Pastor Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison For Teaching That Parents Should Spank Their Children

Do you believe that parents should be able to spank their children?  Do you ever express that opinion to others?  If so, then you could be sent to prison.  Sadly, that is exactly what happened to one pastor up in Wisconsin recently.  A minister named Philip Caminiti was sentenced to 2 years in prison for simply teaching that parents should spank their children when they misbehave.  Please note that Caminiti was not accused of spanking anyone or of physically hurting anyone.  He was put in prison simply for his speech.  He was put in prison simply for what he was teaching others to do.  Whether you agree with spanking or not, this should be incredibly sobering for all of us.  Increasingly, speech is being penalized in the United States.  Much of the time, the focus of the attacks by the forces of political correctness is on religious speech.  If this trend continues, many of you that are reading this article might be put in jail for the things that you say in the coming years.

***Please Note: I am not defending anything that Phil Caminiti does or teaches.  In fact, a lot of things that he teaches are dead wrong.  What I am alarmed about is that a minister was put into prison solely for things that he said.  If they will do that to him, how soon will it be before they start putting other ministers in prison?***

When many of us were growing up, once in a while our parents would take out a belt or a wooden paddle and give us a paddling on the behind when we did something wrong.

Was there anything wrong with that?

Of course not.

Yes, there is real child abuse that goes on out there, but in the vast majority of instances spanking does not do any lasting physical harm.  Rather, it benefits the child because it helps them learn what is right and what is wrong.

I know that when I got a licking on the behind as a child that helped me to remember not to do the same thing again.

But Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi was absolutely horrified that some parents would actually use a wooden spoon to spank their little children when they misbehaved.

Perhaps that judge should actually try to spank someone with a wooden spoon some time.  You simply cannot do much damage with a wooden spoon.

Instead of going after the parents who were doing the spanking, prosecutors chose to go after the pastor instead.  They claimed that Caminiti was “the spoke in the wheel of this conspiracy“.

Even after Caminiti leaves prison, he will be forbidden from having any contact with his old church….

Caminiti will be on extended supervision for six years after his release from prison. Despite objections on constitutional grounds by Caminiti’s lawyers, Sumi ordered that he not have any contact with the Aleitheia Bible Church and have no leadership role in any church.

What in the world is happening to this country?

Criminal predators are literally eating the faces off of people, and yet authorities want to go after pastors that are encouraging their congregations to follow the teachings of the Bible?

Have we stepped into a really bizarre episode of The Twilight Zone?

Sadly, this is not the only example of how our free speech is under attack these days.

Up in New York, a new bill was recently introduced that would outlaw all “mean-spirited and baseless political attacks”.

I think that would cover a whole lot of people that leave comments on my blog.

The following is how a recent article by Kurt Nimmo described what this new law would require….

New York state government is attempting to pass the measure in both the Senate and the Assembly. The legislation has been referred to the Codes Committee in the Senate, and the Government Operations Committee in the Assembly.

Both proposals are identical and would effect messages posted on message boards, blogs, social networks, and “any other discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.” The law would require websites to post email addresses for “removal requests, clearly visible in any sections where comments are posted.” Those demanding the removal of content they find objectionable, however, would have their anonymity protected.

“Had the internet been around in the late 1700s, perhaps the anonymously written Federalist Papers would have to be taken down unless Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay revealed themselves,” notes David Kravets, writing for Wired.

Will we soon see laws such as this nationwide?

Will all blogs and websites soon be at the mercy of the politically correct police?

Up in Buffalo, New York it is apparently now against the law to hand out Christian tracts on a public sidewalk.  At least that is what one man was told recently when he attempted to hand out tracts outside of an Italian heritage festival.  The following is from a recent WorldNetDaily article….

While handing out tracts to willing recipients on a public street during a public festival, Owen was approached by a police officer who declined to identify himself but told him that the Buffalo Police Department is “the law” and he should stop handing out tracts.

According to the lawsuit: “Subsequently, another police officer, Officer Slomka, arrived on the scene. She quickly informed Owen that they could not hand out tracts in the festival and explained that the prohibition was ‘by our orders.’ Owen asked for her name, and she replied: ‘Slomka, write it down.’ Owen advised that he believed the tracts to be free speech; nonplussed, Officer Slomka reiterated that they couldn’t hand out tracts there and had to go outside of the festival area to continue with their expressive activity.”

Then, “Owen inquired as to whether they would be arrested if they continued to hand out tracts in the festival area, to which, Officer Slomka replied: ‘Yes.’”

That almost makes me angry enough to take a trip over to Buffalo and hand out tracts right outside the police station.

Even if you do not ever distribute literature, you should be alarmed at how our freedom of speech is being eroded.

The truth is that whenever anyone has their freedom of speech attacked it is an attack on all of us.

If we are not careful, we are going to end up just like Canada.

At one high school up in Canada recently, a student was suspended from school for a week for wearing a shirt with the following message….

“Life is wasted without Jesus”

The student was told that the shirt was “hate talk” and that he would be suspended for the rest of the year if he tried to wear it to school again.

They are coming for our free speech ladies and gentlemen.

They are not going to be satisfied until they have either shut all of us up or put all of us in prison.

It is imperative that we all stand up for free speech while we still can.  Once our freedom of speech is gone, the loss of the rest of our freedoms will only be a matter of time.

In the name of political correctness, fighting “terrorism,” and sometimes for no clear reason at all, our civil rights have been stripped from us while we were too busy watching Dancing With The Stars, American Idol and Jersey Shore. Now we have the illusion of civil rights. One thing we will have, however, are drones above us. See:

Of course, the government would never abuse us with these weapons, would they? And will the way these weapons are used end up being very different from the (lying) assurances we receive when the program gets started?

So let me exercise mine right now by saying this, No man comes to God except through Jesus Christ.

    • Christ includes His Body and Bride…so, the Protestant has tried to end run around Christ and come in the back door. Most Protestants=not Christians, at all. Cannot separate Christ from Church, Christ from his Apostales.

I,as a person who came to this Nation from communist Cuba 6 years ago, know very well what to expect if this continues this way! It is a sad thing to observe how the Nation I came to seeking freedom and liberty is becoming just like or worse than the one from which I fled! May the Lord help us and guide us through these trying times!

    • WM

I know a Pastor Raul from Cuba. He came here about 40 years ago. We had dinner together in 2009 and we got on the topic of end times, new world order, etc. He said when America sneezes, the world catches cold. He was also very troubled about where America is headed, as he remembered where he came and contrasted the freedoms we have here in the good old USA. I’ll never forget when he said to me, ” If America falls, what then?” America is already falling, and if we lose our freedoms…..where else on earth could someone go, that is even close to America with all her freedoms and rights?

      Que Dios te bendiga, Magdiel!

    Matthew 24
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
//They are coming for the Christians. It’s loud and clear.

  • The propaganda system works by allowing us to say what we want, as long as it falls within the range of “sensible moderation.” They’re not afraid of free speech. They want us to argue over politics, as long as we restrict ourselves to the political equivalents of Team Edward and Team Jacob. They want us to say things like, “Oh, I like Romney, but prefer Obama” while the nation collapses and more and more citizens turn into unpeople.

A Black Earth church pastor who taught his flock to discipline their children, some as young as 2 months old, with wooden spoons and rods was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Spanking an infant or toddler is always child abuse, 100% of the time. At that age children cannot associate a complex stimulus with a response.

in the vast majority of instances spanking does not do any lasting physical harm

Which is never the issue. The problem is psychological harm and spanking has an extremely high correlation with mental problems later in life.

yet authorities want to go after pastors that are encouraging their congregations to follow the teachings of the Bible?

The law is not bound to a work of fiction.

    • Ken

Your opinion about what a child can do or perceive at what age is based on what?

Please cite your claim that spanking causes mental problems.

    • jesusknight

Its not spanking that leaves a high probability of mental problems, its beatings and assaults. The pastor never advocated beating a child or assaulting one. He advocates discipline, not high handed abuse.

    • Jacques

The pastor rightly went to prison. He sold his birthright (God-given right to Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness) for a a bowl of porridge [501 C(3) corporate status] a privilege from his new god, the State. Further, he is tryiong to subvert the authority of his new god by encouraging the slaves(parents)to cause injury to the King’s property, the children. All children were transferred to the ownership of the State at birth through the birth certificate application. Yes, the children belong to the State. Ignorance is a BITCH. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge!

  • Curtis Tucker

WOW! Will “they” come after me if I allude to agreeing with the accused and imprisoned gentleman with my words here. If it happens with our “speech” it can surely happen with our words in text, no? Even more so, no? Consequences should be rightfully gained, no? What is imprisonment but a consequence for doing something wrong? Is prison time, less severe than a spanking?

  • Gary2

You do not cure children’s bad behavior with violence. I look at spanking like I look at blood letting as a medical procedure back in the 1800’s. How could they be so dumb?

I would like to think we are more evolved as a society that we do not spank and perpetuate violence against children.

People that think spanking is OK are living in the stone age. With 4 kids I have never spanked and they are turning out excellent.

    • Kevin

I agree with the exception of a child about to injure them self. A smack on the butt can work.

Generally beatings are done as a replacement for involved parenting. One will find the less educated (self or formal) the parents the greater the violence. I seen more successful adults come from non beating homes then beating homes and a couple of those beaten kids become very bad adults.

My parents were 8th grade educated first generation Americans that just did not know any better.

“When many of us were growing up, once in a while our parents would take out a belt or a wooden paddle and give us a paddling on the behind when we did something wrong.”

“Was there anything wrong with that?”

A lot. If you need to use a weapon on your kid you screwed up royally.

The above being said free speech is free speech and religious speech is but one nano step away from political speech.

    • ScoutMotto

Gary, people have been spanking children for thousands of years. I don’t know how you define “excellent,” but I would like to see for myself how your kids turned out, and in so doing remove parental bias from the assessment. I’ve seen some kids turn out real good though they were spanked. I’ve seen kids that weren’t spanked turn out to be little jerks who grew up into big jerks. You should reassess your consideration of spanking if it is the same as bloodletting. I was spanked and I turned out to be an upstanding citizen, active in his community, responsible with money, a debtless homeowner, law-abiding with no arrest record.

      • Gary2

Gary, people have been spanking children for thousands of years

people have been doing a lot of shit for thousands of years–murder, rape, coveting your neighbors wife etc that means nothing when you say spanking for thousands of years. try again.

My guess is that spanking is the reason there are conservatives. They must have been really whacked hard to shake a few screws loose.

    • laura m.

Kids (most) are not disciplined today; talking back to parents, teachers, etc. Acting up in public places, real brats. My generation was spanked with belts, and teachers slapped hands with rulers. Parents today allow their underage kids to raise bastards and support them. I have nothing to do with this type trash, they are losers big time. The churches are full of these type hypocrites and 501c3 butt kissing neutered pastors who won’t speak out on anything just drawing big salaries.

      • Kalen

No one is saying you shouldn’t discipline kids. Involved parenting involves discipline. Physically hurting a child is a barbaric, ineffective and destructive way of disciplining. You will see that there is a strong correlation between violent criminals and people who were hit as kids. I know men who hit their wives. Guess what? Their parents hit them. That was how they were taught to deal with altrications and disagreements.

Parents can withhold privileges etc. instead of punishment and have deep discussions about what they did and why it is wrong. They can earn their children’s respect and get them to appreciate their point of view. Spanking is just a dismissive way of dealing with the issue and most parents who spank fail to use other means to get their message through.

Laura, your statement doesn’t support spanking kids. The “underage bastard children” you refer to likely had parents who were not involved. Rather than seeing the number of parents who fail to hit their kids, we should look at the epidemic of people who fail to put any effort into raising their children. Parents who work 70 hours a week, go to bars and leave their kids at home, have affairs and refuse to talk to their kids when they are around are probably more to blame for all the problems you speak of.

  • Georgiaboy61

Kudos for penning this article in defense of free speech, but it is a “day late and a dollar short,” for free speech has been under attack in these United States for quite some time now, in such things as “hate crime” laws and on college campuses, where censorship of dissent is a reality, if that dissent is politically-incorrect. Employers now do internet searches on statements made by their employees/would-be employees online, and if those statements violate the unofficial code of PC, the malefactor is fired or not hired in the first place. Muslims are seeking to criminalize criticism of any kind of their faith, and are making headway in the U.N. and elsewhere. In many European nations and Canada, it is illegal to speak negatively of certain protected groups. Yes, the “thought police” are alive and well among us. The solution? Use your first amendment rights as often and as vigorously as possible. Rights unused atrophy and wither from disuse. Use your freedom while you still have it.

  • Elk Thuringer

“There is no way to God except through Jesus Christ”
It is statements like that that have caused so much pain and suffering for humanity over the course of the last 2,000 years. If Jesus were alive today he

    A) would not advise you to hit children or that doing so is OK

    B) would not condemn your soul to eternal damnation for not worshipping him

Religious Zealots have been responsible for the fall of religion. Anybody can see the hate and lack of compassion in your words.

    With love,
    Elk Thuringer

    • Tim

Oh, but Jesus Christ is alive. He’s seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high! (Hebrews 1:3) Christians don’t worship a dead Savior. They worship a Savior who conquered death and ever lives to make intercession for them.

    • r.bitting

If Jesus is the only way ( and He is ) then there is nothing more compassionate I can do than to tell you. The true freind tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

  • A.S.

If I were lawyer, I would take anti-religious-beliefs cases pro-bono. Every person involved in suspending that boy in Canada should be fired and barred from having any contact with ALL children indefinitely! As for those cops in Buffalo, all of them should be fired and barred from having any contact with the public indefinitely! What morons would actually defend their actions?! This goes beyond being angry when such things happens. That kid should come back to school wearing clothes, each with a different message: baseball hat, shoes, pants, jacket, maybe even a button or two (e.g. the Canadian equivalence of Ron Paul 2012). Being an Orthodox Jew, I know all too well where things like that lead to: a war against the oppressors (e.g. the Maccabes fighting the Greeks — that is why we celebrate Chanukkah). So, if I were to be in that school, would I be allowed to wear a T-shirt saying “Chanukkah – going against Greek oppression still happens today!”
Or how about political free speech? Would I be allowed to walk around with Ron Paul 2012 all over my clothes in the middle of a ultra-liberal-dimwit majority community? I will actually have to do this! And my first stop will be to come into their police station just to say hello!

    • A.S.

Just thought of something…what if I were to wear a T-shirt saying “It felt good to shoot down that drone!”

  • Mike

Sounds like this judge should have had a wooden spoon a time or two during her childhood.

    • ME

I would expect this to be overturned upon appeal. At any rate, this judge convicted him based upon HER political views and should be removed from the bench and disbarred.

      • Kalen

The Supreme Court has ruled that inciting someone to commit a criminal act is not speech protected by the first ammendment. That being said, I think the criminal element depends on the severity of what he was calling for. Calling to hit a two month old with a spoon is pretty extreme, but you may be right that it will be overturned on appeal. We will find out.

  • WM

Another great expose on whats really going on. I had made a speech in a local church about 20 years ago regarding how free America is and how it seemed void of any Christian persecution by the government. As a student of history, I pointed out that this perception of freedom and safety and the seeming “bubble” covering and protecting America will in fact be lifted, and we are seeing it being lifted now. Jesus promised his followers persecution for the Truth and that is exactly what has arrived or should I say, has been revealed in America. Along with Americans losing their freedoms at a disturbing pace, Christianity is no longer being tolerated. Long gone are the days when preachers used to drive around with loudspeakers on their car roofs, openly proclaiming Biblical teaching.

Any ideas how to contact the pastor or do something to show support for him????

    • Michael

I don’t have any contact information, but if anyone does have a way to contact him please post it.

and yet “Christians” dominate the Republican Party but you’re powerless? the two defining characteristics of the modern right-winger is blind rage and self-pity

  • what was this fellow handing out at an Italian heritage festival?
Presumbly, some anti-Catholic crap, likely something along lines of jack Chick. Instead of handing it out randomly, he goes to a festival about Italian heritage, targeting Catholics, since Catholicism and Italian heritage so closely linked.
In the old days, he might have been mauled, so he should consider himself lucky. He purposely went somewhere to stir the pot and to attack, fake smile and “Jesus loves you” empty words aside.
Handing out false literature at all he is lucky to do…do I feel bad for him? not in the least. had he been in one of the 1000’s of fake “Christian” congregations, and the police came for him, then maybe so. He pushed the limit, too bad so sad……

    • El Pollo de Oro

Winston Smith: the last time I visited Rome, there were some dopey American anti-Catholic evangelists on a street that leads to Vatican City. I’m not Catholic, but la Citta Vaticana was on my “places to visit” list along with the Roman Coliseum and the Spanish Steps. Anyway, the anti-Catholic evangelists were screaming against Catholicism in English, and when I made fun of them in Italian, they couldn’t respond because none of them spoke any Italian. There’s something really lame and pathetic about a bunch of imbeciles showing up in a largely Catholic country and trying to win people over to an anti-Catholic viewpoint when they couldn’t even speak basic Italian. Mamma mia, che cornuti!

But hey, at least Italia respects the rights of inbred morons to make asses of themselves. The fact that foreigners were able to rail against Catholicism within walking distance of Vatican City speaks well of Italy’s respect for free speech, in my opinion. If they showed up in Saudi Arabia screaming against radical Islam, they’d be stoned to death.

    • Justa Guy

It is unfortunate that you think this person went there to “attack”, when the obvious reason they went there was in obedience to Jesus’s teachings. Those people are more than likely headed to hell, because the catholic church with all of their man-made rules cannot save them. The catholic church teaches many unbiblical and even sinful practices, not the least of which is praying to Mary, which is idolatry. The bible is absolutely clear that God despises idolatry, and that there is only One that can intercede on our behalf, and that is Jesus.

  • Gary2

Normal people do not spank children and use violence against them. Period.

If you feel you need to resort to spanking you are a pretty pathetic parent. This is no longer the 1800’s.

    • ME

Sounds like your parents were non-spankers.

    • ME

The world is sooo much more polite and orderly today (riiiiight!). The same people got God kicked out of America’s schools. Regardless of your views on religion, it’s hard to argue that USA’s schools are better today than 100 years ago.

    • ScoutMotto

Gary, spanking has been done in the 1950s, 60s, 870s, etc. Comparing it to the 1800s is a propaganda technique designed to smear those who disagree with you. I’ve seen you attempt to define excellence, now I’m wondering what exactly it is you consider “normal.”

“Don’t hit mommy, junior. Use your words.” Wretch!

      • ScoutMotto

That should say 70s, not 870s. Oops.

    • laura m.

Gary 2: I agree w/ S. Motto… I remember spankings were common (even in public) thru the 1970’s and centuries before then spanking by hand, switch, or belt was common place also punishment by restricting activities, etc. I’m a retiree and have seen the changes; kids get worse as each decade passes! I’m thankful I didn’t raise kids; even my generation sucks as parents, many are total losers now supporting adult dysfunctional “kids” aged 30’s and even 40’s…even supporting slacker grandkids.

      • Gary2

the principal at the Lutheran school paddled many students with a ping pong paddle. The ***** even broke it paddeling me.

I think the poster who said that spanking is a substitute for bad parenting hit the nail on the head.

For those who said they were spanked and turned out OK I am guessing that most are conservative/libertarian and by definition you did not turn out OK.

Gary2 in Wisconsin: Some adult males are willing to pay $300 an hour to be spanked. Of course, the one doing the spanking is usually a woman in a black leather corset and thigh-high stiletto boots.

      • Gary2

You got me on that one. Touche!

  • Camineti, something fishy about him-possible, more going on then simple telling parents its ok to spank…got to watch these self-appointed preachers in home churches……many are shiesters at best and control freaks.Maybe not, but often are……

  • Cinderella Man

I have mixed feelings about spanking. I got beat with a belt alot when I was a kid and I guess living in fear is a good way to control your child. (smirk) What happened to me borderlined on sadistic. I think it should be used as a last resort. I can still see how purple my behind was from the beatings and if anything it made me where pain compliance doesnt work on me anymore cause when I was 12 and my Dad was beating my ass I started laughing so from then on he would just slap or punch me instead. There is a difference between punishment and abuse I think I fell somewhere inbetween those categories. As for this priest being locked up for his words I think we should look at religion as the canary in the coal mine when it comes to supression of free speech. I have no doubt some of you on here hate religion and could care less about the persecution of its members but just remember it could be you and your views they come for next.

    • Michael

Yes, I definitely would never advocate punching or slapping a child or spanking them until they are black and blue.

      • Gary2

spanking is the slippery slope you conservatives are always talking about.

    • ME

By the time a child is 12, it’s beasting, not spanking.

    • Sam

You had abuse, Cinderella Man. Nothing in between punishment or abuse at all. I don’t think a spanking should be on a naked bottom, nor leave a mark. It’s the psychological factor on a 2/3-5 yr old. No one should spank a 2 month old baby!!

  • Jodi

As a child I was spanked and turned out normal. I will never forget, my sister and I were told to go to bed and refused. I was sitting on the stairs and I called my dad a name. He was so mad he spanked me and that was the last time I ever called him a name. Nowadays, parents can’t spank their children and their kids are disrespectful and they will call you names over and over again because there is no course of action. Any kind of speech is under attack. If you don’t like Obamacare you are automatically called a racist. Whatever, someday I hope to God that these people in our gov’t go to jail. When are they going to serve time for stealing my hard earned tax money and my children’s future?

    • laura m.

Jodi: agree; News with Views has good articles by Dave Daubenmire, Chuck Baldwin, and others about slacker churches and preachers who won’t stand up for anything or preach against immorality. All they care about is fat salaries and keeping the members “neutered and entertained” politcal correctness; nothing controversial. If churches don’t stand up there is no one left. 501c3 gelded preachers are using dialectic to take this country down deliberately and getting paid big bucks. Home churches (unregistered) are the way to go.

      • Gary2

here is the thing–you need to get butts in pews. you can not preach to an empty church. need to be more inclusive and not exclusive.

    • Gary2

clearly you did not turn out OK–re-read your post.

  • Watchandpray

In each and every case it is always the free speech and civil liberties of Christians which is under attack.
America is becoming an increasingly hostile place for the Bible believer! It’s nearing midnight for sure.
And pray for this pastor and his family. If we all showed such boldness we’d be in his shoes! Who knows if some day some of us will be.

  • P in AZ

This is, without a doubt, the most frightening thing I’ve ever read on this blog. Being a veteran, it saddens me to say that there may come a time in the near future where it may be necessary to leave this country for my ancesteral home because of things such as this. Because of stories like this, I have already taken the necessary steps to be prepared for this eventuality. Good luck to everyone. Be prepared, have a plan and good luck to you all. God bless.

    • Gary2

if this is the most frightening thing you read on this blog you have not been reading it very much. I think Michaels poor bashing is much more scary than some nut job paster.

  • Pastor Glenn

Is it too much of a stretch to say that our world has gone stark raving mad with evil?

    I’m beginning to wonder.

If we the people let this stand, then anything’s possible – for any of us.

    See you in the Kamps.

  • S. Wiseman

“They are not going to be satisfied until they have either shut all of us up or put all of us in prison.”
Considering the state of the economy, this is the best way for state and local governments to generate revenue. Don’t you know, prisons are big profit enterprises!
So I ask again, now that freedom of speech is gone, what benefit does one derive from being an American Citizen? non-citizens seem to get more benefits in this country.

  • We have to be wise and gentle in living out our Christian life. We live in a culture that is lost, broken and antagonistic towards Biblical Truth. If you search the Bible carefully, you will not find a reference to “spanking”. The word is not there. In our family and in our Church we use Bible words. As God saw fit to deliver His Truth to us, we try to be faithful. WE are told to not let our “…good be evil spoken of…”. I do not know the specifics of this tragic case. I do know, however, that there are many people out there who are deliberately and overtly seeking shock value in their Preaching and teaching. When we do that, we are not Preaching for the glory of God or the edification of the people, rather, our Preaching becomes a threat for the State to do something. That is neither wise nor gentle. We will suffer more and more as time marches on. More and more of us will end up in prison for Preaching Truth. This man is not the first and will certainly not be the last. Let us pray for one another and for our Nation. “Righteousness exaltheth a nation”, God says. We need to pray for a revival of righteous leaders… WE are praying for this man and his family and the Church…

  • xander cross

Michael, you have left alot of information out of this article. He wasn’t advocating spanking with an open hand.

Caminiti would instruct church members and his own adult children to beat crying infants and toddlers with wooden spoons and dowels on their bare bottoms. According to the pastor, the bible encouraged these types of disciplinary beatings in order to punish an infant or toddler who was crying a “selfish” manner.

Michael, you really need to redo this article, because all of this is just trying up stir up christians. This artile is false and please do not quote anyting from Kurt Nimino, he is a terrible liar.

    • Michael

He did not advocate “beating” children.

He did teach them to spank them.

And ooooohhhhhhhhhhh – a wooden spoon? How much “damage” do you think a wooden spoon could possibly do?

And the main point is that he was jailed for his free speech. He did not do any spanking himself.

      • xander cross

LOL. He was not jailed for free speech because there is no such thing as free speech in this country thanks to the laws that was passed in the last tweleve years. The constitution only applies for certain people, when they say “we the people” they are not talking about you and I or tea party or democract. You really need to do more research on history.

He wasn’t advocating spanking with an open hand.

You are just plain wrong on this.

Leaving out informtion also discredits this site as well. You are just trying to pander to the christian group and yes, you did bear false witness by not putting all of the information in the article. Wow.

hey do not be too hard on Michael–I am sure he is not coveting his neighbors oxen so he is good on that one. Probably safe to assume he is not coveting his neighbors man servant so he is also good on that one. 2 out of 3 aint too bad now is it???

You’re surprised? You need to read your bibles. Jesus said that those who are his, will face persecution. The bible predicts that these things will happen. Basically, Jesus said that the world hated him first and that the world will hate you too. Christians will be thrown in jail and some of them killed. It’s been happening for a long time. Just remember that Jesus overcame the world so let your hearts not be troubled. Repent and accept Christ now while there is still time because the time is getting short. For those of you that want to mock my comment, go ahead but it’s your eternity and you cannot say that you weren’t warned.

  • Sam

The news articles aren’t saying Pastor is jailed for suggesting a mere spanking. You should do your homework before you apply your support. Maybe the news articles are misleading too, but this statement “A minister named Philip Caminiti was sentenced to 2 years in prison for simply teaching that parents should spank their children when they misbehave” is not anything I read in the articles. Do a websearch!

    • Michael

What am I factually wrong about?

      • xander cross

John Caminiti told investigators in November he uses a rod or dowel on his two youngest children at home or at church and the scriptures make it clear his behavior is allowed.

He said he does not allow his family to communicate with people outside his religious beliefs and has punished his wife and son by shunning, or confining them to their rooms to have no contact with other family members, until they corrected their disobedience.

For each of his four counts of party of a crime of mental harm to a child, he faces up to 12½ years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine, or both. The penalties for each of his four counts of intentional child abuse are the same as his brother’s.

Clearly Michael, you rush to judgement on this one and did not read the whole story. You just got cauught up with your emotions on this one, especially because he is a christain pastor and you have been programed to accept anything that is christian and not to question christian authority. Yes, you question every other religion and you attack Muslim faith like a rabbit dog, but no, we can’t question the so called christian religion or the so called founding fathers who were elites themselves. Seriously, you really need to do some history reserch.

        • Gary2

Oh I am shunned by the crazy pastor. I am so scared NOT!

      • xander cross

You can’t yell “fire” in a packed therater, so therefore, your right to free speech shall not infringe on others. Or, Michael, do you need to read about the civil rights act about free speech and being “free”. Funny how all of you love the founding fathers, who owned slaves and yet, say that they love the constitution. You really need to read more. I say that with an open heart, not an insult.

  • Billsocal

This is the reason why kids today don’t obey their parents. These idiots in the government have given the kids control over their parents. There are times when parents need to use corporal punishment to teach kids how to behave. My father was a barber and had a razor strap at home. My mother knew how use. I feel like nothing really bad happened to me. My cousin used a wooden spoon on her two kids and they laugh about that. When I go to a local Home Town Buffet the parents do not control their kids at all. They just let their kids run around and what they want. When they grow old you have problem kids because they didn’t learn about how to control themselves.

    • xander cross

I believe you lying especially what you bening saying about people that are a different color than you, espeically muslims. For example, in TN, you christians actually try to destory a Mosque that is paid for by priviate compaines, but yet, you say you support the free marked, hyprocrites, the lot of you.

  • mondobeyondo

Spare the rod, and spoil the child…

And you wonder why the world is so messed up as it is.

    • mondobeyondo

That’s not to say I advocate abuse. There is a difference between discipline and abuse.

Spanking a child is discipline. Beating a child is abuse. Discipline teaches a lesson. Abuse – well… that teaches the child to hate you, which is counterproductive to your original intent.

      • xander cross

This ISN’T about free speech! Sheesh.

Read the original news item. It’s about 8 counts of CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT CHILD ABUSE. *BIG* difference. Need I remind anyone here that you’re NOT free to yell fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire?!

I HATE it when our trusted NON-MSM news sources resort to the same sensationalistic and distortive tactics as MSM uses. Is it REALLY all about gaudy headlines and viewership?! Gimme a break.

  • d. brown

The whole purpose of “punishment” is to bring about an attitude correction that leads to changed behavior. It doesn’t matter if it is a child(not infants) or adults, the principle is the same, behavior modification. If done properly a child learns right from wrong and that there are consequences for wrong behavior then as an adult they behave properly, always realizing that punishment exists for the wrong they do.

The problem is NOT the STATE, it is people who have willingly given up their constitution right through license!! Which the Creator of the Universe TOLD us NOT to do!

This is an out rage. This sentence needs to be over turned. And how is it that he even went to court? I mean who in the congregation would be coward enough, ungodly enough and down right morally challenged would go to the authorities? And this judge, I really hope that this judge doesn’t think she put herself in the judicial seat, surely she knows and remembers that we the people voted to put her as judge. Where can I write this pastor, so I can send him uplifting bible verses so that he can keep his courage and witts. This is truly perverting our justice system. This case and his sentence needs to be over turned and the judge politically removed from her duties. If anyone would like to Pray with me for this pastor please contact me at The so called leaders of our nation might try to take away our freedom of speech, but lets see if they can take away our prayers.

      • A.S.

Don’t bash Michael so much. People make mistakes. Give him this one! And I think the really main point is being missed: Was any of his behavior seriously damaging? Even a leather belt being used on the bare bottom that actually caused bruises back in the days, even until maybe the early 80’s, no one would have made a big deal about it. It was parental right. The child didn’t complain to the cops. The neighbors didn’t call the cops. Not that no one cared, but it was not that serious. Many such children grew up in such homes and turn out fine when adults. That is really the main point: government intrusion into parental rights.

Pretty soon parents will be told how evil they are for homeschooling, being anti-vaccine, eating only local private-farm organic food (especially raw milk), etc…Oh, wait! Government already does this. Schools even do this (remember the public school emergency drills saying the “terrorists are homeschoolers and their parents?”) So to all those that refer to the crimes the pastor supposedly committed, ask yourself if your parents did worse and if that had little or no effect on your current life.

        • xander cross

Okay, you’re right. Maybe I am being too hard on this issue, yes, the pastor does have the right to free speech and I agree with you on that aspect.

      • jesusknight

and where did you see that? post the link plz..

    • Mark

The out rage, is the fact that he, the pastor, gave up any God given, OR constitutionally protected rights, he may have had, when he applied for, AND excepted a license from the STATE (a legal fiction) for his occupation. As I said earlier he is an agent of the STATE byway of his employment to a creature (a 501 c3 corporation) of the STATE. Praying to God ain’t going to help him, God ain’t going to be listening. Because said pastor gave God the finger by his acceptance of that license. He’s only at the mercy of the judge (The hi-Priest of the STATE).

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of Saints understanding; for to know the law is the character of a sound mind.”

Since the preacher knows not the law (not being of sound mind}, he is a ward of the STATE, and the STATE will do with him, what it deems necessary; that IS the law!! …like it, or lump it.

You people that continuously give our Creator the finger, by not obeying His laws, should stop your whining …SIT-DOWN, SHUT-UP AND DO AS YOUR TOLD!

Learn the law, and obey his commandments …problem solved!

  • Never, ever spank a child in anger. Pray first, for peace and remember he/she is only a child. Ask the child if he knows why he’s getting spanked. Spank ON THE BUTT only, with a paddle, never a belt. Then, most importantly, take that child, love that child and pray with that child. Children will know right and wrong, and follow the Lord all his life. I’ve seen it done with my children and grandchildren. Now Glen, where do I put this, couldn’t find a place on the email. jThis is so very important for parents to know.

  • Omit the last 2 sentences. forgot they were there lol

  • Scott

This is a free speech issue. If someone took Caminiti’s words too far and was excessive then hold that individual responsible. Hopefully this will be appealed to a higher court and overturned on first amendment grounds.

  • DLD

Freedom of speech has long been destroyed just now more people are seeing it because the government is expanding what they make you shut up about. We are losing all of our rights people not just freedom of speech. I for one am not religious but had to read this article because I still believe in the Constitution and our rights. If things continue it will be required we fight for our freedom and I for one will gladly do so if it is the only option given to me.

How could they constitutionally tell this preacher that when he gets out he can have no leadership position in any church just because of a speech he gave??? Where do they get off telling him where he can worship and who he can talk to, and where he can or can’t work?? This is not Russia, or China dammit!! That judge needs a good refresher course on the Constitution, as well as a good butt kicking herself. I bet she never got spanked as a kid…or was beaten, instead of spanked on the behind like she should have been.

  • Rockie

Sorry but spanking a two month old child with a paddle or a rod creeps me out to say the least. Who the hell wrote the Bible? Not my beloved beautiful God who loved his children into life. It was a few men who also thought it was cool to stone a women to death, to sell children to their churches run by the most perverted and other charming remedies to suit their dispicable way of thinking. How many hundreds of years did it even take the church to submit to the idea that women even had a soul. Wake up people, God is always available to you with the brain and free will he gave you. Don’t be brainwashed by these idiots who wear a colar or say they are speaking for God. They don’t even know God.

    • Scott

“It was a few men who also thought it was cool to stone a women to death”

      John 8:7:

“So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

You obviously have very little understanding of the Bible.

“…A Black Earth church pastor who taught his flock to discipline their children, some as young as 2 months old, with wooden spoons and rods was sentenced Friday to two years in prison…

Criminal predators are literally eating the faces off of people, and yet authorities want to go after pastors that are encouraging their congregations to follow the teachings of the Bible?….”

beating babies who are 2 months old is following the teachings of the Bible?!?!?!? Jesus wept!

The Bible says “don’t kick against the “pricks” meaning you could harm yourself but to heap coals of fire on their heads”. (pray for them pricks) Their are many pricks in the Government and also in your neighbourhoods. These nasty people if we can call them that either were not chastised as younsters or they were over done . Personally I don’t think that they were overdone but a product of some stupid teachers that could not discern their corrucium guidelines and put their own hate message on all. Where do these jerks get off?? I was spanked hunderds of times. I can remember saying a word that I heard but sounded like something else. I didn’t understand at the time but later in life the reality became real. “we” as a whole can’t let any thing creep in or else if you do everything is lost. Remember the “word-(God’s)” it is better to spank a child and correct them otherwise they will grow up to hate you. All of these assholes hate their parents and every thng that stands for rightiousness. I am now retired with a small education and my 5 childern have grown up amd are self supporting not because I gave them millions of $$$ but millions of love and guidance with their disapline and all are happy today and finanically secure because of their upbringing.

A word to the feds and other agencies – ” mind your own business”. I do hope that when you pricks retire or even before that you are held under by your peers and kicked hard when you are finally down. What the hell is the matter with you dumb ***********. You are of your father the devil “and don’t sneer at this for the spirit world is real” – get a life.

All those pictures of missing Childern on the milk cartens etc. are real and those unfortunant ones were sacurificed to the “Devil”. Why are those ones not protected? It’s because most of the so called Government people are involved with the ocult so why should us Bible beleiving people be ararmed, just let those “PRICKS” RUN THE WORLD!!!! Say not – pray for introvention before its too late.

God is still in control, over the corrupt authorities, criminals, and everyone else. i would suggest that our Lord allowed this questionable bible preacher to be put in prison by that judge. “the kings heart is in the Lord’s hand”(proverbs). in these last days our Righteous God will protect His children, He always has and always will. will true belivers be imprisoned and killed, for their faith? yes, but it will be for their faith in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. for our own sin we will reap the consequences. who was it, Tucker? christian lady who murdered some people. she was a saved sinner, and she said i should pay the fine for the crime. look at son of sam, he’s a saved sinner. sin is sin brothers and sisters. the little white lie, will land us in hell as well as a murder, without the forgiveness provided by our Savior. if you love your child you will discipline him, just as God tells us to in the bible. finding the truth and hearing the whole story is right also. and remember, trust God, and keep our nose out of his business, and take care of the responsibilities he’s given us down here. by His grace alone, leon

  • Johnny Brainetree

The author of this article is so right in stating, “this should be incredibly sobering for all of us.” It speaks volumes! The Constitution is a dead letter receiving only lip service from politicians, even though they solemnly raised their hand before God and man and swore to protect from all enemies foreign and domestic. Many of them are the greatest enemies of all, because they are turning this nation, that once excited the admiration and wonder of the world, into a tyranny.

Believe it or not, the Bible predicts that the United States would evolve from a gentle, peace loving nation into a totalitarian one. Where is this in the Bible? It’s here: The second beast of Revelation has a lamb like appearance, but finally speaks as a dragon, enforcing the mark of the beast. This second beast of Revelation 13 is none other than the United States of America.

I grew up with a mile from this church and attended class with the pastors children (there are many..) They all turned out to be very polite and normal in my opinion. Top of the class most of them and involved in many sports. I don’t agree with what he says but being arrested for speech is very dangerous. It starts with a person most people dont agree with so they let the constitutional miscarriage slip. Then it sets precident and soon you cant say anything in defiance of the government or are arrested. It happened in the Soviet Union, Germany, and countless other times thoughout history. Beware.

My friend has two kids, one is 8 and one is 2. The 8 year old is constantly throwing tantrums and doesn’t listen. The same is going on with the 2 year old, she just sits and watches them and tells them nicely to stop. She then complains that she has no control. I’ve told her COUNTLESS times to give them a quick smack on the but! It’s the same as training a dog, you have to teach them that if they do something bad, there is going to be consequences. Parents are too soft these days. They need to understand it’s not their job to make their kids like them, but to raise them to be responsible adults who contribute to society.

Get your facts straight. I know these families, and families who have left this cult. Phil Caminit is brainwashing the members of his church, and I do not believe 2 years is long enough. What they are doing is abuse, and it is not Biblical.

  • John

The problem with spanking is it can go too far. My parents whipped me on the bare bottom with a belt, which was pretty common for our area. However, it escalated to whipping me completely naked, then whipping my penis with the belt. Spanking should be banned because it can turn into abuse.

    • Clay

The problem with giving ‘Time Outs’ is that it can go too far. My parents gave me 5 minute Time Outs on a stool in the corner, which was pretty common for our area. However, it escalated to 30 minutes standing up, then three hours naked on the back porch. Time Outs should be banned because it can turn into abuse. This is a good example of a logical fallacy. The problem isn’t with spankings, Time Outs, guns, texting or anything else. Anything “could” become abusive. This is an absurd argument.

Spanking is discipline and just because some people feel its not shouldn’t mean they make it a law and bann it everyone has their own way of parenting you can’t tell people how to raise their kids people need to mind their business and worry about their own lives instead of other peoples and spanking is the easiest best way to discipline your kid abuse and discipline are two different things if you ban spanking lets ban stupid parents and parents who let their kids do whatever they want

  • Tina

First of all if the government would stop trying to do things their own way, and start following the word of God they will learn that it says in the bible to spank a child, to put this man in jail for doing what God has told him to do is sad. These people that say spanking makes kids more aggressive need to stop living a lie and look around. All of this crime from our kids who have not been spank is out of control. Why because someone had to say spanking is wrong. now look at the world. There is more crime then when parents did spank their child.

    • disqus_ruwlYzRtsW

The bible does NOT say to spank children. It doesn’t even say, spare the rod spoil the child. It says that parents should guide their children. A rod is used as example as a shepherd would use it to guide sheep.
