19 Signs That America Has Become A Crazy Control Freak Nation Where Almost Everything Is Illegal

Do you think that you are free?  Most Americans would still probably answer “yes” to that question, but is that really the case?  In the film Edge of Darkness, Mel Gibson stated that “everything is illegal in Massachusetts”.  Well, the same could pretty much be said for the United States as a whole.  Our lives are governed by millions of laws, rules and regulations and more are being piled on all the time.  In fact, 40,000 new laws just went into effect in January.  Every single new law restricts your freedom just a little bit more.  The truth is that America has become a crazy control freak nation where virtually everything that we do is highly regulated.  You have probably broken multiple laws today that you don’t even know exist.  We have all become criminals and lawbreakers because almost everything is illegal at this point.  Our politicians are convinced that they are “making life better” by piling gigantic mountains of laws on to our backs, and law enforcement authorities are convinced that they are helping society by “cracking down on crime”, but the reality is that our liberties and our freedoms are being strangled by all of this government oppression.  This is not the way that America is supposed to work.

Yes, every society needs laws.  But the laws should be short enough and simple enough that everybody can read them and understand them.

In America today, there is no possible way that any of us could ever read all of the laws that apply to us.  Most of us just live our daily lives and try to do the “right” thing.  But there is no guarantee that men with guns will not show up at your door one evening because of some obscure regulation that you have broken.

The following are 19 signs that America has become a crazy control freak nation where almost everything is illegal….

#1 One California town is actually considering making it illegal to smoke in your own backyard.

#2 In Louisiana, a church was recently ordered to stop giving out water because it did not have a permit to do so.

#3 In the United States it is illegal to operate a train that does not have an “F” painted on the front.  Apparently without that “F” we all might not know where the front of the train is.

#4 In many U.S. states is it now illegal to collect rain that falls from the sky on to your own property.

#5 In America today it is illegal to milk your cow and sell the milk to your neighbor.  If you do this, there is a good chance that federal agents will raid your home at the crack of dawn.

#6 In Washington D.C. it is illegal not to recycle cat litter.

#7 It is illegal to give a tour of the monuments in Washington D.C. without a license.

#8 In the United States it is illegal to sell natural cures for cancer – even if they work.

#9 In the state of Massachusetts it is illegal to deface a milk carton.

#10 In the state of Alabama, bear wrestling is completely illegal.

#11 In Fairbanks, Alaska it is illegal to give alcoholic beverages to a moose.

#12 In Lake Elmo, Minnesota it is illegal to sell pumpkins or Christmas trees that are grown outside city limits.

#13 There is a federal law that makes it illegal to be “annoying” on the Internet.

#14 If you register with a false name on MySpace or Facebook you could potentially “spend five years in federal prison“.

#15 In Hazelwood, Missouri it is illegal for little girls to sell girl scout cookies in the front yards of their own homes.

#16 All over the United States lemonade stands run by children are being shut down because they do not have the proper permits.

#17 In Florida, it is illegal to bring a plastic butter knife to school.

#18 In San Juan Capistrano, California it is illegal to hold a home Bible study without a “conditional use permit“.

#19 In the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania it is illegal to make even a single dollar from a blog unless you buy a $300 business license.

Sadly, this list of crazy laws and ridiculous regulations could be thousands long.

We are a nation run by a bunch of control freaks that do not care about our liberties and our freedoms.

Every once in a while, John Stossel does some really great reporting.  An example of this is posted below.  In this 40 minute video, Stossel goes into great detail about how almost everything is illegal in America today.  In particular, the first 20 minutes are absolutely excellent.  If you have not seen this yet, I highly encourage you to check it out….

So why do we have so many laws and regulations?

Well, those that run things actually believe that we cannot be trusted with liberty and freedom.

They honestly are convinced that society will be better if they regulate our lives as much as possible.

This kind of “Big Brother” thinking is very dangerous.  A lot of other horrible totalitarian societies started out with “good intentions” as well.

Yes, having millions of laws, rules and regulations does make society more “predictable” but it also makes it more like a giant prison.

This is not what our founding fathers intended, and this is not what America is supposed to be about.

Do any of you have any crazy laws or ridiculous regulations to add to this list?  If so, please feel free to post them below….

  • xander cross

I agree with number 10. Bears can kill you and many people think that they’re zangief from street fighter.

  • r.bitting

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the gentile. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is writted, ” The just shall live by faith “… Romans 1:16-17.. God desires that all be saved, but theres only one way, through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for your sins, which is the ONLY WAY your sins can be passed over by God. When you turn to Christ, God then sees you as righteous and your sin he will remember no more. Turn to Christ and be saved today, God bless.

    • Brother (or Sister) what are you gonna do when it becomes illegal to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Even your post that you may think is anonymous will be illegal. All the government has to do is undermine the “free exercise clause” of the First Amendment by saying it is for the good of the nation that “religious fundamentalist not be able to preach hate and proselytize people.” All religions will fall under that law: Christians, Muslims, cultists, etc. You may be telling yourself “that could never happen in America, we were founded on religious freedom!” But 12 years ago no one would have ever thought that an American citizen could be detained indefinitely by the military without being charged with a crime, without being tried, and without recourse to a lawyer. But now that is the law (NDAA). Personally, when they make it illegal to preach the Gospel, I am gonna “obey God rather than man” (Acts 5:29) because I am willing to be persecuted, go to jail, suffer, or die for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

      • r.bitting

What leads you to believe that I won’t? I will continue to speak because i’m not afraid, you think because I didn’t use my first name, that I’m somehow worried? I didn’t use my first name because it didn’t seem important when I started commenting on this site, but just to put you at ease, my first name is Robert… Besides, it isn’t like I know that your name is really Chris Smith.

        • Gary2

dude you would piss yourself and take the number of the beast if you were made to or be killed.

          WWMD (What would magog do)???

          • r.bitting

            Not so.

          • r.bitting

P.S Gary, you should be careful what you say, God is not mocked. It could be that he might decide to put an end to your constant provoking and deal with you according to your irreverent foolishness.

          • Al E. Katt

Is that you, Gary Mask? Either way, you’re STILL nothing but a trolling *************!!!

        • FrankIacono

          Well said r.bitting, well said.

        • xander cross

@r.bitting. It very interesting that you can speak for a god and think that people that don’t agree with you are going to suffer. That is typical white, racist talk.

      • Juan

Did you miss #18 In San Juan Capistrano, California it is illegal to hold a home Bible study without a “conditional use permit”.

  • Cleo

It is illegal in KS to hand fish, or “noodle” as it is sometimes called. Legal in most other states. Hand fishing involves using your hand to go in holes along the river bank (under water of course), feeling for a big catfish, grabing it by the mouth and pulling it out. I wouldn’t do it anyway. Most of the State wildlife codes are getting so involved that you really need to check before you do much of anything. What can be “in season” in one county is “out of season” in an adjacent county. A legal length fish from one lake is too short in another. And you need special stamps for migratory birds.

  • imaplaneiac

Freedom is bestowed upon us by Almighty God, our Creator – it’s NOT government granted! The control freak morons in government who yearn to control every aspect of our life – EVEN the toilet in our bathroom – will inevitably be accountable to their Maker!

I watched segments of ” Illegal Everything “, over the weekend. Nearly at the end of this report was a segment about prostitution at ” ranches ” in Nevada. The ” ladies ” who appeared on camera INSISTED that ” this is what we WANT to do “! ( Sell their bodies for money ). How demented is THAT!? This is another vivid contrast between now and 1950! Decades ago WOMEN cherished modesty and protected their chastity! Now, most ” women ” cannot even define the words ” modesty ” and ” chastity “!? They too will be accountable … for their actions.

    • gary2

stossel is a right wing *******************.

      • Hefsmaster

You are in constant need of attention… Politics is not 2 dimensional left to right only. It is 3 dimensional. Look up “nolan chart”. It will put you in perspective as to where you stand. Stossel would be high center just under anarchy. You gary, would be far left on helpless social justice…

      • libertyin413

So you disagree with what Stossel is saying? So the Progressive [sic] mantra now is “destroy all lemonade stands, especially those belonging to kids”? Sounds strange to me. Honestly, how many more laws and regulations need to be enacted in your mind before we are all “equal and protected”? It seems to me the more laws and regulations put in place, the more enslaved and unequal we become. And as far as Jon Stossel being a ‘right-wing ******”; so Progressives have now abandoned the philosophy of no aggressive wars of occupation, equality under the rule of law, abolishing the practice of crony-capitalism/corporatism, etc… (all things Stossell, Judge Napolitano, Ron Paul, and other libertarians ascribe to)?

      • BenjiK

Hefsmaster is absolutely correct. John Stossel is anything BUT “rightwing”. Just because a person isn’t “far left” doesn’t automatically make them “far right”. There are many in this country, myself included, who believe the manufactured left-vs-right paradigm is nothing more than a useful tool to divide and ultimately control large segments of the population. The “leaders” on the left tell you exactly what YOU want to hear while the leaders on the right do the exact same to their base. After all, the biggest threat to Big Government, ie; Big Money, is a population united, not divided.

    • _pH_

Ah, so I expect you also support the bible passages commanding slavery and condemning anyone who says “***************” to being stoned to death as “morality”.
Also, in 1950 people were modest out of fear, not religion. Anything out of the ordinary could get them stuck with the McCarthy witch-hunt. On top of that, 1950 was before that whole civil rights movement and the push towards freedom, including sexual freedom. You know, that “god-given” freedom.

    • Ryan S.

Stossel describes him self as a traditional libertarian. Thought you ought to know.

  • vancouver mark

What, you WANT people to give booze to the moose??

    • Chris

Hey in some parts of Alaska you are lucky to even see another person. If you can’t drink with a moose who can you drink with? hehe

    • Sylvie

  • John

You could show this list to many Americans and all they would say to you is ” ahh who cares man , why worry about that stuff just live your life and have fun ”

The only thing you can do is talk to friends and family about these issues and hope they start doing their own research but until then all you can do is hope and let them figure it out on their own . ” you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink the water “

  • gary2

There is a federal law that makes it illegal to be “annoying” on the Internet.

I guess all the conservatives that post on this site are in trouble. To say they are annoying is an understatement.

    • Chris

saith the guy who comes to spout inflammatory remarks on a daily basis on a blog that is obviously directed at people who are his polar opposite….I think it’s fair to say most people who frequent this blog, and considering your constant berating of Christians probably the author to, wish you would just go to the Daily Kos or Media matters and never return. You are the embodiment of hate and envy.

      • Gary2

        another intellegent rightwing post NOT!

yep that canadian study proving conservatives are not as smart as the average person is sooooo true!

        • Bob Marshall

Maybe someone should get the January 2010 publication on whistleblower and read the psychodynamics of the radical liberal mind.Someone seems to fit right in with Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid’s mind set.

    • BenjiK

Actually I was going to advise you to be on the look-out for the “black helicopters” Gary! :) I kid because I care, hope things are going well for you and your family.

  • gary2

In the state of Massachusetts it is illegal to deface a milk carton.

And here I was just leaving to the store with my sharpie to deface some milk cartons. Guess its good I live in WI.

Or not as our soon to be former drop out gov is just now signing legislation that repeals the penalties for wage discrimination against women.

You repubes are so fing stupid as you are alienating every moderate and women with Ayatollah Santorm and the other crazy wingnut war on women.

You are going down so hard in November. Are you trying to loose?

    • Imam

Good thing you are one of the “tolerant” crowd.

    • Chris

People have things called property rights, part of natural rights. As such, employers are entitled to pay whatever they want to whoever they want as well as charge whatever they want to whatever customers they chose to cater to. If employees don’t like their wages or treatment under one employer, they will gravitate towards employers who cater to their needs. People don’t need a benevolent totalitarian government to protect them from perceived injustice at the expense of other peoples natural rights….

      • Gary2

There are things called child labor laws and anti discrimination laws becuase employers would do both if they could. They need to be regulated heavily to prevent them abusing their employees.

      • Gay Veteran

        libertarian BS

no minimum wage laws means a race to the bottom, soon you’ll be working for Vietnam level wages

        • guido

The funny thing is, you don’t have to work at a place that offers that pay if you don’t want to. Seems to me, in a truly free market with little government interference, you could pay people whatever you wanted and they would decide if it was worth their time. It’s certainly how I decide what jobs I take.

    • Slaughter Slasher

“You are going down so hard in November. Are you trying to loose?”

      Well, DUH.

  • mondobeyondo

    Oh my gosh.

Think I’m going to take a trip to Alabama and wrestle a couple of bears. Then I’ll hop on Air Alaska and give a wild moose a can of Budweiser.

That should get me 20 years in prison right there.

    • mondobeyondo

Inmate: “So, what are you in for?”
Moi: “I was busted for giving Jack Daniels to a squirrel. How ’bout you?”
Inmate: “I’m here for first-degree murder. Dude – seriously?!”
Moi: “Yeah, man. They got me on a drunken squirrel rap. I might be out in 7 or 8 years…”

    • Michael

LOL – you always make us smile Mondo.

      • mondobeyondo

I try to. Reality can be very brutal sometimes.

  • One reason everything has to be illegal:

The march of Fascism continues on…

  • William

Americans get, in most cases, the governance for which they vote. Yes, YOU voted for the county commissioner, or city council member, or state representative or senator, or US Congress member. If you do not like the ever decreasing liberty and freedom in America, look in the mirror. YOU voted for this, most of which is based on LIES, just like 911……LIES. While the US is probably past the era of free and fair elections (witness the massive voter fraud in Ohio in 2004 that sent the Chimp back to the White House), voting is the only peaceful means for change. Voting OUT incumbents in Nov of 2012, regardless of party affiliation, just might start the turnaround away from total suppression and subjugation, which creeps closer each day.

  • ************************* that I don´t live in the US of A!

Here are some you can add to the list:

    1. A United States federal law makes it illegal to issue a fake Weather Bureau forecast. Source: 18 U.S.C. 2074)

    2. In Florida: Unmarried couples may not commit “lewd acts” and live together in the same residence.

    3. In Mississippi: A man may not seduce a woman by lying, and claiming he will marry her.

  • justadad

There are only two laws necessary.
    1. Love the Lord, Your God with all your heart, mind and strength.
    2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

If you don’t keep the first one, the second one is moot: Love finds its ultimate defintition in the self-sacrificing personhood of Jesus (God so loved …)

It stands to reason that the further this nation gets away from the first law the more laws are required to constrain it. But without the conviction of the first, our nation has become a society of lawless renegades.

I recommend a “complete social overhaul of the human mind”. This brain (and soul) washing can only be complete with the greatest detergent ever known – The blood of Jesus Christ.

You are becoming a mini-archnemesis here, aren’t you? Kind of like you beoming the Joker to my Batman. However, I disagree with you of course. Surprise! Surprise! Plenty of people don’t subscribe to the first rule and yet obey the second, yours truly being a prime example. Why? Because even those of us with no religious leanings still value life and the promise that it holds. Many of us who do not hold religious leanings don’t subscribe to war, sanctions, embargoes, regime change, the death penalty, abortion on demand, and all those other banes of evil that many people worship. Explain this for me. How can we ignore the first of your rules and obey the second, assuming that your hypothesis is correct? (Which by the way it isn’t) But your contorted and twisted explanation for all of this will be loads of fun to hear……………(LOL)

      • justadad

Do you really expect the readers of this blog to accept the idea that you are wiser and more loving than Jesus Christ?
I was quoting Him on laws 1.& 2.
You cannot subscribe to the second because God is the definition and measure of the love required to fulfill the 2nd.
Your love, if that’s what you have been showering me with, Batman, is hatred, contempt and ridicule in comparison.

Like I said, your contorted and twisted explanation for all this would be fun to hear!

          1. I never said that I was wiser than anyone, you or **** included…………..

          2. Second, I asked a simple question. How can people with no religious leanings obey your second rule while ignoring the first?

Obviously you have no answer, as you have substituted any chance for intellectual discourse with faith based lunacy.

As for the Joker Batman analogy, I think it fits in this case. I believe in a fair and just society while you simply want to see the world burn with a scorched earth policy if people don’t “submit and obey” in any form you decide. ********* would be proud of you, wouldn’t he?…………..

          • justadad

You speak out of both sides of your mouth.
You ridicule Christianity (which implies you do think youself wiser than Jesus and then deny it).
You hold Michael, me and any of your detractors in comtempt and use arrogant ad hominem language to describe us (“feces infested”).
You accuse rational thinkers of alcoholism and drug abuse.
And then you say “I keep the 2nd Law, I love my neighbor as myself.”
            I answered your question.
You really don’t keep the second law because your definion of love falls far short of self-sacrificial love required to fulfill it.
You just believe you are obeying the 2nd law but you do so by reducing it to “as long as they leave me alone, I will leave them alone.”
You have substituted your morailty (righteousness) in place of Christ’s. You are saying you obey the command of God and then deny that He exists.

            As to faith.
            Everyone believes in something.
You admit you believe in “the promise that it (life) holds.”
You have personified life (given it human attributes) and placed your trust and hope in some future evolutionary brainwashing, or in your words “complete social overhaul of the human mind.”
How can life or society produce a higher understanding of morality?
            You have faith in life.
I have faith in Jesus Christ (“I am the Life”)
If you condemn my faith as lunacy, you have condemed your own.
I base my faith on reality you seem to get your creed from comic books.

    • TK

Great Point Justadad! Your comments are refreshing to read.

Wrong answer! More like stale and feces infested…………….

    • macman

      Only one law is needed.

No god needed to figure that out. Simple enough. Any idiot can understand.

  • 1stVARifleman

Gary 2, you are so out of touch with reality it is hard to put into words. People like you who think they are so smart and so benevolent that they can dictate to other people their will by law is absolutely ridiculous. Progressives (socialists) like you and Neocons (fascists) are the exact reason I feel there is no hope for this country and we are destined for another Civil War. Just as all great Empires of the past had multiple Civil Wars so will we. I can only hope for some retention of the Constitutional Republic somewhere, because that is where my loyalties will be no matter what. But if that day comes I know people like you won’t pick up arms because you have no true brain, true heart, or true will to sacrifice everything for something truly far greater than yourself. It only took 3% of Colonial America to defeat the British; it won’t even take 1% today to defeat your Fabian cause and the Bankers NWO. The day is coming and I will have no remorse for the Progressives (you Gary2), the Neocons, the Banksters, or the blind Sheeple (you again Gary2) for you all will reap what you have sown. However, I will have remorse for the innocents that will be lost and the destruction of my homeland, for I know VA again is destined to be in the center of all this due to its proximity to DC. (To DHS or any other ABC agency bureaucrat monitoring this site, don’t interpret this as if I have some grand plan in place. I have no intentions of taking up arms, but I know from my lifetime study of history you all will force the population truly loyal to the Constitutional Republic to do so. Just as the Redcoats, Nazis, Soviets, and Communists under Mao were doing their jobs, so will you right?)

Also Gary2, I’m tired of you not being objective and completely disrespectful on this site. If I were Michael I would have banned you a long time ago. It is fine to disagree but the way you go about it only makes you look more stupid than your argument already is. And loose it not lose, learn how to spell and proof read. Another thing, I’m willing to bet an overwhelming majority of people who frequent this site are not Republicans but Libertarians; there is a huge difference try to educate yourself away from the Corporate Media and Corporate Education system.

    Long Live the Constitutional Republic

    • Gary2

it is hard to put into words..

This is a common problems republicans have. Unless the word is 1-2 syllables or shorter they get confused. There was a study from Canada proving conservatives are not as smart as the average person so it is not surprising that you have a hard time putting words together to form a sentance much less a coherent sentance.

Just go back to listening to rush. Us progressives will be taking back the country and fixing things.

      • justadad

You keep referencing the Canadian study and repeating the falsehood that it proves that conservatives are not as smart as the average person.
Your interpretation of the study would be the same as someone hearing that “all squares are rectangles” and coming to the conclusion that “all rectangles are squares”.
Read the study again, slowly, but this time I suggest you get someone to explain it to you.

Gary2 was only half right. He forgot to add the rightwing liberals who support obomber to the dummy category…………..Rightwing lunatics in the republican wing of the war party clearly are a few fries short of a happy meal, but the liberals who think like republicans are a few cards short of a full deck…………..

      • Camaro68ss

Gary2, you spelled “sentance” wrong. its spelled sentence. Must be hard to be corrected by a dumb right winger.

  • Really?

Do you like driving your car whenever you want? Do you like buying the food you enjoy, the beverage of your choice? Do you relish the opportunity to nurture your children and help them grow? Do you value the ability to choose with whom you spend your leisure time? Do you grow any of your own food (doubt it…)? Do you have a dog? Cat? Do you recognize the medicinal value of many naturally growing plants? Do you demand to being able to use the restroom in private?

Well too *************** bad. In some aspect all of these are restricted, some quickly becoming completely illegal.

Personally I would love to be able to drink real, raw, probiotic, non-hormone containing, with all the good stuff still in there, milk. I can’t unless I buy a cow. Even then I’d be prosecuted were I to give it to my children. All kinds of roads that you simply cannot travel unless you purchase (from a private company) an electronic device which allows DOT to monitor your location via signal emitters along the roadway. Can’t send your child to school without worry that they’ll inadvertently get you arrested by telling the teacher you target practice on the weekends with real rifles. Not enough time nor space in this comment to expound on the rise of agenda based education, while at the same time the decline of actual instruction. Watch out! If you don’t pack your kids lunch with enough processed *********** the teacher will take it and replace it with approved genetically modified, chemically altered, food like products. What if I want to start an all male, all white club of like minded individuals. White males are darn near the only group of people in this country that could not start such a club. I would love to breed my beautiful, smart, motivated, and exceptionally attuned hunter of a dog, but it’s technically illegal for her to even have lady parts. Can’t buy alcohol at (different places, different times and days) 0100, nor on Sunday. Within ten years drones in our skies will be normal, and while it may not be perfected as of yet for areal use, the technology exists to watch you take a poo through your roof and walls.

Have you ever been placed in handcuffs for telling a police officer he couldn’t search your car? Your house? Have you had your door broken down at 4 am, dog shot, children and wife smashed up against a way and them slammed on their faces by ‘police’, until they realized they dropped a numeral in the address and that your nice family of four in the middle class neighborhood probably isn’t making meth? Are you a veteran of any recent wars? If so you might have some idea what it’s like to be treated as suspicious, to be dealt with as potentially dangerous in any ‘police’ encounter.

I can do this all freaking day.

The fundamental difference between you and I, the real thing that sets us apart, is not that we vote differently or have a different moral code. It’s that while I am okay with you having the freedom to do what you may, regardless of how it may offend my sensibilities, you would have this freedom regulated to a set of guidelines, within which one might live in relative safety from governmental persecution.

Oh, and for the record, I have been denied jobs because I am not a woman. I have been denied promotions because I am not a woman. I’ve been pushed out of a job because I am not a woman. Given worse shifts, more work, and far more BS because I am not a woman (ever worked in a bar??)

And another thing… If I want to draw on a milk carton (it doesn’t specify whether or not it’s pre or post purchase, but lets say its post since defacing another persons property is already illegal, as it should be, among a handful of other things) I’ll draw on a milk carton. I’ll even cut one up if I have to.

    • Really?

As this was my first post I wasn’t aware of what is or is not acceptable to you, Michael, in the way of slightly altered profanities. I’ll be sure to write more accordingly in the future. Having said that, would you mind adding the words ‘what if’, or something along those lines, to the redacted beginning of the sentence which now reads ‘I want to start an all male…’ I feel that as it stand now I am being misrepresented.

      • Michael

        All fixed up.

It’s posts like this that would benefit greatly from a “like” function. “Like” plus 10! You hit the nail on the head several times, as a matter of fact, you pounded it home! Bravo….

    • Gary2

I do not think you read my post. We probably agree more than disagree regarding these goofy laws, especially the lemonade stand.

I remember as a kid me and my younger sister had a kool aid stand. Did not make too much money but we did have fun and drank a of of sugar water ie koolaid.

      • Really?

I read allot of your responses in allot of articles, Gary.

Once upon a time liberals were there to safeguard the vulnerable against economic and social exploitation and appeal to the collective conscience on matters that were not fiscally rewarding but none the less important. ‘Conservatives’ were responsible for ensuring economic progress was made and reminding everybody that the principles of self reliance and small governmental influence would naturally allow people to be the best they could.

Neither of these ideologies can exist without the other but never the less in constant struggle they will be; a very natural and ancient form of checks and balances. Being a liberal you will have a hard time seeing the negative in that set of responsibilities, while I’m sure you could write pages espousing the evils of conservatism. I certainly wont try and argue with you on those points; the years we will both waste on those arguments, I think, will suffice. I will only ask that you respect both sides of the coin, and realize that by ‘solving’ the problem the inevitable end is unpleasant regardless of who is doing the math.

Actually one more request; that you vet fully any and all ideas, persons, or affiliations against your own personal morality, wherever from derived. liberalism above all other politicos is conscience driven; it is by abandoning this conscience in pursuit of ‘the greater good’ that you fall down.

  • Alex

Accountable to who? You? Apparently you feel justified in passing judgement on others, something that the bible is strongly against. Judge not lest ye be judged. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, and while we’re going to be talking about women being respectable and accountable for their actions, let’s consider that the bible also says that women should not teach, they should be silent and give authority to the man. From the sounds of it, even your own bible says that these women are to be silent and subservient to men. At least they are getting paid to get screwed. What’s your excuse?

I’ll bet you’d have no problem at all with a ‘control freak government’ just so long as it’s christians that control it. What are you complaining about having so many rules for? You’re just fine abiding by the multitude of rules in an ancient book that are just as stupid. I’ll bet that you are wearing clothes made of more than one material right this second, that you don’t rest on Sunday, steadfastly refusing to do any work at all, or that you go check into a hotel when you have your period, since you’re ‘unclean’ and all.

Talk about control freaks. Christians are among the worst offenders. Self righteous, judgmental, and obsessed with pushing “god’s law” on others. You can do whatever religious buggery you like, but when you feel that freedom of religion means that you can interfere with the lives of others, you are crossing the line.

Why don’t you go pray about it? See what god says you should do. If the voices in your head don’t answer, the answer is in your bible, or better yet, go ask your husband. He’ll make your decisions, just like god says he should.

    • 1stVARifleman

I don’t believe any government whether Christian or secular should dictate to its population what to do with their private lives. Again you progressives are missing the fact this is a libertarian website. Also read John Locke and learn about Natural Rights! Quit listening to the corporate media and corporate run education system. Libertarians want to be left alone and they want Progressives to be left alone too. We don’t want anyone telling you how to live your life. That’s why I’m willing to bet majority of people who read these articles don’t support Rick Santorum, but RON PAUL! Wake up Progressive! Take a step outside the left right box! Quit being so naive!

      Long Live the Constitutional Republic!

    • seanipie

Perhaps it’s because we’re right? Before you bash Christianity, you should educate yourself on it, seeing as how you have misinterpreted much of it – even if you’re right about the women.

      • xander cross

Oh, I am educated on christianity and yes, it a slave religion. I refuse to believe in the slave masters bible used to kill other races of people. Jesus was black and was potrayed as a black male before any type of european picture of him, but your cathloic pope made sure that he was descripted as a white european male.

    • cobra54r

Alex: Quote; “let’s consider that the bible also says that women should not teach, they should be silent and give authority to the man. From the sounds of it, even your own bible says that these women are to be silent and subservient to men.” Apostle Paul is quoting the babylonian talmud, one of the evilest books ever written. Take another quote from the talmud, “one million arabs are less than one jewish fingernail.” That is a very anti-semitic book. Arabs come from Shem ( Semitic people ) If you google quotes from the Talmud, you will see evil, similar quotes. Paul was criticizing the Sanhedrin ( Justice system ) for telling women to keep silent. Do yourself a favor for real Alex, don’t hate Yahushua ( Jesus’s real name ) because so many people who commit evil do so in his name, they are gonna be in Deep ************* for taking his holy name in vain, and even more deeper if you hate him, yet you never really knew him. That is why they made political churches, black vs white, left vs right, protestant vs catholic, am I making sense yet? A few more things about me. Christians despise me, because I expose them as wolves in sheeps clothing. I am not a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Athiest. I am Joseph, a 28 yr old smith who takes care of his family, reads the Bible at home, and only at home, in Greek, and Hebrew so I could debunk all the snakes. Alex, I’m either *************** you, or I’m telling you the truth. If you wanna get to know Jesus, the last place on earth you should ever attempt such a thing, is at a man-made church. Remember it was the Church-people who viciously beat than crucified Jesus, innocent and full of love, for two reasons. One, he didn’t murder all the romans and give them real estate right now! Two, because he did the same thing I am doing right now, calling them snakes, wolves, hypocrites, and most of all tell you Alex not to go there, read at home. Those people murdered him, then they quote him. In the end, it will all catch up with em. Peace be upon you bro.

  • blakmira

Nothing wrong with #10 and #11.
Dogfighting and cockfighting are already illegal. Greedy, ignorant people feel the need to make profit off the misery of animals, and harming an animal should come with a price.
#10 While “bear wrestling” may sound funny, it’s basically making a wild animal a captive and forcing them to perform in dangerous situations, with the tactic of repeated physical abuse to “train” and “control” them.
#11 Feeding any type of mind-altering poison like alcohol to a moose endangers their lives and anyone around them.

Bottom line, making laws to keep animals safe from stupid or savage humans doesn’t threaten anyone’s freedom. Although people should be free to abuse or medicate themselves stupid any way they choose, they should never be free to harm anyone else, animal or human, except in extreme cases of self defense.

    • mondobeyondo

Okay then. I’ll stick to trying to put a choke hold on a giraffe.
While it’s drunk, of course. I don’t stand a chance against a sober giraffe.

    • david7134

If you can see a moose, you are close to death. That is one of the most dangerous of animals.

As to cock fighting, it is actually fun. I don’t like dog fighting, but some do. The fact is that we would be better off leaving others alone as a law that see right is frequently used for other purposes.

  • Ashly

I look at these comments and I can see that only about 1 in 10 people ‘get it’.

    • mondobeyondo

Making progress. Perhaps when 3 or 4 out of 10 people “get it”, something good will happen.

    • Really?

What is ‘it’ exactly? 25ish people posted before you, at least half of them expanded on or gave more examples of what the article was about.

Or do the Jesus people get it?
Or are you not so good at math?
Or was it Gary who was right all along?

So I’ll ask again, what is ‘it’?

Being the only person who “gets it”, why not elaborate and enlighten the rest of us mere mortals of significantly lesser intellect……….(LOL)

  • Jason S

You are right gary2. If it is ridiculous to be concerned that there is a law forbidding defacing milk cartons. It is even more ridiculous that some lawmaker took the time to draft the law and that the rest of them voted it in. What a waste of taxpayer money. They should be more concerned with protecting our freedoms then trying to catch the notorious milk carton defacers of the world! Thank you for proving the point of the article valid.

  • Godson of John T. Chance

Now ya’ll went & did it. I am SOOOOO tempted to break everyone of these so-called laws.

      Godson of John T. Chance,

    • Eagle

(lol) Your lifetime isn’t long enough to break all of the “so-called laws”.
Remember,in one town in Minnesota, it’s illegal
to eat speghetti through a straw. Surely you don’t entend to break that one.

  • JJ

I Think A-LOT of you are missing the point here. This is NOT about GOD and this is NOT about REPUBLICANS or DEMOCRATS. This is about a government who wants you to stop thinking for yourself and who wants to make you feel like you are in constant danger in order to pass more laws to control you. Unless the people of this country start thinking for themselves and Exercising thier freedoms you can kiss Whats left of the “FREEDOM” we do have good bye. So get out there and do your part and dont ever belive that one person (you) can not change or make a difference in this country. We can do this. Good luck and GOD bless.

Agreed in some respects. But the main point is people don’t want to think for themselves, they want to be controlled by big brother government, they want their government transfer payments and handouts, they want to be strip-searched at airports, they want to be groped at every turn, they want cops firing tasers at teenage girls, and handcuffing five year olds, they want the FBI setting up fake terror plots everywhere. If they didn’t want these things, then the republican and democrat wings of the war party would have been out of business a long time ago……………

  • Ten years ago when I started waking up, I bought books, and printed material so I could alert people to what is happening. I had this crazy idea that people would be shocked into reality like I was. Nope— “Don’t worry be happy”. One of my best friends even said to me “do you really look for this stuff?”

About 13 years ago I read an article where the author said, “Americans are the most lied to people on earth”. That was really hard for me to accept for a while, but, it didn’t take me long to concur. I find the most deceived are the people who believe they are informed, but get their information from MSM. The ones who really argue with you (tinfoil hat crowd and conspiracy nuts) are those who are members of the conservative book club.

I think Ted Turner once said “Americans are the stupidest people”. And one of his buddies also said, about Americans “all they want, is to go to the show and have a coke”.

  • BenjiK

The majority of the these “laws”, especially the 40,000 newest ones, are not so much for our safety or stability but an ever-expanding revenue stream for local, state and federal government. Will you really go to jail for defacing a milk carton or tying one on with a Moose? Probably not, unless you pay the fine, of course. That’s not to say there is an ever-increasing incarceration rate for minor crimes. This also ties to the increasing amount of offenses that now carry mandatory probation supervision. Alas, how do states, counties and towns benefit from more people in jail and on probation? MORE FEDERAL MONEY, plain and simple, like everything that doesn’t pass the smell test, FOLLOW THE MONEY.

“They’re trying to build a prison, (for you and me to live in)….”

  • David Gurney

We need one more law:One that requires all Presidential candidates to submit documentation of their eligibility to a controlling legal authority.

You did not say this when bush was president. Why is that? You did not question Bush senior eligibility. Why?

  • Bobby

“Everything is illegal and we are run by control freaks.”

Uh, O.K. I think it’s basically true, with one proviso, NOTHING IS ILLEGAL FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS, ILLEGALY IN THE U.S.

Everything is LEGAL for illegal aliens, but everything is illegal for U.S. Citizens. Glad I cleared that up. LOL. Now if someone would just tell this to the cops, judges, D.C. and the corrupt elite, we might be able to change things.

  • the woman in white at the end makes me sick. who is she to have authority to control what other women do with their bodies? you let them kill unborn babies, but not have sex. hypocrites. then a US senator says its time to criminalize prostitution. a lot of laws and regulations are for the benefit of corporations so they can destroy small businesses

The Perfection of Crony Capitalism: Use Regulation to Destroy Competitors

“…The ever-expanding galaxy of regulations that business owners have to meet is a function of the corruption of government, i.e. corporations lobbying the government to pass laws and regulations (usually written by industry lobbyists to the specifications of their clients) specifically designed to eliminate competition by raising the costs of compliance amd imposing heavy fines via enforcement….”

Well there is one upside to this the jack holes that wrote these laws were to busy with them to screw up other important laws. I can just hear them now ” let them concentrate on those dumb laws so they will keep out of our hair”

  • Trei

I think I broke like 5 laws just reading this…. Ridiculous. I am visiting LA and today I saw Sherriffs and Police officers violate at least 5 Constitutional Rights (SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND) of over a dozen individuals throughout the day…. Where are the Authorities to arrest these officers for breaking these laws and breaking their oaths of office?????????

  • crazycanuck

Strange laws definite sign of aliens among us.

  • Mark T.

Notice in the Stossel piece during the segment on filming cops. The cops that seem to have a problem with it are the young ones. The only one that didn’t mind seemed near retirement age. Is it the culture from which new cops come is aiding this perversion?

  • ken

Im sorry, but am I the only that sees the real problem with some of these laws. Like a State Government was so alarmed but the amount of red necked hicks feeding moose drinks that they HAD to pass a law to prevent people from doing something that twenty years ago would have been thought of as just plain stupid. Or the point that the Government had to step in to stop kids from setting up lemonade stands so close to the road way that were getting hit by cars?
Perhpas if some people would turn back the clock the start taking responsibility for their own actions ten perhaps the Government would not have to pass some of these laws.

  • david7134

Our city, Shreveport, LA, is considering making it illegal to wear pajamas. One of the politicians was in Walmart and saw someone with pajamas on and his sex hanging out. So, in the way our politicians think, it is necessary to pass a law to prevent pajamas. Now we already have a number of laws for indecent exposure and anyone who goes to Walmart should be prepared to see gross people (generally massively obese), but we need more laws.

But my main concern is why does our government tell us if we can or can’t take medications or drugs as we see fit. As a physician, I am increasingly aware that I am just an instrument of the government, an agent, to modulate the free use of drugs. If I give you too much, I go to jail. If you ask for pain relief, you go to jail. This might be over simplification, but it is true. In the 70’s if some one had pain secondary to surgery, you gave them a large quantity of narcotics so that they would not hurt and would recover well. Now, you can only give a small amount. That amount fluctuates depending on the mood of our political handlers. This shows that it is not only the politicians that we must fear, but the little bureaucrats as well.

Thus, the only thing we can do is to go along and expect worse or understand that elections are not working and other measures are necessary.

  • david7134

Nick, I just noted your comment. You see, we are not free. That is the biggest fraud in the history of the world. Our freedom essentially stopped in 1860. We need to go back to 1860. On terror, if you want to eliminate 90% of it, then regulate Islam.

  • InArizona

I believe in Kentucky, it is still illegal for single men to own sheep! Of course, one has to wonder why they felt the need to pass this law… not!

Too many laws and no more ignorance of the law as defense. Of course I am twice-convicted of class c misdemeanors for not having bought a dog license when I moved and not having the rabies vaccine certificate readily available (it was in boxes on a moving truck, headed from Alaska to Arizona).

Where I came from it was a civil fine for not having bought a dog license but in Pima County it is a criminal one… whew! I am sure glad they caught me, I hear not licensing your dog ASAP is a gateway crime.. it leads to other crimes like… murder and rape.. I am sure glad they were able to rehabilitate me and set me on the straight and narrow!

  • InArizona

…And since I grew up in a small village in Alaska, I figured I should address drinking with moose. Yes it is true, we are very bored and lonely in the village, and getting a moose drunk can be entertaining and fun and if you get drunk enough, you actually enjoy the company of the moose! Hell, after a few, your beer goggles might be such that she is looking pretty sweet! You know a 2 at 10:00, becomes a 10 at 2:00!

But moose get drunk on their own. Moose riffle through human trash and dumps and love fruit… yep even rotten fruit, which can contain alcohol due to fermentation.

Even stupider than the law not allowing moose to drink, is the law that prevents people from drinking. Many villages in Alaska are dry (no booze allowed at all) or damp (no booze is allowed to be sold, but you can bring in a limited amount for personal use).

They are always saving us from ourselves, I gotta go find some tequila.. I hear moose love margaritas!

  • Kevin

I have one for you that will take the cake. Delaware last week enacted rules for physicians dispensing some narcotics 15 mg and stronger. The physicians must randomly select several patients every month to come into their office and submit to a urine test and pill count. The patient has 2 hours from the time of notification to arrival in the physicians office. If the patient does not arrive in the time frame they must be dropped from receiving this medication in the future. That prevents the patient from going to another physician to obtain their medication in the future.

The Legislature apparently believes that people prescribed these drugs do not have medical problems that might inhibit travel on such short notice not even thinking about things like a vacation or visiting an ill relative. The Legislature just sees Drugs and Crime. If you take these drugs it’s not for cronic pain but to feed the illegal market and you prove otherwise. You have cancer? Get to the office NOW for testing. Oh can’t drive because of the meds your on? Well arrive late or not at all and that issue will be fixed.

How damn heavy handed can they possibly get to balance the “War On Drugs” on the backs of very ill people?

“Then they could charge you an air tax” http://www.naturalnews.com – sorry it already happened Co2 Carbon Dioxide (Global Warming gas) is the air you breath out and the air plants/trees breath in!

  • Prior to the 1930s there was the presumption of liberty; no law could go beyond what was necessary to remedy the percieved harm, tailored for minimal intrusion on liberties. Absent harm, there could be no law. In the 1930s, the Supreme Court replaced the presumption of liberty with the presumption of constitutionality; most laws would be presumed constitutional, beyond review by the courts. This changed our form of government and we lost our rights, allowing government to pass numerous unnecessary laws that were a plague on the people.

Ok, Income tax is based on INCOME, not wealth. So a wealthy person pays no INCOME tax if they do not earn INCOME.

The plebs here (no offense) do not understand how to be rich, so they think raising INCOME tax on the wealthy will help.

A flat tax will tax those that consume, since the rich consume in levels you cannot imagine, they would pay more taxes than a person of limited wealth.

Example: A boat owned by average guy costs 250$ to fill with gas. Average guy pays 25$ on a 10% flat tax. Rich guy fills his boat, costs $100,000 in gas he pays $10,000 in tax at the same 10%, yes he’s pissed but that’s how a flat tax works.
I live on an island, and many of the bigger boats cost that much or more to fill…

Income is considered cash earned that can’t be written off to expenses. Rich guy has a fleet of accountants that trim his income to ensure he pays the barest minimum in INCOME tax.

The government allows a rich guy to write off all of his gas (90%) and $750 per month in car payment. As long as his business pays. So Rich guy can reduce his INCOME by of setting his expenses (to a degree) where average guy has no fleet of accountants, no business to offset his costs.

The GOVERNMENT would like you to believe that raising the INCOME TAX on the rich would do something because YOU see it as a penalty on the wealthy, who sit there laughing at you because they know it means less than nothing to them. Raising taxes on the rich is an attempt to appease you.

Introduce a flat tax, 10% on all transactions. The rich will scream unfair, the debt will ebb away and YOU will be able to keep an additional 40-60% on your hard earned income.

    • Bob Marshall

I agree. I would like to see a flat tax based on income.

  • Anyone ever seen the movie “The Matrix”? The government wants the population to be “batteries” in a machine, fueling their megalomaniacal greed of wealth and power. They are dangling a carrot (this so-called american dream) in front of us, and we are all scurrying to keep up. If you want to buck the system, quit your job, stop dumping your money back into the system. The whole economy is like a game, except the game is really just a change machine. You feed it a dollar and it only gives you 3 quarters back. You work 3 months out of the year to pay your taxes to the government, and the rest of it to pay for the things you are made to believe you need. THAT is the sad truth.

#10 In the state of Alabama, bear wrestling is completely illegal.

#11 In Fairbanks, Alaska it is illegal to give alcoholic beverages to a moose.

I totally agree with the state on these two fronts. Animal acts should be illegal, especially fighting an animal. A bear can kill a man, in this case, the bear can barely defend itself.

It should always be illegal to give animals alcohol! Moose especially. Moose are lumbering animals, but they can and have killed people.

    • color-freak1

there is no reason to make these things illegal though, most people have enough common sense not to do these things. If they get hurt wrestling a bear then that is there fault.

The greatest illegal and the one that gives me the most problem is basically, to summarize a huge range of specific examples, it is illegal to run a business of any type, any where without letting some authoritarian elitist know all of your specifics. The worst thing is, I am sure that at least 80 to 90 percent of Americans really believed the demonic Bush administration under former president George W Bush, when they pointed their crooked finger at Iraq right after 9/11. Worse, they are so gullible they’d believe it if you told them that jet fuel burns at an average temperature of 5,000 degrees, Fahrenheit, and that once a single floor goes, the entire highrise building is going down, all the way to it’s bare foundation, no questions asked. It’s no wonder there seem to even be people who would embrace with open arms a new Federal law that would ban even the clothes on peoples’ backs, make people check everything; even the very clothes they are wearing, and require all air travel passengers to fly totally naked.

I have not read all these comments, but the truth is the law today is written so our state and local police can take money from the people and it be legal its that simple if you don’t pay your find for whichever law you broke the state can take all types of freedom from you. right to hunt, drive, fish. its just the way it is at least in TN. but from what I am reading this is nation wide. best way to survive in the USA is to go to work pay your taxes and pray the local government does not need more money for the buget cause that’s when they look for people breaking these laws no matter how petty the viaolation I have been put trough the ringer and if someone with a voice does not sto this theres no telling what this coutry will like in twenty years
