A New Madrid Earthquake Is Coming And America Will Be Shaken Like Never Before

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on StumbleUponEmail this to someone

New Madrid Fault Earthquake ZoneMost Americans expect the next great earthquake in the United States to come on the west coast.  But what if it strikes right down the middle of the country instead?  The New Madrid fault zone is six times larger than the San Andreas fault zone in California and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.  Back in 1811 and 1812, a series of absolutely devastating earthquakes along the New Madrid fault zone opened very deep fissures in the ground, caused the Mississippi River to run backwards in some places, and were reportedly felt as far away as Washington D.C. and Boston.  They were the strongest earthquakes ever recorded east of the Rocky Mountains, and scientists tell us that it is only a matter of time before we experience similar quakes.  In fact, the U.S. Geological Survey has admitted that the New Madrid fault zone has the “potential for larger and more powerful quakes than previously thought“, and the number of significant earthquakes in the middle part of the country has more than quintupled in recent years.  Someday, perhaps without any warning, an absolutely massive earthquake will strike the New Madrid fault.  Thousands of Americans will die, tens of thousands of structures will be completely destroyed, and millions of people will find themselves homeless.

Unlike on the west coast, buildings within the New Madrid fault zone are typically not constructed to withstand major earthquakes.  If we were to see the type of earthquake that we saw a little over two centuries ago, it would be a disaster unlike anything that any of us have ever known.  The following comes from WKRN, and it describes what those earthquakes back in 1811 and 1812 were like…

Can you believe that in the winter of 1811-1812 a series of earthquakes in northwest Tennessee shook the ground so hard that church bells rang on the East Coast and sidewalks cracked in Washington D.C?

The sitting president, James Madison, was even awakened in the middle of the night by the shaking of the White House.

In Tennessee, and surrounding states, the early settlers and Native American Indians were terrified by the shaking. Large fissures opened up in the ground, and some witnessed the Mississippi River appearing to flow backwards.

It is believed that those quakes shook an area ten times larger than that impacted by the 7.8 San Francisco earthquake of 1906.  Some of the giant cracks that opened up in the ground were up to five miles long, and the stench of fire and brimstone hung in the air for months afterwards.

Fortunately, the middle of the country was not heavily populated in 1811 and 1812, so the overall amount of damage was not that great.  The following comes from Smithsonian.com

The Midwest was sparsely populated, and deaths were few. But 8-year-old Godfrey Lesieur saw the ground “rolling in waves.” Michael Braunm observed the river suddenly rise up “like a great loaf of bread to the height of many feet.” Sections of riverbed below the Mississippi rose so high that part of the river ran backward. Thousands of fissures ripped open fields, and geysers burst from the earth, spewing sand, water, mud and coal high into the air.

Needless to say, if such a disaster happened today the damage would be absolutely catastrophic.

This is something that government officials have studied, and their conclusions are rather sobering

In a report filed in November 2008, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency warned that a serious earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone could result in “the highest economic losses due to a natural disaster in the United States,” further predicting “widespread and catastrophic” damage across Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and particularly Tennessee, where a 7.7 magnitude quake or greater would cause damage to tens of thousands of structures affecting water distribution, transportation systems, and other vital infrastructure.

Do you remember how traumatized people were when a few thousand Americans were killed on 9/11?

Well, how would the country react to a disaster that killed 100,000 Americans instantly?

A few years ago, the federal government held a major five day simulation known as “National Level Exercise 11″ that attempted to portray what a major New Madrid earthquake would look like…

In May, the federal government simulated an earthquake so massive, it killed 100,000 Midwesterners instantly, and forced more than 7 million people out of their homes. At the time, National Level Exercise 11 went largely unnoticed; the scenario seemed too far-fetched — states like Illinois and Missouri are in the middle of a tectonic plate, not at the edge of one. A major quake happens there once every several generations.

Could you imagine what that would mean for our nation?

In addition to the human toll, financial markets would completely collapse, key infrastructure throughout the region would be totally destroyed, and transportation on and across the Mississippi River would be brought to a standstill.  According to international insurance giant Swiss Re, if the 1811 and 1812 New Madrid earthquakes were to happen today, the economic losses alone would be in the hundreds of billions of dollars

A series of big shakes — of the sort last seen in 1811 and 1812 — would cause about $300 billion in damage, Swiss Re says. The cost would be double the damage from Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005.

Houses — especially brick ones — would collapse. Buildings would sink sideways into liquefying earth. Bridges might tumble into the rivers. The route of the Mississippi River could change — as it did in the last big quake.

People would die, perhaps by the thousands. Being mainly a property reinsurer, Swiss Re didn’t estimate the human toll.

It is also important to remember that there are 15 nuclear reactors along the New Madrid fault zone.

If a major earthquake did hit the area, we could be looking at Fukushima times 15.

Scientists tell us that there is a very deep “scar” in the earth in this region that makes the New Madrid fault zone “mechanically weaker than much of the rest of North America”.  The following comes from Wikipedia

The faults responsible for the New Madrid Seismic Zone are embedded in a subsurface geological feature known as the Reelfoot Rift that formed during the breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia in the Neoproterozoic Era (about 750 million years ago). The resulting rift system failed to split the continent, but has remained as an aulacogen (a scar or zone of weakness) deep underground, and its ancient faults appear to have made the Earth’s crust in the New Madrid area mechanically weaker than much of the rest of North America.

This relative weakness is important, because it would allow the relatively small east-west compressive forces associated with the continuing continental drift of the North American plate to reactivate old faults around New Madrid, making the area unusually prone to earthquakes in spite of it being far from the nearest tectonic plate boundary.

I believe that a major New Madrid earthquake is coming.  That is one of the reasons why I included such an earthquake in my novel.  Those that choose to live in that region are literally sitting on top of a ticking time bomb, and at some point it is going to blow.

Of course I wouldn’t want to be living on the west coast right now either.  The shaking of our planet continues to intensify, and this is going to cause great tragedies in the United States during the years ahead.

The warning signs are all around us.  In 2015, the state of Oklahoma shattered their all-time record for earthquakes in a single year, and volcanoes that were thought to be totally dormant are now erupting again all over the planet.

A great shaking is coming to America very soon.

I hope that you are ready.

“Those that choose to live in that region are literally sitting on top of a ticking time bomb, and at some point it is going to blow.”

Well, Michael, not all of us have the means to move. Besides, this is just speculation on your part. You don’t know with absolute certainty that there will be a major earthquake along the New Madrid fault zone.

    • http://www.coroflot.com/joelpeeters/portfolio Joel Peeters

Well, as a matter of fact it is not speculation at all on his part – There will be an earthquake on the New Madrid Fault line there is absolutely NO doubts about it. It already happened there so it will happen again because of the fragility of the underground crust in that location.

The question is about timing – will it be this month, this year, next year, in ten years, 100 years…? Based on Seismic Data from USGS, EMSC, and other “quake” agencies worldwide IT WILL happen with an absolute certainty.

One of the variable difficult to integrate in the situation is the intensive fracking located in Oklahoma not so far from the New Madrid Fault line location. No one knows if it has or not an effect on the stability of the whole area…

This being said, the worse would still not be New Madrid, the worse would the Cascadia Trench on the West Coast… that one is the biggest, and in terms of power and magnitude it can (and did it more than once) unleash a 9M+… ho, and we are at least 100 years overdue for the next Cascadia Quake… that was just to add to the doom and gloom ;-)

    • Jane Jessee

History has a way of repeating itself and the quake in 1811/1812 had the Mississippi running backwards…learn your history before you open your mouth.

    • waltinseattle

Absolute as any certainty. Now or in 50,000 years ? Thats absolutely, certainly unknown

  • Robert Barrett

It’s going to happen soon. Jesus Christ gave me a dream 2 years ago. It’s going to happen after a devastating earthquake on the west coast and a huge volcano hits the northwest area.

    • James

You are like Romeo in Romeo & Juliet, ACT I SCENE I

    • waltinseattle

That doesnt take a dream to figure out, west, moves eastward, however the volcanics could be central cal, and it needs to be plotted with solar magnetic torroidal interactions, moon doing some lensing …these arelotted already. Good for forensics too.

  • James

Maybe we should not frack there?

Then again, there was this in 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2012 so… when will it be?

  • K

The New Madrid was something I considered, when moving to TN. I ruled out the western, and central part of the state. Turns out the eastern part was the nicest anyway. Not much you can do about quakes. Try not to live right on top of a major fault. Carry earthquake insurance. Everything else, is how you would prepare for any other emergency..

  • Robert

Not to worry. FEMA will fix everything.

On another note, aside from the nuc reactors, you have many petrochemical plants along the big old muddy. Messy for many years afterward.

    Love the doom and gloom.

  • carson

truthfully honestly and technically there is no safe ground or place to be, but in Christ.
A person could move somewhere less prone to earthquakes historically and get blown away by the wind or buried in a mudslide or washed down river or find themselves running from ash clouds or forest fires….
and saving the tent body is nice and try and do that, but is still only temporary after all, and what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world and save the tent body for 70’s more years and other things and still lose their soul? Salvation is in Christ and for all eternity.
But the info on the fault lines is good in that some hopefully might consider their walk in life, either for Christ or against Him, and realize there’s no guarantee’s apart from Christ and it’s time to stop walking apart from Christ.
..aside from all the natural disasters..the drunk drivers are out there too, be saved in Christ.

    • Taking care of business!

Amen, carson. ‘Tis the end time, and those who are not save best find their eternal (How shall I say it?) “sheltering” in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven (Luke 21:11)” “Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my SALVATION [emphasis added] will last forever, my righteousness will never fail (Isaiah 51:6).” “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare (2 Peter 3:10).”

      • carson

yeah like a thief, meaning so very many will not see, won’t be watching..
But if even a few awake well there is much rejoicing in heaven when even 1 sinner repents!

For crying out loud Michael, I could walk out of my house tonight, take a cab into the city, and get hit by a bus or be knifed by a north sider. I could choke on a piece of beef stew or slip on a banana peel and hit my head and or die of an aneurysm. Please stop the hysteria.

    • watchmannonthewall

I have been watching this situation for a number of years. Today many people are becoming aware of the facts surrounding the New Madrid Fault but this was not so many years ago. I knew nothing about this fault until about 5-6 years ago. I doubt many knew much about it before then either, unless you happened to be a geologist!
In April 1973 David Wilkerson wrote the following in his book “The Vision”:
“The United States is going to experience…the most tragic earthquake in its history…the biggest news story of modern times. It will be coverage of the biggest, most disastrous earthquake in history. This earthquake will cause widespread panic and fear. Without a doubt it will become one of the most completely reported earthquakes ever. Television networks will suspend all programming and carry all-day coverage. I am not at all convinced that this earthquake will take place in California, In fact, I believe it is going to take place where it is least expected. This terrible earthquake will take place in an area not known as an earthquakle belt…Within minutes after this quake hits, the whole country will know it, and millions will be stunned and shocked.”

Interestingly enough, today, many people are aware of the New Madrid Fault and so when this quake happens, assuming this is the place Wilkerson prophesied of in April of 1973, they will claim that it has nothing to do with God and go on living as they have. They wil refuse to consider a servant of the LORD prophesied of this event 45 years before it happened and it is very likely even HE did not know of the New Madrid Fault at the time of his writing! I think Yeshua spoke somethig to the effect of, “Wisdom is justified by her children.”
BTW- I live in MI and carry earthquake insurance! $60 a year!

      • Barefoot in MN

thank you for sharing that. David Wlikerson was never wrong…. and was very humble. One of the few I trust.

    • Jane Jessee

You obviously know nothing about that area. Your stupidity is monumental. Better learn before you open your mouth. A major earthquake in that area would split this country in two and the damage is something not seen in this country, EVER.

      • RTL89

Correction: Michael is the one that knows NOTHING about that area. He’s an expert in finance and economics… NOT geology. NOT meteorology. And NOT astronomy, even though pretends to be with the variety of articles he puts out. This is an economic collapse blog; speak about what you know instead of creating hysterics out of pure fear and doom just to elicit views and advertising revenue.

        • waltinseattle

$300BILLION is big finance worthy event. A study was done, an insurance company ran the numbers. Laugh at the messenger not the message

        • Barefoot in MN

You think the economy won’t collapse after an event like this ?

        • MommaGator

I’m not seeing hysteria or fear-mongering in this article. It seems to me he’s just reiterating what we know about previous events and what scientists believe about possible coming events. There’s no “run for the hills” or “build a bunker” or “store all the food and water you can” mentioned here. But yes, as Barefoot suggested, the US economy WOULD collapse after an earthquake of this magnitude, considering the dollar amount of the damage that would occur, and the farmlands and commerce that would be affected. It’s just the truth. It’s weird to me that you’re reading fear and hysteria into this. Says more about you than about the author.

      • Ya’akovah Bourges

It’s coming though. Shows you’re NOT ready…. I mean, spiritually

      • MommaGator

Seriously? This is the best you can do for entertainment? That is very sad.

    • jaxon64

Agreed—-a meteor WILL smash into the earth again, the Yellowstone Super volcano WILL explode and blanket N America with a layer of ash, seas WILL be higher and cause coastal flooding if all ice on the earth melts and the sun WILL eventually wink out, implode and then explode our solar system into nothingness.
All of these things are as certain as earthquakes–I’m not gonna be losing sleep over any of them.

      • Mistanick

Forgive me as I don’t know where you coming from with your post.

Here is the thing for me. People have this fear of tragedy and losing their life in it. For the Christian, life is ever lasting. Heaven awaits. We all will die, whether it be in a horrific earthquake, flood, hit by a bus, or cancer. We all face death ultimately. No fear as many have passed before us and many, no all, will follow eventually. Look both ways before crossing the street, don’t eat poison, do common sense things to preserve life for His glory, but don’t be afraid. No hysteria. No fear.

        • jaxon64

My point is that this article is straight up fear-pushing. There are a myriad of inevitable calamities that can and will occur over a long enough period of time.
I refuse to join along in fear of potential earthquakes, meteors, droughts etc…these things must come to pass but Matt 6 tells me to not worry and seek first the kingdom of God. My mind is neither fearful of worldly events nor obsessed with worldly gain.
Christ himself said in the Olivet Discourse that “these things must come to pass”..God’s will be done…..

          • Guest

            Well said.

          • Barefoot in MN

fear is an unpleasant emotion; I totally understand your wish to avoid experiencing it. …..however: bear in mind, the current US culture is brainwashed into only living according to emotions. The shift began at least in the 1960’s if not before. Many people will not make a change (even a minor one) unless their emotions push them to do so. Thus: to save them, we must engage their emotions. We can hope that eventually they decide to use intellect as well as emotions, yes ?

      • Rhonda Shaw

one word ooops two Chernobyl Fukashima?

    • WVBORN56

On the other hand there is clearly an increase in earthquake activity. I personally believe these catastrophic events will mainly occur during the 7 year tribulation as God pours out his wrath upon the nations. So as we see these type events approaching we should sound the warning so people will prepare spiritually. The Bible says, “today is the day of salvation.” “For God so loved the world that whoever believes in Him will not perish but gain eternal life.”

      • Barefoot in MN

we are in the lead-up to the Tribulation. the four Horsemen are on the earth now (I have seen the fourth; tho not the other 3). If you count the start of the Great tribulation as being the moment the anti-messiah sets up his throne & alter etc in Jerusalem, then yes we are in the lead-up to it. But time is very short.

        • Jessy Scholl

Except the Great Tribulation was created by Francisco Ribero in order to create confusion. Daniel’s 70 Weeks is fulfilled prophecy. The final 7 years began when Jesus was baptized with the first 3.5 years ending with his death and the 7 years ending with Stephen’s stoning.

    • Ya’akovah Bourges

YESHUA said: “Many scoffers will arise, and say: BELIEVE NOT” Good by General Scoffer LOL

This site is really becoming hit or miss! Some stuff is stretched so far that it’s almost comical. I appreciate the sincerity but honestly this is one of the stretches for a story that fits in with the rest of the doom and gloom. I like you mike, but this seems like grasping at straws to simply post something

    • Barefoot in MN

the quake will re-distribute water……. tons upon tons of water…. as in, Make Michigan will not be where it is any more: it will surge toward the Gulf of Mexico. Now imagine all those towns & cities along the way, being washed away (literally)…. can you imagine how that could impact an economy ?

  • DJohn1

The Earthquake zone indicated also includes a lot of mountains.
Meaning it has happened before and the result was volcanoes.
Of course that was a long time ago.
Why do we need nuclear power anyway?
I think the baggage that comes with a nuclear power station is many times higher than any energy produced from it.
Where have all the engineers gone?
I remember right here in Dayton two such engineers changing the world. One was the self starter on automobiles. The other was the invention of the cash register.
The self starter was “impossible” to many scientists of the day.
Yet here we are. Get in a car and turn a key and it starts.
If I were designing a power station I would be tapping into energies in the core of the planet. At 10,000 degrees F. there is a lot of energy to be tapped. The amount of electrical energy is probably enough to supply the planet for 10,000 years.
But then who would pay the power companies?
We, as a country, need to get back to basics.
That means the family unit is self-substaining and capable of taking care of itself in an emergency. Right now millions of people will die because of disruptions in our transportation system alone.
The only people I know self-substaining are the Amish.
And that is a lot of hard work.
I think a redesign of how things work might be the answer.

    • waltinseattle

consider the SECONDARY RESULTS of the quake and the following inland tsunamis, fires, etc…. people will move to get someplace that appears safe[r]. Are you ready for an influx of refugees? …. prices of building materials will skyrocket. Prices of FOOD will skyrocket – also of gasoline; many refineries are located along the Mississippi, and barges wont be able to run. (it’s surprising how much shipping takes place on the Mississip.) It is quite possible that this will be what finally allows the govt to declare martial law — bringing order – by force – to a chaotic nation. I know in my area we will be suddenly changed from a peaceful area of woods & lakes, to a pass-through for all the traffic that normally goes across the River. Think of all those bridges out. Think of all the electronics destroyed; how wil planes navigate ? travel will be limited to LAND travel… air will be too dangerous, water too risky, for at least the first week.

First, New Madrid goes off. This causes Yellow Stone super volcano to pop. This causes all the faults in California and other West coast states to go, along with the volcanoes located out there. Hmmmmm….that is pretty much all of the US destroyed with out any one firing a shot. Would totally wreck your plans for the weekend.

  • Earlyhaze

I have heard that for 30 yrs. I believe it will happen someday. Know one knows when it will happen. These predictions of next week next year are a crock of bull.

  • Rick Deacon

This story on the New Madrid fault comes out every three to five years. Every time I hear it or others like it I think of what Jesus said about what takes place before His return in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21. If anyone hasn’t read these passages I would recommend you do.

  • Barefoot in MN

Want to know approximately when the quake will happen ? watch Israel.

In late August 2008, God said to me, “Send a message to the President,” (who then was still GW Bush), and He began to dictate : ” ‘If you divide My Land, I will divide yours. If you divide My City, I will divide yours! — and [as proof this is from Me & no coincidence], the place where your daughter was married will be[come] an example/sample of the afflictions My people suffer.’ ” ….So I e-mailed this to the White House comment place online. I got no response. A few days later, God said to me, ” Send another message to the President. ‘The ends [of the divide of the US] are already chosen; only the middle is yet to be selected. The southern end will be at New Orleans, where they are still rebuilding the levees. The northern end will be in Minneapolis, where they are not yet done repairing the bridge.’ ”

please understand: I am very very cautious about saying “God says this” or “God told me that”. It is a huge and scary responsibility to say such a thing. I have never been wrong about anything He said…. some things take years to happen, but eventually they all do come to pass.

I do NOT know what will be the last sign to announce, or trigger to cause, the great earthquake in the US. (There are 2 great earthquakes mentioned in Revelations; I think this earthquake could be part of them OR it could be a separate one, perhaps before either of them; after all, Jesus did say there would be earthquakes in various places. ) ….as I said, I do NOT know what the final trigger will be. Will it be the moment when the US govt gives the command to send troops against Israel? will it be the moment when Israel signs an agreement with some (under duress, most likely) agreeing to divide her land? will it be when boots arrive on the ground to enforce the division of the Land & the city ? I do not know. I have observed that God defends His Land fiercely; and He waits — at most — 24 hours, before acting with decisiveness.
