If You Believe That The Cold War Is Over, Just Look At What Is Happening In Ukraine

Ukraine Violence - Photo by Mstyslav ChernovWhat is happening on the streets of Kiev right now is really a proxy war between the East and the West.  On the one side you have the USSA and the EUSSR, which are quite determined to bring Ukraine under their sphere of influence.  On the other side you have Russia (the former USSR), which is quite determined to keep Ukraine out of the EU and out of NATO.  In addition, Russia is extremely concerned about the strategic natural gas pipelines that go through Ukraine that transport gas from Russia to the rest of Europe.  Ultimately, it is not in the interest of the people of Ukraine to be dominated by either side, but that is going to be what ends up happening.  The Cold War is playing out on the streets of Kiev as you read this, and this conflict is going to greatly increase tensions between the East and the West.  As these tensions continue to rise, someday this Cold War could actually end up sparking a real war between the superpowers. Will Russian And Chinese Military Forces On Syrian Soil Prevent Obama From Bombing Syria?

Everyone knows that the Obama administration has been steadily gearing up for a military campaign against Syria.  Everyone also knows that Russia and China do not want to see this happen.  Now Russia and China are sending military forces to Syria.  It is being reported that Russia, China, Iran and Syria will be conducting the “Middle East’s largest ever military exercise” next month.  Apparently tens of thousands of troops will be involved.  This will be the first time that the Russians and the Chinese have jointly deployed large numbers of troops in Syria.  Will this show of military power be enough to prevent Barack Obama from bombing Syria?  Or will Obama go ahead anyway and risk ruining relations with the Russians and the Chinese?  Tensions are rising in the Middle East and the region is a powder keg that could erupt at any time.  If someone makes the wrong move we could end up with World War III. The UN Wants Complete Control Over The Internet And That Would Mean Unprecedented Censorship, Taxes And Surveillance

One of the fastest ways to ruin the Internet would be to put the United Nations in charge of it.  Unfortunately, that is exactly what the United Nations wants.  The United Nations is now pushing very hard for complete control over the Internet. A proposal that has the support of China, Russia, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Iran would give control of the Internet to the UN’s International Telecommunication Union.  This is perhaps the greatest threat to the free and open Internet that we have seen yet.  At a UN conference in Dubai this upcoming December, representatives from 193 nations will debate this proposal.  The United States and many European nations are firmly against this proposal, but it is unclear whether they have the votes to stop it.  Unlike the Security Council, there are no vetoes when it comes to ITU proceedings.  So the United States may not be able to stop governance of the Internet from being handed over to the United Nations.  The United States could opt out of any new treaty, but that would result in a “balkanized” Internet.  If the UN gains control over the Internet, you can expect a whole new era of censorship, taxes, and surveillance.  It would be absolutely catastrophic for the free flow of commerce and information around the globe.  Unfortunately, many repressive regimes are very dissatisfied with how the Internet is currently working and they desperately want to be able to use the power of the UN to tax, regulate and censor the Internet.  Needless to say, that would be a disaster.  International control over the Internet would be a complete and total nightmare and it must be resisted. Barack Obama: I Have A “Moral Obligation” To Neuter America

Barack Obama actually plans to do it.  He actually plans to neuter America by unilaterally dismantling most of the U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal.  In fact, Barack Obama says that the United States has a “moral obligation” to disarm as we lead the way to “a world without nuclear weapons”.  Sadly, a “world without nuclear weapons” is a fantasy that will not be possible any time soon.  Nuclear weapons technology is getting into more hands with each passing year, and geopolitical tensions are rising all over the globe.  If the United States did not have nuclear weapons, anyone with just a handful of nukes would constitute a massive threat to our national security.  An overwhelming strategic nuclear arsenal helps keep us safe because every other nation on the planet knows that it would be national suicide to attack us.  If you take that overwhelming strategic nuclear arsenal away, the entire calculation changes. Insanity! Is Barack Obama Going To Unilaterally Slash The Size Of The U.S. Nuclear Arsenal By Another 80 Percent?

Barack Obama wants to disarm America.  There simply is no other way to explain his reckless behavior.  On Tuesday it came out that the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.  From a military standpoint, this is utter insanity.  Early in his presidency, Barack Obama signed a treaty with Russia that restricts both nations to a maximum of 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads.  But now Obama wants to cut the size of the U.S. arsenal down to as low as 300, without requiring the Russians to do anything.  In addition, we don’t even have a treaty with the Chinese, and we have no idea how many deployed nuclear warheads they have.  For all we know, it could be in the thousands.  Unfortunately, very few people are speaking up about this.  Most Americans just assume that we have such a massive nuclear arsenal that nobody would ever dare to mess with us.  Well, that was true back in the 1980s, but that is not true today.  If Barack Obama does unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by 80 percent, that would make another world war much more likely.  If we are sitting there with far fewer nukes than Russia and China have, they will not fear us nearly as much. 24 Signs That We Are Getting Dangerously Close To A Major War In The Middle East

Is 2012 the year when we will see a major war in the Middle East?  For years we have heard about rising tensions in the Middle East, and for years we have heard politicians express concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, but now things really do seem to be reaching a boiling point.  In just the past few days, the U.S. government has imposed tough new sanctions on Iran and has totally shut down the U.S. embassy in Syria.  The truth is that we are getting dangerously close to a major war in the Middle East. So will Israel strike Iran at some point in the next few months?  Will the U.S. military intervene in the rapidly escalating conflict inside of Syria?  If a major war does erupt, it could send the price of oil skyrocketing and there is the potential that the war could broaden very quickly.  Hezbollah has already indicated that it will side with Syria, and there is always the potential that Hamas could as well.  Russia and China have both stated that they are completely opposed to military action by the United States against Iran and Syria, and they have even hinted that they would possibly even help defend those countries.  As the nations of the world take sides, there is even the potential that we could see World War III develop.  Let us hope that it never comes to that, but with the world as unstable as it is right now, you never know what may happen. The Russian Bear Is Back, The Soviet Union Is Being Revived And The Cold War Is Not Over

If you believe that the United States is the “sole superpower” in the world, then you really need to read the rest of this article.  Most Americans have very little idea what is actually going on in the rest of the world and how the global balance of power is shifting.  For example, can you name the country that is the number one oil producer in the world, the number one oil exporter in the world, the number one exporter of natural gas in the world and that also has the second most powerful military in the entire world?  In case you need a hint, it is not Saudi Arabia, it is not China and it is not the United States.  The correct answer is Russia.  The Russian Bear is back in a big way.  Did you know that Russia is rapidly becoming one of the top suppliers of oil to the United States?  Russia has vast natural resources, a national debt that is very low (ratio of publicly held debt to GDP is less than 10%) and an economy that has boomed over the past decade.  Russia is busy flexing its muscles in many different ways.  For example, many are pointing out that the “Eurasian economic union” that Russia is putting together is a significant move in the direction of a revival of the Soviet Union.  Russia is also rapidly modernizing its military and developing very powerful new weapons systems.  Most Americans believe that the Cold War is over and that Russia is a toothless bear that no longer represents a threat.  It is difficult to find words to describe how wrong that assessment of the situation is. Vladimir Putin’s Vision Of A Socialist European Free Trade Zone That Stretches From The Atlantic To The Pacific

Back during the Cold War, one of the great fears was that the Soviet Union would invade western Europe and absorb it into their socialist empire.  But now could essentially that exact same thing happen in the name of free trade?  Over the past couple of decades, the European Union has gone from being just a “free trade area” to a highly repressive socialist regime run by a bunch of control freaks.  As many in Europe have correctly noted, the European Union is highly centralized, deeply corrupt and almost entirely undemocratic – just like the former Soviet Union.  Now Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is publicly proposing that all of Europe should join with Russia to create an absolutely gigantic “free trade zone” that would stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Why Is Russia Building 5000 More Nuclear Bomb Shelters In Moscow By The End Of 2012?

Russia certainly seems to be in a hurry to prepare for something.  RT is reporting that 5,000 new nuclear bomb shelters will be constructed in the city of Moscow by the end of 2012.  Russian authorities believe that these new shelters are urgently needed because the current nuclear bomb shelters will only hold approximately half the population and are quite outdated.  In addition, there are apparently very few nuclear bomb shelters for those living outside the city center at this point.  Officials want virtually the entire population of Moscow to be able to reach a bomb shelter within a matter of minutes.  But in this era when the “Cold War” is supposed to be over, why are 5000 nuclear bomb shelters such an urgent necessity?
