Yes, The Scientific Evidence Says That Eating Pork Does Cause Cancer

Bacon - Public DomainWhat we eat is literally killing us.  A stunning new report from the World Health Organization has concluded that there is clear scientific evidence that eating processed meat causes cancer.  In particular, the WHO specifically mentioned processed pork products such as bacon, sausages and hot dogs.  Of course for those of us that have been investigating these things for a long time, this doesn’t exactly come as a shock.  The alternative health community has been talking about the evidence that pork causes cancer for decades.  But for the WHO to come out and say these things publicly is a really big deal.

News of this new report made headlines all over the globe on Monday.  The following comes from a story in USA Today

Eating hot dogs, ham and other processed meat can cause colorectal cancer, and eating red meat “probably” can cause cancer, the World Health Organization’s cancer agency reported Monday.

Kurt Straif of the International Agency for Cancer Research said the risk of developing colorectal cancer from eating processed meat remains small but rises with the amount consumed. Consuming red meat was linked to colorectal, pancreatic and prostate cancer, but the link was not as strong, the IARC report said.

“In view of the large number of people who consume processed meat, the global impact on cancer incidence is of public health importance,” Straif said.

And the numbers that the WHO is talking about are quite striking.

For example, the WHO says that adding just one hot dog to your diet per day significantly increases your risk of colorectal cancer

According to studies cited in the WHO report, for every 50 grams of processed meat someone eats per day — the equivalent of a little more than a single hot dog — your risk of colorectal cancer goes up by 18%.

In case you still aren’t getting the picture, Cancer Research UK has put together a pretty little graphic to help you figure it out…

Meat Causes Cancer - Cancer Research UK

Once again, none of this is really “new”.

Over the past few years, some of the most prominent organizations in the medical world have been talking about this link

Eating too much red meat has already been linked to heart disease, various types of cancer, and early death, but has never officially been classified as a cancer-causing food. In 2014, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) – the same organization arm that classified the herbicide glyphosate as probably carcinogeniccited studies linking red and processed meats to colorectal, esophageal, lung, and pancreatic cancer, saying that determining the connection was a “high priority.”

According to the World Cancer Research Fund, “There is strong evidence that eating a lot of these foods [red and processed meat] increases your risk of bowel cancer.” Experts estimate that half of all cases of the disease could be prevented by adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Additionally, according to Harvard Medical School, cutting out or reducing red meat consumption can help prolong your life by up to 20%. The study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, found unequivocally that people who ate the most red meat (especially processed red meats) died younger, and most often from cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

And the evidence that pork is particularly bad for us is absolutely overwhelming.  The following is an extended excerpt from one of my previous articles

Americans have a love affair with pork.  We consume massive amounts of bacon, ham, sausage, pepperoni, etc.

But is that actually healthy for us?

Most people have never stopped to consider this, but they should.  The following is an excerpt from a paper entitled “The Adverse Influence Of Pork Consumption On Health” by Professor Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg…

The fact that pork causes stress and gives rise to poisoning is known. It is obvious that this does not only apply to preparations of fresh pork such as cold cuts, knuckles, feet, ribs and cutlets, etc., but also to cured meats (ham, bacon, etc.) and to smoked meats prepared for sausages.

Consumption of freshly killed pork products causes acute responses, such as inflammations of the appendix and gall bladder, biliary colics, acute intestinal catarrh, gastroenteritis with typhoid and paratyphoid symptoms, as well as acute eczema, carbuncles, sudoriparous abscesses, and others. These symptoms can be observed after consuming sausage meats (including salami which contains pieces of bacon in the form of fat).

And here are some more reasons why you should think twice about eating pork…

  • A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals.

  • The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison.

  • When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.

  • Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat.

  • Pigs and swine are so poisonous that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons. Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

  • When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal’s flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.

  • Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.

  • Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A three-ounce T-bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a three-ounce pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A three-ounce beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a three-ounce pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat.

  • Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine’s one stomach takes only about four hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh.

  • The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans. This is why God commanded that we are not even to touch their carcass. (Leviticus 11:8).

  • The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS, meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism.

Sadly, a significant number of my readers will respond very negatively to this article.

Because they absolutely love pork and they do not want to give it up.

And of course the meat industry moved very rapidly to cast doubt on today’s WHO report

But the meat industry was quick to dismiss the warning claiming it had been ‘rigged’ and was not based on proper evidence.

Dr Betsy Booren, Vice President of Scientific Affairs at the North American Meat Institute said: ‘They tortured the data to ensure a specific outcome.

‘Followers of the Mediterranean diet eat double the recommended amount of processed meats.

‘People in countries where the Mediterranean diet is followed, like Spain, Italy and France, have some of the longest lifespans in the world and excellent health.

Hopefully some people will be persuaded by this article, but I don’t expect that most people will.

Most people end up believing exactly what they want to believe, and that includes the truth about the food that they are shoving into their faces.

Unfortunately, in the United States today we can’t even rely on the big food corporations to label their products accurately.  Just check out what a different new study recently discovered

Some dogs were labeled pork-free — important for certain religions — but were found to contain pork after all. Others listed only one type of meat but included several or didn’t contain all the ingredients listed.

Even grosser: 2 percent of all samples were found to have traces of human DNA in them. Veggie dogs were the worst off, accounting for 67 percent of the hygiene issues and two-thirds of the human DNA found.

The good news: As bad as some brands were found to be, there are some trustworthy options out there. The report lists the soy chorizo and meatless corn dogs at Trader Joe’s as safe picks for vegetarians, and Taveritte’s, Whole Foods’ 365 brand, Aidell’s, Hebrew National, Ball Park, Oscar Mayer, and Johnsonville for meat eaters.

And just because your hot dog is labeled “vegetarian” does not mean that there isn’t any meat in it.  The following is an excerpt from a recent Natural News article

The fact that human DNA is being found in hot dogs might mean Bob fell into the meat grinder again. More likely, however, it just means that people working on these food lines aren’t wearing beard nets or gloves. It’s interesting that most of the problems were found in veggie dogs, which are positioned as being healthier than meat-based hot dogs. Apparently, veggie dogs aren’t 100% vegetarian because they also contain some human parts.

According to the Clear Food report, 10% of vegetarian hot dogs contained meat. Sadly, Clear Food refuses to name which brands were contaminated!

It is 2015, and yet with all of our technological advances we can’t even trust that our food is not severely contaminated?

I wish that I had better news for you.  As Americans, we have a love affair with meat.  Personally, I don’t eat pork, but I do really enjoy beef, turkey, chicken, etc.  Most of us are accustomed to having meat several times per day, and the vast majority of us never really stop to think of the health impact that this may be having on us and our families.

Do you think that this new WHO report will cause people to stop and reflect on the garbage that they are shoveling down their throats on a daily basis?

    Give up bacon?

    I don’t understand the question…

    • jaxon64

Fortunately, we have the local butcher right next door to our feed/garden store. All of the beef is from locally raised cows and grass fed. I’m not a pork chop, pork sausage or pork rib eater–but I’m NOT giving up bacon.
A BLT made from a garden ripe tomato and lettuces picked fresh from my backyard–nothing tastes better for breakfast, lunch or dinner……

      • watchmanonthetower

        “…nothing tastes better…”
        Couldn’t agree more. :)

The deer population around here is plentiful and needs seasonal attention. Not a hunter myself, but I must say; venison (in all its forms, fresh steaks to jerky) is an excellent alternative. Great care is taken to harvest the appropriate gender and aged animals from protected areas during the Fall and Winter seasons.
Rogue human hunters (no license, poachers, etc) are not tolerated by the authorities, and are aggressively pursued more than the deer.

But when it comes to my bacon, I say: Molon Labe!

True. So long as their feed is decent and controlled, the meat is good.

Bernando LaPallo lived to be 114 or 115 ? He said not to eat red meat except for lamb.

  • Tina Smith

the reason people get cancer from red meat is not only from the hormone injections, but because of the blood in the meat. The Bible is clear in Leviticus that before eating the animals such as cows we must bleed the animal! Most Christians are not aware that the slaughter factories in the US do not bleed the meat. They used to do it but no more. Many other countries do bleed the meat. Scripture says the life is in the blood and if we eat the blood in the animals we will surely die. USA has more cancer victims than other countries…could it be because we ignore God’s Word and eat meat drenched in its blood? I love steak and hamburgers and for the last 25 years I always soak the meat for 30 min in salt water before cooking it. The amount of blood coming out is gross and I for one do not want to eat that blood…or disobey God…who knew way back than what would cause us to die if we did not eat the right meats and bleed those we could eat.

    • VigilanteCaregiver

When we tried our hand at home slaughtering a cow some years ago; it was quite the experience. After exanguinating the cow thoroughly most of the meat was an interesting brown color – not the vibrant pink and red like at the store. At first we thought I made a mistake, but the on-call butcher (we have these out here) said that’s what supposed to happen. The meat tasted different than store-bought, too – less sugary and lighter in beef flavor. Also not as heavy as store-bought (most of what folks buy as meat from the store is water) It wasn’t bad; just different.

  • MaxRockatansky33

That’s why Jews and Muslims don’t eat pork. And they’re strong.

    • krinks

They don’t eat Pork as once upon a time there was no refrigeration to get it to your table safely.
I don’t buy this meat is bad meme for a second. It sounds like the Militant Vegans are at it again. The most healthy diet there is today is a High Protein Low Carb Diet.

The FDA has been recalling a whole lot of fish products from the west coast. They are saying because of botulism but I BET YOU IT is as you say.

Muslims won’t eat pork because it is against their religion. They have no problem beheading Christians and any one else they don’t like.

      • Sam

@JF1962 what does “beheading Christians and anyone else they don’t like” have to do with Muslims not eating pork. Your ignorance is astounding!

        • JF1962

Exactly what it means. If you don’t understand that , oh well,

Life causes cancer. Stop living and you can avoid all of those cancer causing substances. Come on people. Do you really think you are going to prolong yourselves for a hundred and fifty years. If you avoided everything that causes cancer, you would be a shriveled up husk of base elements and water. I am not saying to go and do anything you want. Just seek Christ and live in God’s grace. Good grief, haven’t we got enough to be concerned about?

  • Jim Davis

I trust the WHO about as much as I trust John Hagee which is to say not at all.

  • VigilanteCaregiver

Gonna go through this report and see if it’s believable. Junk science is rampant these days. Besides, I likes me some bacon, ham, and ribs… when we can afford it.

We raise rabbits by the dozen here and are prime cuts of meat! [drooling…] We keep them in elevated hutches and control their rations. We used to let them out to graze in a run cage, but collecting them became a hassle. We grow their feed in the garden, but will soon expand to growing forage hydroponically: fresh grass and hay all year round! The hens lay spectacular eggs after eating our leftovers. And soon we’ll install the 60 gallon tank, convert the hydroponics to aquaponics, and raise Tilapia.

This is how to do it.

Raise your own: concerned about your food supply – then control your food supply, yourself, in your own systems.

There seems to be very little in our environment that does not “cause” cancer. I have a fitness nut friend who did all the right stuff regarding nutrition, exercise etc. He had a massive heart attack and survived it likely due to his health regimen. However, much of his heart is messed up and bypass surgery is not an option. He is an invalid and will be so until his next cardiac event. Better check your genetics. Cancer is serious stuff and dealing with it is one of life’s most traumatic events. However, watching a parade and having a car plow into you is life changing. I will eat my chili dog, drink my soda and eat my onion rings. If the death angel taps me on the shoulder, then so be it. Americans fear everything by now.

    • desert nudist

There’s a bunch of possible causes. Maybe he did drugs. Heart attacks can be triggered after just weeks of taking medication in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class. Ibuprofen, aspirin and OTC painkillers are really bad. Also testosterone increases the likelihood of cardiovascular disease. I think this is one of the reasons eunuchs average 19-20 years longer than regular men. It would take a long time to explain but they also have better blood flow (at least in some areas).
Also EMFs seem to cause blood particles to clump together unless someone is grounded or away from the electromagnetic field.

    • Crisrose

Nothing to do with genetics. How many root canals did he have? That and check his vitamin c intake. Two main causes – bacteria from root canal and lack of vitamin c.

Just more government propaganda to make is fearful of one more thing, so when they collect all the starving and put them in the FEMA gulags they can say they’re ‘protecting us by feeding us gruel.

Asking people to give up bacon is like asking them to give up their guns. Of course, you could make the argument that bacon kills more people than guns so the left would want to ban it.

As a cancer survivor I have studied the effects of eating meat on the body. The problem is processed meat is full chemicals and other garbage that does cause cancer. If you are going to eat meat, make sure it is grass fed and organic.

    • eagleflyfree

the problem here is pigs. There are no grass fed, organic pigs. They are the garbage disposal and that is how God created them. We are not to eat them or we will get sick. The grass fed organic beef I agree with you on.

      • afchief

True, about pork which I don’t eat. I do limited my red meat intake to a few times a year and it is grass fed and organic.

        • eagleflyfree

We are in agreement. I don’t eat pork and I limit my red meat just like you. Fish, Chicken, more fresh veggies are the common staple. Cancer survivor? That is awesome! you are my hero.

          • elda

You should see what wild caught fish eat too. This is not about what animals eat, it is about unnatural diets and what we have unknowingly added to their diets.

      • morty4808

Except the farmer controls what they are fed, garbage in garbage out. its kinda like Congress.

      • TheLulzWarrior

That is what Allah told Mohammed, because Allah is a giant pig in Hades.

      • elda

That is not true. There are many Heritage breeds that graze just like cows and do not root. A pig will eat what you offer it. I know plenty of people that have these pigs and they really are more like cows. They are fed organic and no chemicals are used in their diet or processing. All natural. I would not eat a pig that has lived wild but then again I do eat chicken raised free range and you would freak if you knew what they eat.

Jesus came to fulfil the law NOT change it.. it’s just as bad for His people now as it was then…..Matthew 5 v 17 &18…

Just the reason a gubment entity proclaimed this is why I reject this completely. I process my own pork we harvest, sausage, bacon and the such and it has served me well lo these near 70 years. Come on Michael…Im disappointed in this article. Have people forgotten that mankind has been living off of meat since their existence, especially native populations like Eskimo, Aborigine, and many African tribes that live in arid regions where produce and wheat are not available? Do we ignore all the independent scientific evidence that demonstrates that the real culprit behind cancer (and obesity for that matter, oh, and diabetes) is sugar, not meat? Was it not Christ in Mark 7 :15 who said, “There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man”.? Or was it not the Holy Spirit which said in 1 Timothy 4, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits…forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from MEATS, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For EVERY creature is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving…”. This “finding” by the WHO is well…a bunch of bologne.

When the system goes down and there is no food in the stores, and people everywhere are starving, we’ll be forced to consume the one thing that is available year round…squirrels, vermine, snakes, deer, birds, insects…and yes…wild boars if their in your neck of the woods.

  • William Lutz

Pork and processed pork products do cause cancer, but there are also MANY other stuff that cause disease (i.e. sugar). The WHO and all other health organizations should also publicly claim that sugar is a highly addictive drug that is literally killing us.

Michael I appreciate you writing about this. It’s time for us to wake the heck up and realize what we are consuming.

  • AzDi

This is all about the environmental movement. Get animals off of the land to “sustain” the World. Guess they only eat veggies.

We don’t eat bacon often, mostly in the summer with fresh grown tomatoes and lettuce…BLT’s YUM. . Mostly chicken and an occasional steak. However, the bible says in :
1 Timothy 4 New International Version (NIV)
4 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, (meat) which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

Whatever you eat, Pray over your food before you eat it.

People have been eat pork and bacon for generations … it’s now an issue because of the refugee crisis pouring into our borders. I’m shocked you would promote this, and not have gotten why it’s now an issue. Wake Up.

    • jaxon64

Had not thought of this angle–maybe with the millions of muslims increasing in our population, the government could be trying to head off a future issue.
First you put out a few reports of the dangers of pork—then the FDA creates some serious regulations on pork producers.
Either the price skyrockets and destroys the pork industry because it will be too expensive to raise pigs….or they will outright ban pork as carcinogenic…Muzzies placated and the populace never even knew they were caving in to a “religious demand”

    • elda

All western countries better adopt pet pigs if they wish to counter the invasion of young men intent of getting every child bearing aged woman pregnant in order to conquer all of the west. This WHO report is meant to clear the way for this invasion, I agree. If they really cared about our health they would warn western cultures of the dangers of refugees coming with STDs and all the other diseases they are bringing rather than picking on pigs.

  • jaxon64

Exactly–the same WHO which joined with the Bill Gates Foundation and sterilized tens of thousands of women in Africa. They were given 3-part “tetanus” shots and strangely, only women aged 15 to 45 were needed to receive these free tetanus shots.
Look it up, strange but true……
Two other points: 1) It definitely behooves ( couldn’t resist the pun) the green crowd to speak against meat consumption–after all, Brazil can let that pasture land get re-overgrown by rainforest…and also 2) No cow flatulence emitting greenhouse gases/methane to destroy the planet’s fragile little ozone layer….

    • iris

Thanks, was that Rwanda? Same with the Red Cross, which went into Haiti after their major crisis a few years ago, to help. One of the things they “helped with” was to encourage women of childbearing years to get sterilized and to get abortions.

  • jaxon64

Humans routinely live into their late 80’s and early 90’s…in 1915 the average lifespan of humans worldwide was <50. I see the quality of life of people living to be octogenerians daily–for the vast majority it is a lot of physical discomfort and boredom ( there are the 10% exceptions which still drive, swim and are active in the community)..
My point is, at what point do we give up all that we enjoy for the sake of a greater chance to live to be 100? or 120 max? Besides, society can't tolerate or support a large population of 80 and 90 year olds and inflation and 0% interest ensures that very few have retirement funds to last 25+ years after they finish working…….
Exercise, eat well with all things in moderation and die with dignity having lived a full and love filled life.

It is not the pork but the nitrates/nitrites used in processing it that can cause cancer. furthermore, the studies on red meat used grain fed beef which is not healthy. Grass fed beef has no such deleterious effect on the human body. In fact the omega 3 to 6 ration in grass fed approximates that of many wild caught fish. that is also why we should not eat farmed fish…..

  • TheLulzWarrior

They want to tax meat for the prols.

  • Hank

What the WHO is claiming is partially BULL CRAP. It`s not the meat itself that causes cancer. Just as stated, it is the “PROCESSED” foods that is harmful. Processed foods are full of artificial crap. Chemicals, fillers, and what ever. That is what is killing us. We need to go back to raising livestock without the injections they give to the animals and feed them with grains that does`nt have fillers in it. Grass fed. Buy from local farmers or raise live stock yourself.
WHO is still selling the people a load of lies.

  • 21Grams

Michael, all you can do is lay the truth out there. What people do with it is out of your hands. You’re right, whether it be pork, pagan holidays, whatever, there will be a knee jerk response of anger when you speak the truth, and inevitably their justification of why it doesn’t apply to them. These the same people that told everyone, ON PAIN OF DEATH, to stop eating fats?

Only to find out, oopsie!, that you ARE FAR MORE LIKELY TO DIE ON A VERY LOW FAT CONTENT DIET??

These the same people that told everyone, ON PAIN OF DEATH, to stop eating salt?

Only to find out, oopsie!, that you ARE FAR MORE LIKELY TO DIE ON A VERY LOW SALT CONTENT DIET??

Whether pork is bad for you, is neither here nor there: HOW could you POSSIBLY justify giving these people the time of day??

Reading this sounds like what is taught by faiths that do not eat pork like Muslims. Chickens eat worse things than pigs and nothing is said about them. They describe feral pigs not farmed pigs. They describe the butchering done out in the forest if a pig is taken from there. If someone were to keep a list of everything a free range chickens eats in the course of her range through everything they get into you would not want to eat those beautiful eggs. Their diet makes most pigs look vegan.
