The lingering, haunting, and terrifying possibility that a catastrophic nuclear conflict could break out and destroy much of human civilization is not something that most people like to think about. I understand that. I also understand that most westerners have become numb to the seemingly endless war between Russia and Ukraine. But I feel compelled to write about this anyway, because western leaders are making incredibly foolish decisions that are pushing us to the brink of a nuclear showdown with the Russians.
The UK and Germany are mass producing vast numbers of missiles and drones that are being used by the Ukrainians to conduct long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory.
The Russians have publicly stated that this makes the British and the Germans direct parties to the war.
Last night, the Ukrainians unleashed their largest drone attack of the war on Moscow and other Russian cities…
Ukraine carried out its largest ever drone attack on the Russian capital and the surrounding area as voting in parliamentary elections entered the final day.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Sunday that more than 1,900 drones, eight guided aerial bombs, eight cruise missiles and four rockets were shot down overnight. That tally makes the attack Ukraine’s largest ever, although Kyiv did not confirm the exact number of drones and projectiles it fired.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was very proud of the damage that was done by this massive barrage…
Our long-range responses had a very significant impact in the Moscow region last night. One of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and the aggressor’s logistics facility were hit. These are billions of dollars that sustain the war machine. The systems used included FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, Palianytsia, Vendetta, Liutyi, Bars, Flamingo, Sichen, and Pelican.
One of the targets that was successfully hit was the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya.
We are being told that it has “an annual processing capacity of approximately 11 million metric tons of crude oil”…
The Moscow Oil Refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft, ranks among Russia’s most critical refining assets, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 11 million metric tons of crude oil.
The facility provides approximately 40 percent of the fuel supply for the capital city and accounts for roughly 70 percent of all gasoline and aviation kerosene consumed across the wider Moscow region.
Disruption to the refinery’s operational capacity poses significant logistical challenges for metropolitan transport networks and commercial aviation hubs surrounding the capital.
This is going to make the global energy crisis even worse, but that is not what really matters.
What really matters is that this brings us even closer to nuclear war.
For a moment, I would like for you to imagine how you would feel if missiles and drones were hitting U.S. cities night after night.
The attacks on 9/11 made us so angry that we literally invaded two Middle East nations.
So what would the mood of the American people be if our cities were getting bombarded for months?
Needless to say, millions of people in this country would want us to nuke whoever was attacking us.
It shouldn’t surprise us that this is exactly how a significant portion of the Russian population feels at this moment.
In fact, there is so much public pressure to take action that Russian President Vladimir Putin is apparently considering the option of using tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine…
A growing number of Russian officials believe Vladimir Putin could eventually use tactical nuclear weapons as a last resort in the country’s war with Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.
Speculations have risen after negotiations for a peace deal reached a stalemate, along with CIA Director John Ratcliffe making a rare visit to Moscow for talks with his Russian counterparts.
While Washington has not disclosed the purpose of his visit, sources say Ratcliffe warned Russia against escalating the war with neighboring European countries, including those in the Baltics.
The unnamed Kremlin officials also claimed conventional ballistic missiles are being considered to strike the center of Kyiv along with critical infrastructure in neighboring cities.
I don’t think that the use of tactical nuclear weapons is imminent.
But if the Ukrainians keep intensifying their long-range attacks, it is just a matter of time before Russian patience runs out.
Most Americans don’t realize this, but if the Russians use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine, we could be expected to respond by using tactical nuclear weapons in return.
There is no guarantee that President Trump would actually pull the trigger, but the amount of pressure on him to do so from our European allies would be immense.
Of course once both sides use tactical nukes, it is likely that the Russians would order an all-out nuclear strike on the continental United States very quickly thereafter.
The Russians have also threatened to directly attack several of our NATO allies because they are manufacturing long-range missiles and drones for Ukraine.
There have already been rumors of “hybrid attacks” by the Russians, and apparently the French are quietly striking back…
A French military source told Le Monde that France is already carrying out undisclosed conventional military responses to Russian hybrid attacks. Asked whether Paris could retaliate militarily without making it public, the source replied: “That is already happening.”
Both sides are playing such a dangerous game.
I really wish that they would stop.
A single wrong move could set off a chain of events from which we would never recover.
Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ominously declared that a war between Russia and our allies in Europe would be “very short”…
“Russia has repeatedly said that we are not going to attack Western countries and have no interest in doing so,” he said in comments made at the International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg on Wednesday.
“But if Europe, which speaks regularly about preparing for war against Russia, attacks the Russian Federation, then this will be a completely different war, and it will be very short.
In all of my years of writing, we have never been closer to nuclear war with Russia than we are right now.
Of course most people in the western world are not thinking about this at all.
Most of the population just continues to party as if the good times will never end.
Unfortunately for them, by the time they realize what has happened there will be no way to turn back the clock.
