Could Mt. Hood Be The First Volcano To Erupt On The West Coast?

It is just a matter of time before one of the big volcanoes on the west coast erupts again.  For years, I have been warning about Mt. Rainier, and I will continue to sound the alarm about it.  When it finally goes, the death and destruction it causes could be off the charts.  Of course there are other volcanoes along the west coast that we need to be watching as well.  Although it doesn’t receive as much attention as Mt. Rainier, some experts are becoming concerned that Mt. Hood could soon erupt.  On Monday, dozens of earthquakes shook the volcano for 45 minutes, and the USGS is trying to calm the frayed nerves of nearby residents… (Read More...)

Yet another warning that makes it clear that we should all be bracing for a major seismic event along the west coast

While most Americans remain completely fixated on the upcoming presidential election, large earthquakes continue to rattle the Ring of Fire at an alarming rate.  On Monday, a magnitude 7.5 quake struck near the little town of Sand Point, Alaska, and it was felt over a very large area.  In fact, it is being reported that shaking could be felt “as far away as Chugiak, Anchorage and Bethel”.  Following the initial earthquake, there was a series of very large aftershocks.  As I write this article, there have already been 19 aftershocks of at least magnitude 4.0 in the region.  By the time most of you read this article, that number will almost certainly be higher.  Sadly, even though we have been witnessing a lot of shaking along the southern coast of Alaska and the west coast of the continental United States in recent months, very few experts seem concerned about the possibility that a very large seismic event could be coming. Major Eruption Imminent? Earthquake Swarms Reported At Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier And Mt. St. Helens

Volcano Erupting Full Moon - Public DomainIs an eruption of one or more of the major volcanoes in the northwest United States imminent?  In recent days, very large earthquake swarms have been reported at Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens.  It is certainly not unusual for each of these volcanoes to experience earthquake swarms from time to time, but right now we are seeing this happen at all three volcanoes simultaneously, and this comes at a time when seismic activity along the Ring of Fire is on the rise all over the planet.  If you have followed my work for a while, then you probably already know that I have been consistently warning that an eruption of Mt. Rainier is coming, and of course Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens are exceedingly dangerous volcanoes as well.  If any one of the three were to erupt on a massive scale, it would instantly become the biggest news story of the year. (Read More...)

One Of The Most Dangerous Volcanoes In North America Is Roaring To Life

Popocatepetl - from WikipediaMore than 25 million people live in the vicinity of North America’s 2nd-highest volcano, and in recent weeks this volcano has been steadily rumbling and has been spewing out massive amounts of black smoke and ash.  I have previously written about “the most dangerous mountain in the United States” (Mt. Rainier), but if the volcano that I am talking about today experiences a full-blown explosive eruption it could potentially be a cataclysmic event beyond what most of us would dare to imagine.  Popocatepetl is an Aztec word that means “smoking mountain”, and it is also the name of a giant volcano that sits approximately 50 miles away from Mexico City’s 18 million residents.  “Popo”, as it is called by locals, was dormant for much of the 20th century, but it came back to life in 1994.  And now all of this unusual activity in recent weeks has many wondering if a major eruption may be imminent.
