is It Wrong For Women To Be Addicted To Sexually Explicit Romance Novels?

Romance Novel - Public DomainAbout a billion and a half dollars will be spent on romance novels in the United States this year.  These novels will outsell the categories of “sci-fi, mystery, and fantasy combined“, and they will account for more than half of all mass-market fiction paperbacks sold.  To say that they are popular would be a vast understatement.  Many of these novels are “clean”, innocent and even inspirational, but many others are extremely sexually explicit.  In America today, 64 percent of all Christian men and 15 percent of all Christian women admit that they have viewed pornography within the last month, and we correctly label this as a national moral crisis.  But are women that can’t get through a day without reading a sexually explicit romance novel that much different?

Today, I came across an article by a Christian wife and blogger named Chris Taylor, and I thought that I would share with you her perspective on this

I’d packed my current romance novel into my carry-on bag. As I reached into the bag to pull it out, I noticed that a man a few rows ahead of me was reading an adult magazine. I thought, “Oh, that’s just icky. Even if no one else sees the pictures, he is going to be sitting there feeling all aroused and thinking about sex around other people. Just gross.”

I looked at the book in my hand, and in one of those “God smacked me between the eyes” moments, I realized that the man looking at the magazine with naked women was no different than my reading this book in the presence of others.

The sexy romance novel was my version of porn.

I pulled out my crossword puzzle book instead.

As a society, we consider men that look at “adult material” to be “icky”, and for good reason, but scientists have found that women that read sexually explicit romance novels also experience an “addicting chemical release”

According to author of “Finding the Hero in your Husband” and psychologist Dr. Julia Slattery, there are similarities between what happens to a man when he views pornography and what happens to a woman when she reads a romance novel.

“There is a neurochemical element with men and visual porn, but an emotional element with women and these novels,” she wrote.

Women are more stimulated by romance than sex, so they read romantic stories (and they don’t have to be explicit to work) they can experience the same addicting chemical release as men do.

There are some women out there that read one or two of these novels a day.

Once again, there are certainly many of these novels that are fun and innocent, but a growing percentage of them are very similar to 50 Shades of Grey.

As I have written about previously, 50 Shades of Grey is a book that glorifies sexual abuse and the BDSM lifestyle.  The novel contains extraordinarily graphic descriptions of BDSM sex acts, and it is not the type of thing that anyone should ever read under any circumstances.

Shockingly, one survey discovered that 9 percent of all Christian women in America have read at least the first book in the series…

A faith-based polling firm found that “9 percent of practising Christian women in America have read at least the first book, which is roughly the same as the percentage of all women who have read 50 Shades across the country.”

And that is just one sexually explicit romance novel out of the thousands and thousands that are available.

Overall, it has been estimated that close to 70 percent of all women in the United States read at least one romance novel each year.  The following comes from Lea Z. Singh

But according to Laurie Kahn, producer of the documentary film Love Between the Covers: “More than 70 million people in the USA alone read at least one romance novel per year, and most of them read many more.”

The US Census for 2015 shows there are 100 million women between 18 and 64 years old living in the United States. If Kahn’s number is correct, and assuming that the majority of those “70 million people” are women, then up to 70 percent of American women are covertly consuming literary pornography.

Once again, I don’t want to be accused of dumping all romance novels into the same category.

Many are as clean and innocent as a typical Hallmark movie.

But without a doubt, others are absolutely teeming with lust and perversion.  If many husbands actually knew what their wives were reading they would be completely floored.

We need to be very careful about what we feed our minds, because it determines the kind of people that we are going to become.  In my new book entitled The Rapture Verdict, I warn about the moral collapse of America and what is happening to our nation as a result.  Just electing the right political leaders will not solve the problems that we are facing as a nation.  Rather, the key is getting our hearts right before a holy God.

And I don’t want anyone to think that I am just pointing a finger at women in this article.

As I mentioned above, one survey found that 64 percent of all Christian men were willing to admit that they have looked at “adult material” within the last 30 days.  A different survey discovered that 68 percent of all Christian men view this stuff on a regular basis.

That means that two-thirds of the church in America is addicted to filth!

In this article I have focused on women and romance novels, but let us never, ever forget the raging national crisis that we have with our men.  Until we get this fixed, we have absolutely zero chance of turning America in the right direction.

Good job, people! Get it up to 100%!!

Part of the reason women like stories is probably because of their hormones.

It seems like since I dumped testosterone (because the males in my family have the complete balding condition) I’ve become a bit more interested in certain female things and less interested in some male things like shooting guns and explosions. Readers digest type stories seem to be more appealing without testosterone. If I took estrogen to avoid a fracture when I’m old or to stop my heat sensitivity I wonder if that would cause my brain to shift even more toward female interests?

Without libido hormones, looking at women in men’s magazines would be like looking at Catster magazine. To a eunuch (no HRT) an undressed female is mostly just a body but anything sexual just doesn’t register or seems strange.

Obviously these books are pornographic, not in the visual sense, but in the mind of the reader. Anything that leads one to lust is not of God. There is not much difference between these books and traditional pornography. They both strike an arousal and the lustful thoughts within the one partaking, which, many times leads to more sin.

I wasn’t prepared for that. That is seriously messed up.

What is your wife’s favorite romance novel?

  • DJohn1

You have now exposed the deep dark secret of the females of our species.
Yes they get off on the description of sex. Just as males get off on a visual vulnerability of the image of the human female in various states of dress and undress.
In the 70s women got up on a stage in costumes better suited for a beach. To attract the attention of males was simple. They had to show vulnerability in their emphasis on undress. They did this by glimpses of their breasts in various stages and close to the nipples. Some used clothing coming near to off to do the same thing.
A woman in a short-shorts drew more attention than a person completely nude. There is an actual psychological study on the use of vulnerability imagery in the art of the dance.
Playboy pioneered not only the nude bodies but the art of seduction with partially nude people both male and female.
There is a reason why a professional photographer was able to capture a sexual image or images of a female and receive a lot of payroll to do so. They were actually implanting subliminals.
If you go to any public library in the country it is full of pornographic descriptions in the cheaper novels displayed. And they are described as a category of Romance novels.
Some women have made a fortune describing the sex act in all its various forms in these novels.
To this day, subliminals are a basic part of professional advertising. There is a reason behind the back page of a magazine. They pay up to 1 million or more dollars for just one month of a liquor ad on the back page of some magazines. As far back as I can remember, 1950s advertising was using this method to the cost of 100,000 dollars per month.
That innocent looking silly ad on your television is designed not for your conscious mind but your subconscious mind. And it is often used with sexual overtone in the background.
My point is that all of us are being seduced by what goes on behind the scenes in advertising which leads to other pre-programmed thoughts such as the porno industry and the Romance novel industry.
What I am saying is certain people have become experts at seducing the subconscious mind under the conscious mind.
The porno industry is simply a symptom of what is going on in all our public media including cable which has certain adult type entertainment only available on cable, not over the air waves.
We are all bombarded with this information daily. There is big dollar amounts involved.

There is something of significance here that has not been touched. Pornography weather it is words in a romance novel, photographs in magazine, or actions in a video they are addictive. But here is the kicker. If you are one that partakes of the forbidden fruit then you may
be interested to know that the addiction of this is not just a spiritual corruption but it is a destroyer of a families and society. Let me explain. The hormones excreted in our bodies are good things given to us by God our creator. When we play with these hormones using a surrogate such as pornography we create a situations where we are exchanging an unnatural stimulation for something we would otherwise share with our spouse.

Even though one may consider reading a story or looking at images as natural it is not what God intended. Why is this bad? We begin to crave the pleasure gained by the surrogate. Then we realize we can have that pleasure on demand. Now we are addicted to this pleasure and look forward to our next encounter with it. This addiction is the
exact same addiction someone with a substance abuse or a gambling problem have. This addictions starts to drive us because we crave it. We begin to look forward to the next pleasure session just like a drug addict does for their fix or a gambler does for their next game.

Now here is the coup de gras. When one becomes addicted to the rush of hormones and always looking to satisfy the pleasure gained from the surrogate. That same person becomes ineffective in the physical relationship with their spouse. They cannot gain the same pleasure they desire with their spouse that they have learned to evoke
with the surrogate and the physical romance dies. Did you ever wonder why the men need Viagra to have sex? It is because the surrogate, the fantastical dream that it is, with the pleasure gained through the fantasy and personal stimulation far surpassed the real relationship with their spouse that when they engage with their spouse there is little to know pleasure gained in comparison to the surrogate and therefore things just do not work because the real pleasure comes through the surrogate fantasy and not the spouse. This same thing goes on with the women and her own fantasies from the novels. The real love affair with their spouse will never stand up to the fancy and now there is little reason for them to stick together.

We now have at least two generations that have grown up with
the pornographic addiction. This has created a society that is violent, aggressive, and sexual fantasy focused. Look at all the rape and other perversions that are so prominent in our society today. This is the root of our decay. Not only is it the decay of relationships but it is the decay of families. I know of a family my children use to play with that has divorced. The mother took the two girls and the father took the boy. Why because the boy I am sure wanted to keep his pornographic source his father provided him. He has been addicted since first
grade. What is to come of his life?

We are today with pornography where we were decades ago
with tobacco and the denial of the addiction. Everyone involved in the purveyance of pornography subconsciously understand and count on the addiction to continue to profit from the suckers trying to get their fix. If you have fallen into the trap, get out. I am trying to keep out of it. I was caught in it but had my “God smack me in the heard” moment. It is a struggle but I have done it so can you.

The problem is an increasing number of males have autism spectrum disorder thanks to vaccines or our parents eating GMOs so there is no chance of us ever getting a wife. A single male has a higher testosterone level so if he can’t get a girlfriend the “surrogate” is his girlfriend and the addiction gets worse and worse.

What is sad about that is that people are spending so little money on books.
I think that explains anti-intellectualism and the rise of Donald Trump along with general idiocracy

So the author of this blog says that a declining birth rate and total fertility rate is horrible, horrible news but inter course is horrible, horrible, news.

    Which is it?

I know people that read 1-2 biology textbooks a day. (1st year medical students who procrastinate) :)

Anyone who feels romance books are morally wrong are free to not read any, but they don’t have a right to tell others to not read it. To be honest, the country and the world has bigger problems than romance novels.

Apparently this is the THING TO END THE WORLD for today. LOL. This site has become a parody of itself.

Yes, there’s more important things to talk about. One man is facing the death penalty for killing a cop during a no-knock raid of his house!!! The police did not identify themselves as officers!

He was defending his house against invaders! Now the government is going to kill him!!!!

Twilight or 50 shades of Gay are pretty darn retarded, anyone that likes that kind of crap has a serious problem.

Right on Michael! I have been looked at as strange because I’m not in the group of women at work who read these novels. I always ask myself if I would read this out loud to Jesus; if not I should’nt read it to myself.
The Bible states clearly in may places that this is dangerous ground. James 1:14 “But EVERY MAN IS

What does the Word of God say?

    Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

    That’s the answer for Christians…

I know they mutilate newborn girls, which may reduce the pleasure they might have. Do they think that would be a way to subjugate females or perhaps keep them safer by reducing the likelihood of promiscuous behavior later on in life? The men can have up to four wives legally and I forget how many concubines. Oh, but he has to remain faithful to his four wives, lol.

  • TheLulzWarrior

It is wrog when these romance novels are pure trash like Twilight or 50 shades of Gay.

People are driven by hormones just as much as animals as far as reproductive desire goes and also most attraction to women.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things…practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
