America Became A Lot Less Christian During The Presidency Of Barack Obama

Barack Obama State Of The Union - Public DomainIn 2006, Barack Obama famously said that “we are no longer just a Christian nation“, and after the last eight years that is now more true than ever. The Pew Research Center has just released a major report entitled “How America Changed During Barack Obama’s Presidency“, and what struck me the most about the report was the fact that it showed that the United States became a lot less Christian while Obama was in the White House. Of course this trend did not begin under Obama, but it seems to have accelerated during his presidency.

In particular, the percentage of Americans that have no religion at all is really growing rapidly. According to the report, “nones” now make up nearly a fourth of our entire population…

When it comes to the nation’s religious identity, the biggest trend during Obama’s presidency is the rise of those who claim no religion at all. Those who self-identify as atheists or agnostics, as well as those who say their religion is “nothing in particular,” now make up nearly a quarter of the U.S. adult population, up from 16% in 2007.

Christians, meanwhile, have fallen from 78% to 71% of the U.S. adult population, owing mainly to modest declines in the share of adults who identify with mainline Protestantism and Catholicism. The share of Americans identifying with evangelical Protestantism, historically black Protestant denominations and other smaller Christian groups, by contrast, have remained fairly stable.

And these numbers don’t just reflect a growing dissatisfaction with organized religion. The truth is that Americans are becoming less “spiritual” overall. Compared with 2007, fewer Americans believe in God, fewer Americans consider religion “to be very important in their lives”, fewer Americans pray daily, and fewer Americans attend religious services.

These trends are evident in all age groups, but the biggest shift is with Millennials. According to the report, 11 percent of the Silent Generation are “nones”, 17 percent of the Baby Boomers are “nones”, 23 percent of those in Generation X are “nones”, but an astounding 35 percent of all Millennials are “nones”.

As the older generations die off, America is changing, and not for the better.

The numbers are even more dramatic when you look at church attendance. According to a different Pew Research Center report, only 27 percent of all Millennials attend religious services on a weekly basis…

Millennials – especially the youngest Millennials, who have entered adulthood since the first Landscape Study was conducted – are far less religious than their elders. For example, only 27% of Millennials say they attend religious services on a weekly basis, compared with 51% of adults in the Silent generation. Four-in-ten of the youngest Millennials say they pray every day, compared with six-in-ten Baby Boomers and two-thirds of members of the Silent generation. Only about half of Millennials say they believe in God with absolute certainty, compared with seven-in-ten Americans in the Silent and Baby Boom cohorts. And only about four-in-ten Millennials say religion is very important in their lives, compared with more than half in the older generational cohorts.

And remember, that 27 percent figure includes all religions. When you take out all Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, etc. you probably have less than a quarter of all Millennials attending a church of some sort on a regular basis.

The implications that this has for church leadership in America are absolutely staggering. To a very large degree we are failing to reach an entire generation of Americans, and we are in great danger of being transformed into a “post-Christian society” like so many countries in Europe have become.

Of course these young adults that aren’t going to church still have a spiritual hunger, and often they are trying to fill that spiritual hunger in unusual ways.

For example, interest in witchcraft among young adults is absolutely soaring

The witching web world carries over into mortal life, too. Stores are popping up across the country, selling crystals, spell kits, and tarot cards. And K-Hole, the trend-forecasting firm responsible for inserting “normcore” into the pop culture lexicon, has anointed “mysticore” the zietgeistiest of current zeitgeists.

And its popularity isn’t just growing: It’s basically levitating. Alex Mar, author of the 2015 book Witches of America, estimates there are up to one million practitioners of witchcraft today around the US in big cities, tiny towns, and in the countryside. In other words: Witches are everywhere. “I started to feel that you could toss a pebble in this country and hit a witch,” she says.

Even if they don’t understand the spiritual hunger inside of them, most people will instinctively try to fill that hunger in some way. And most of our young adults have decided that church is not the answer, and that means that those in charge of leading the church in America need to start asking some hard questions.

It seems clear that much of what the church in America is doing is simply not working. Often we get so caught up with our plans and our programs that we miss the bigger picture. An entire generation that desperately needs Jesus Christ is slipping through our fingers, but most church leaders seem to think that conducting business as usual is the answer.

And as our young adults move away from the Christian faith, that has tremendous implications for our political future as well. Today, 50 percent of Millennials consider themselves to be Democrats, and only 34 percent of them consider themselves to be Republicans.

If Millennials had been the only ones voting in the recent election, Donald Trump would have been defeated in a historic landslide.

But Hillary Clinton would have never been the Democratic nominee in the first place, because Millennials greatly preferred Bernie Sanders over her.

Unless something changes, this is where America is going.

Because one thing is absolutely certain – older generations of Americans will continue to die off, and younger Americans will take their places as the future leaders of this country.

It has been said that history belongs to those that are courageous enough to change it.

We desperately need a spiritual renewal in this nation, because right now we are heading for a very, very bleak future.

Which came first? The people walking away from the Church. Or the Churches walking away from God.In my experience, it is the later.

    • watchmannonthewall

Problem is, they don’t know they walked away!! They think they are still in the same place as the apostles, though they live entirely opposite them!!!!!!!!!

      • PK Hodges

You so beautifully described delusion, my friend!

      • K

You may well be correct, for some of them. My experience with pastors, I have had this discussion with. They start off with an earthly excuse, followed by my pointing out the true results of their actions, or lack thereof. At a certain point they have all averted their eyes, and mumbled something along the lines of,”They do not see it that way.” So I believe some are aware, that they commit error. But lack the conviction to stand up to a senior member in the denomination.

        • watchmannonthewall

They need to study the scriptures.
“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, “If a person sins UNINTENTIONALLY in any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and commits any of them…he shall bring a sin offering for the sin he has committed,” (Lev. 4:2-3)
Yeshua said, agreeing with the OT, “And the slave who knew his Master’s will and did not get ready [for His return] or act in accordance with His will, shall receive many lashes, but the one who did not know it and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but a few.” (Luke 12:47-48)
So, whether it is done in ignorance or done deliberately, it is still sin. The difference is the resulting discipline. It seems they are not ignorant once it has been pointed out to them.
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb. 10:31) “For our God is a consuming fire.” (Heb. 12:29)

      • Paul Patriot

Yes sir. The delusional apostacy is upon us in full swing now.

Hard to find a “christian” church today in America preaching the full counsel of God, and not so focused on keeping the money flowing to support the plethora of programs and paying off huge morytgage debt, and making sure the preaching is PC enough as to not endanger their tax exempt status.

Jesus is done! For me, Allah and Muhammad are now my leaders. Muhammad stated the following:

“We owe absolute loyalty, reverence, and integrity to our only true creator, Allah. Y’all shall devote your life to the Quran, literally live by its commands, and make genuine sacrifices to please our dear Allah. We must follow the five pillars accordingly, pray, avoid the dirty flesh of swine, and abstain from the sin of alcohol. Furthermore, you shall fully submit to the Muslim patriarch’s wishes. Women must dress discreetly and cover her body, thereby demonstrating true faithfulness to her devout husband. In essence, they must be controlled and subdued by their husbands in respect to our great religion.

Those who dare question or reject the tenets and objectives of Islam, shall be judged, persecuted and severely punished. In other words, be subjected to the fire of hell without mercy. We must not permit blasphemy toward Allah, and highly encourage others to live up to his great expectations. Allah is the only superior deity.”

    Now that’s my religion!

This message will not preach in Christianity!! More to follow!

      John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

      John 3:36
Her who believes in the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but, the wrath of God abides in him

      Acts 4:12 (referring to Jesus)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

      • Joan Camara

Thank You Paul! William needs to know that Jesus is his only savior….I like William to show me where in the Koran, that it says Mohummed made the stars, sun, moon, the earth, the first humans, the animals, the oceans, etc..
        I know he can’t!

    • Joan Camara

Allah himself is described as “the best of schemers” (3:54, 8:30, 10:21)

Quran (8:12) – “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their HEADS and strike off every fingertip of them”

“When you encounter those [infidels] who deny [Islam] then strike [their] necks” (Qur’an sura 47, verse 4)

Christians are among the “worst of creatures” – Quran 98:6

“They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)

Satan must be SO proud of you, that you are ordered to behead, stab, rape, plunder, steal, lie, etc!

    • Joan Camara

Please show me verses in the koran, where Mohummed made everything in the heavens, and on the earth! Including the first humans!

    • iris

William, Jesus isn’t done at all. He, the Father and the Holy Spirit, together as one, (Elohim), created this world, and God has made one way for humanity to be reconciled to our Holy Creator, through His purposeful death and resurrection, through faith in Him. He is coming back soon, and He will rule His world in righteousness. There is no other name by which we can be saved.

Women dressing discreetly increases the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

      • Sue

Vitamin D source needs to be cholecalciferol not ergocalciferol, the second mentioned is synthetic.

        • vaxxed

Both forms are bad, but especially D2 (ergocalciferol). I’ve looked into D3 some hours and seems it doesn’t really benefit 4 bones compared to nature (sun striking skin). Also I think one has to be careful about sun striking same areas of body (like face & hands) for a lifetime because if someone doesn’t eat perfect (and maybe due to ozone layer depletion) it could lead to skin cancer. I think it’s best to change up what parts of body are exposed to sun. Like the natural cures book says expose your belly to sunshine (page title).

Also I’m learning about ph foods & osteoporosis (book Wheat Belly).
I’m a eunuch and HAVE to know about bone health & maybe I can get some trt backup shots or patches.
Anyway school has started so i can’t waste time here for awhile maybe weekends.

        • ethiopian eunuch

My new book Wheat Belly says a 9,400 -participant Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study found that females began to show declining bone density in the hip, vertebra, & femur at 25.

They must not get enough sunshine on their skin in Canada.
If I remember the cholecalciferol had something wrong with the electron transport chain? Maybe I didn’t study it for hours (can’t remember) but I learned enough to not want to buy D3.

      • Sue

I have the book and read the pages that you referenced. The vitamin D doesn’t seem to be the issue, however, the wheat is. The SAD diet is woefully based on wheat which I have chosen to avoid when possible. I also use a gluten/wheat free liquid cholecalciferol based product in an organic oil. It contains 2000iu per drop. My dose varies from 1-8 drops depending on what is going on in the body. Vitamin D also stimulates the thymus gland which is what controls the immune system. I have 3 chronic immune issues that are all related. I consume it in 20mls of clean fish oil or organic unrefined cold pressed coconut oil since fat soluble vitamins need healthy fats to be absorbed properly. I also use the coconut oil on my skin, most versatile oil ever.
Good luck in your journey to better health and body function.

        • ethiopian eunuch

The problem is the wheat is HYBRID.
Coconut is starting to go GMO so u need to be careful about that.
All the research I’ve done shows D3 doesn’t really help with bone density.
Bone density is really the only health thing I think about. Pill D3 might work for other issues but most supercentenarians don’t really eat many pills so pills are not the answer except for natural kinds like maybe fish, krill, juiced greens pill, etc.
Also there was a report about the fish oil might be going GMO!

          • Sue

I don’t use pills when they are not natural.

      • Joan Camara

Exactly….!! Anyone who thinks that they’ll gain “something” by blowing themselves up, while killing others…what else would you call that, besides the vilest, eviliest, demon?

      • You’ve just stated that God is a demon.

“Allah” is an Arabic word, translated to English as “God”.

        • Lorelei Vision

“Allah” and “God” are two different entities, Carrie. Christians and Muslims are NOT worshipping the same entity. Allah translates to god, but not God. See the difference????

We have a tough time defining what a Christian even is. The phrase concerning American Christianity, “they live as practical atheists” seems to apply. Easy to say the word Christian, but horrendously difficult to walk that walk. The scriptures claim there are “few” who find the narrow way while the crowds stroll the broad way to destruction. The Roman Catholics and Protestants believe that the other are not Christians. The conservatives and liberals claim the same things. The cults have made headway into Christendom and are generally accepted as Christians. The whole thing is a huge mess. There is so little clarity in all the noise of a postmodern era.

    • vaccines autism

And a lot claiming Christianity let their wives paint their face. Jezebel was the only woman in the Bible to wear paint and her eunuchs pushed her over & the dogs licked her blood just like the prophet said.

Allah….isn’t that the god of the “religion of peace” who’s “prophet” has left a 1400+ year trail of oppression, bloodshed, murder, and intolerance, whetrever this “religion of peace” gains the upper house?

    • “Allah” means “God”. It is the Arabic word for “God”, just as “Dieu” is the French word for “God” and “Dios” is the Spanish word and “Gott” is the German word. There is nothing special about the word “Allah”, other than its intended holiness.

I think the problem is often the way children are raised in today’s world.
We definitely have a neutral system of education that directs children toward “scientific” logic rather than religious belief. This system is basically humanistic and defines things as so which is a religious belief in and of itself.
The new religion is basically psychology. I think of psychology as a religion.
Until this new religious belief is addressed by the churches in a meaningful way, a lot of people will be lost.
WE, as Christians have to address the issues not avoid them. I see church after church that avoids even discussing those issues because they simply do not have competent answers to the questions asked.
Some avoid the issue by making it uncomfortable for someone to stay. This goes all the way back to at least the 50s.
In the modern times advertisers pay enormous amounts of money to a subject called mass psychology in advertising.
This is simply subliminal factors that determine what decisions you make when you go to a grocery or retail store.
When a TV show replays an advertisement over and over again this is manipulation of the brain of the average person. This is relevant to the discussion simply because those same factors determine whether a person goes to church or stays home. This manipulation is common and usually is child-like in its nature to appeal to the subconscious area of your mind. It crops up when you make decisions.
Another problem is churches basically are a business in the modern world. That they are now failing as a business is part of the main stream of the way we tithe or do not tithe as the decision is made.
I once confronted a minister about my wife leaving me in the mid 80s.
I quoted scripture. He said basically that if he confronted her about it he would lose her as a member of the church so he wouldn’t do it.
He basically said he could not afford to be a Christian without saying it. He was worshipping money not God.
At least that is the judgment I made in the matter.
That church and that minister have changed.
He is gone. A more godly minister is now in charge.
Under the new minister the church is prospering and has many members now.
The other problem is generations. A lot of the churches are made up of old people. As they die off, the new generation is not taking their place.

“Americans should heed the warning of the Prophet Ezekiel 16:49-50: Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty , and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.” Christianity is at its strongest when persecuted. There are very few true Christians who truly love Christ. Secularism, materialism, egoism and many other “isms” have entered the Church.

  • vaccines autism

Maybe a lot of millennials don’t need to be attend church cause they’re born illegitimate.

  • Barry Goldwater

This is one statistic I do not lay on Obama’s doorstep although he was well aware of America’s drift when he made his famous utterance proclaiming we aren’t “a Christian nation “.
So what’s really happened to us ?
In fact America’s long walk away from God began in 1962 when we removed prayer from school via the SCOTUS ruling in Engle vs. Vitale June 25,1962.
The Church began it’s long walk away from God when the quest for mega growth and materialism replaced the small country church with Pastors earning in excess of $250,000 salaries plus 401k ,swimming pools , three story mansions all while lecturing the working man on the need to tithe the Church. This is guaranteed to alienate people by the millions as it exposes that many denominations have regretfully become business for all practical purposes.
In truth most denominations are now corrupt $ oriented organizations whose only focus is growth and development of ever larger assets.
As citizens become dependent upon the state faith diminishes, it is natural and well established fact.
In a sense Government is becoming God and this isn’t likely to change soon.
